Oh God please lock this thread.
I don't like the previous codex. I grew up with this current codex, and I don't want to play a Legion. The previous codex had you conform to the tenets of a Legion or suffer for it. This codex has more freedom in list building, which means more freedom for story telling.
I'd rather have codex Rainbow Friends than codex Legions of Failure.

Actually, you were not punished for feilding a non legion force. The main rules were for the BlackLegion, which as you know, is the "Uses everything and is balanced around everything" army, with deviations in the back. You wouldn't have to play a legion if you didn't want to.

I would rather avoid a legion book. That would just add to the issue of there being to many dexs out there. It would be easier to just have one book with all the options.
They could easily just go back to the 3.5 book with a few nerfs to make things balanced and I think everyone would be happy and would only be one book to cover all the basis.
Here is all the units so you can do a renegade/traitor list then at the end here are some special rules you can follow to get a few bonuses while taking a few other things away.
Everyone wins.

I think one of the flaws of the current book is that there is no elite unit of any kind (no chaos lord retinue or elite cult units). The current book is great for a cookie cutter spam build but anything slightly different from this is hard to do.
A legion dex would be nice but what about people who don't want to play a specialised legion force but at the same time would want something more? I personally think when 5th Editon CSM is released, there should be some extra stuff to allow people to play a specialised army.
Realistically, if the current book allowed players to upgrade any unit to a proper god dedicated unit (rather then use a stupid icon), then we wouldn't be having this thread. A PDF from GW with additional/modified rules would fix a lot of the issues in my opinion

I just think it's unfair for GW to pull what they did after Chaos players had dedicated armies to a certain God.
Personally I would still use a renegade force, but it would be nice to have some options to have some dedicated troops so it doesn't feel too much like a spiky SM army

I still play my Word Bearers and do so as close to the fluff of that army as possible. However, the loss of real Daemons hurt me more than most.

My main fear is that if a Legions book came out, it would end up like the pre-PDF Blood Angles, the Space Wolves before that, and the current Dark Angels and the next time it would see an update would be when I hit retirement age.

I think this codex must be the most bemoaned loss in the history of 40k.
Just use the loyalist codexes GW doesn't care about you or me.
Legions codex is a pipe dream.

Yeah Shaman that's what I'm saying haha
The newest edition of both codices are eerily similar, while the previous edition of both couldn't be more opposite

I think a new codex, following the 3.5 template, minus the broken combos (the whole dex wasn't overpowered, just certain combos usually associated with the daemonic abilities like dreadaxe + daemonic stature = a character that ignores both armours saves and invulnerable armour saves).
When you look at the 3.5 dex, the only special thing about it was the ability to mark and "cultify" any unit. That could have easily been done in the current book but Gav Thorpe appears to be a fan of simplistic 3rd edition mechanics and icons
