Just so you guys know I'm not dead, and so Tony gets off my case, some WIP pics to share. I should be back to semi regular updates as I turned in my very last assignment for school today. I will graduate in August with my Bachelors in Computer Tech and my 3rd Associates in Applied Science (along with Comp Tech and Business Mgmt).
The Land Raider Achilles was really quite easy to put together, fit nicely, very little fuss. And yes, Sgt Kronos is ridin shotgun, but more on that later.
The Caestus Ram wasn't so much fun to do. Gap filling like mad, cutting off non-directional flashing. Ugh. Also weights about a friggin ton. Which reminds me, has anyone had problems with getting a flying stand to hold the flyer? I tried plastic glue and super glue, both snapped like a twig! I ended up using a 2 part resin apoxie called "Plastic Fusion" which worked like a champ, but made me a bit high in the process. The interior is painted, the rest isnt.
As mentioned earlier, Kronos is riding along, but the tank is going to be Dark Angels Green. "Has Whale lost it totally?" I hear you ask. No friends, I have however decided to add the Codex marine SCs to my DA. This started because I am doing a tournament on the 24th that I am using the Codex Marines book for, because there are no SCs allowed, so no reason to play DA. There are some cool rules for the HQ choices, hopeful more on that in a week or so. So what say ye? Including other SCs in my DA army (using the correct book, obviously) good, or should I start a 3rd SM army (not counting GK)?
C & C always welcome

Glad to see some progress! I doubt I'll be getting off your case anytime soon though I love the LR! I want one so bad for the Shields. That ram on the other hand just looks like its a pain in the ass to deal with, better you than me.
As for the question about starting a new army or using the SCs in the DAs, I would say use them in the Da army. Though it would be cool to see you do a homebrew chapter and use all the SCs you want. I guess that really doesn't answer anything Seeing them in DA colors would be pretty amazing though. Good luck with that choice.

Not on the ram, but I did get a techmarine and a scout with a sniper rifle. Before the 24th I have to at the least assemble 3 more snipers, some servitors (5 maybe?), and 3-5 Thunderhamer/Stormshield Terminators. Still waiting to get the latter 2 groups, which should be here tomorrow. If I get everything assembled, I want to work on my HQ, which will be either a Chaplain or Libby in Terminator armor, but with a Dark Eldar Phantasm Grenade launcher. Automatically Appended Next Post: So no photos from me yet, but I just found this pic on reddit of a painting area for minis, and am jelly

Just out of curiosity, what does a chappy bring to the table? I'm fairly farmiliar with libbys but I've never fielded a chaplain.

The give you reroll hits on the charge. I think they make them fearless as well (used to deathwing that are fearless anyways). I'm leaning to the Libby in terminator armor and a storm shield. That would maximize tarpitting in the middle. Basic strategy is for me to tie things up and get beat down while my partners DE shoot the crap outta them. I think the null zone form the libby would be tough.
Anyways, heres a few pics of the tech marine. I'm really happy with him. He does have the BA pad and pistol. I'm like 75% sure I'm going to be repainting my BA to DA. Shouldnt be to bad, the Death Company and Sang Guard will remain largely the same, and those are a large part of my BA. I'm also thinking of doing my GK in DA colors. Thought?
I got my packages today. The termis are fine, like normal, but the Tech marine is the new finecast one. The 4 servitors are great, other than the heavy bolters. The tech marine is gak, the servo arms are gak, and theres a giant bubble on the arm and axe making it also unusable. Gunna call that one in on Friday. Of the 6 sprues, 3 were unacceptable. My current view on finecast, unimpressed, even let down.

Depends on what approach you're going with - are you doing them as all part of one allied Crusade - in which case using a campaign marking across them all may unify them better or you writing fluff up for them as a specialist sort of unit?
Basically - if you're treating them as a specialist sort of unit (which I would not recommend for original chapters like DA, BA etc. with their own established background - successors vary more tbh) the it works. Otherwise you might want to consider a campaign marking or shared shoulder pad design or something.

The allied/campaign marking idea is pretty mint! Almost like the deathwatch shoulder pads but obviously something or your own design.

Well I am for sure not repainting the DA, way to committed to them at this point, but I was planning on just leaving the BA iconography (and Ultramarine, etc) so that I can share land raiders, rhinos, assault marines, drop pods, etc, etc from one to the other. Specialist units like Sang Guard would get an eye color change (to red from green) and some pads repainted, but as they are already together, not much else would change. In the future for such units I would make them more DA-ish. I'm more or less ignoring the fluff, because I am really bad at writing my own, and DAs is pretty weak to begin with. This is a move to A) Save money, B) Become more competative while keeping the chapter I like the most, and C) Get cool new toys I cant normally use. I figure I'll have people bitching about me running a DoA list in DA colors, but I'm pretty sick of getting my butt kicked with my DA that are actually DA.

Nice job on the tech WM... Don't worry about going off-codex. At Adepticon last year I played both BA and SW armies and NONE of them were actually painted the way they were supposed to be. Everyone does it for the same reasons you state. If GW was better at making balanced codecii... we wouldn't see as much of it.

As long as we have codex creep we will have unbalanced codecii though, that is just the nature of how most games work from my viewpoint.

Its official, I found my compressor and airbrush today, and started re-priming and base coated my Red Space Marines to Green Space Marines. Man it makes the process faster with the AB. I'm planning on getting a tank, regulator, and better brush, but now I don't need a new compressor. I also got a bunch of stuff made for a tourny next weekend, but no paint yet. Built 6 Thunderhammer Termis, 3 1/2 Servitors, and a Rifleman Dread, using the Ven Dread kit and the Turret thing from the defense line kit.

Hmm, that's a fair to middling sized collection of paints that fine chap has assembled. But where's all the grey stuff and the shiny bits? Surely that's FAR more important than a bit of colouring in?

I was hoping to get a package with some cool converted nids, but have yet to see one...
I do now have about 4000 points of SM basecoated, supplied by an airbrush. I enjoyed the brush so much I got a better one, and now require a better compressor. Doh!

Ya. AB's are pretty dirty addictive aren't they? I just ordered an Iwata eclipse side-cup... so that means 4 AB's in 1 year lol :S
Beware!
I had kept all the resin mold feed blocks from my FW stuff with the exact same intention as how you used yours, as concrete elements or scenery, I am glad to see it enacted and that it works!

It's really effective at looking like a concrete block isnt it lol?
Speaking of which, can you put up a size comparison shot of the Caestus and some other SM stuff? I am curious how big that thing really is...
Also, considering how heavy Resin is compared to plastic, (maybe not 1:1, but FW is much thicker casted than GW sprue) I am really, really surprised to see that thing standing up on a regular flying stand lol... if it weighs as much as the Crassus, which I would imagine it does... wow...

I'll get ya some pics in the morrow, battery is dead, but from the point where the vents are to the front doors is about the size of a land raider. For the flying stand, the clear stem is glued using a product called Plastic Fusion, a 2 part resin apoxie (spelling?)
http://www.supergluecorp.com/pacer-industrial/special-plastic-bonders/plastic-fusion
Worth adding to your armory, especially if your working with lots of FW items or moving parts that absolutely must not come apart. Its a product heavily used by action figure customization, my other nerd hobby.

So that puts it at about 12" long and 5-6 high at the tallest? That thing is BIG then! I found the Crassus small compared to what I thought it would be, but that thing is way bigger, I was picturing something about LR sized more or less
Will keep that glue in mind if I run into a situation like this one lol!

About 9" long, 10" wide, and 5" tall. There is not as much as you'd think in the back, more like a big land speeder than a small thunderhawk.
