Am I? Assuming heavy bolter sponsons on all the vendettas, that comes out to 1320 points. Still plenty left to get your required HQ and troops, and you've got a killer list.

Certainly you do, but I guess I'm argueing semantics. That isn't the core of an army, that's a specific play style. No matter what you do with the Troops, HQ or Elites slots, the army will always play the same.

It's the "body" of the army, the core that never changes, that does indeed, stay the same.
At this point I'm just pointing out how ridiculously vague many of the terms that players use are. Things like "core" or "play style" or "fluffy."

Manticore is better because it is more reliable not having to roll to see if it fires, can get 1-3 shots per turn and has 4 shots instead of one.
Deathstrikes sound fun for apocalypse where they get ignored for bigger things like titans and everything is packed sort of tight and your potentially huge radius can do a lot of damage.

Manticore all the way. S10 AP4 means that anything with less armor than SM is toast, and even if they have a 3+ or 2+ save, it only takes one failure to insta-gib them, if they don't have Eternal Warrior of course. But if you really must run a Deathstrike, make sure your stratagies never revolve around it. Instead I'd use it as a diversion, drawing fire away from other more important units.

IMHO manticores are probably more likely to win you games, that said the Deathstrike if/when it fires is the most ROFLM inducing unit put in the game since someone came up with the concept of fielding the emperor himself.
Manticores are just another artillery piece that wil make you chuckle slightly every time you roll a 5-6 for the warhead number
Deathstrikes are there purely for the occasional gaks n' giggles game and will cause massive board shaking belly laughs when you wipe out 7/8ths of your opponents army with one shot. seriously, shortest game i have ever played, deathstrike fired turn 2 and killed my opponents entire army.... he hasnt let me field one since Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yes and bassies are awesome too, the original and still the best of all the artillery pieces.

Darkhound got to shoot his ICBM.
Things to note:
-Don't foget about the minimum range, lol.
-It kills stuff, but it took it a while to warm up.
-Go for the Manti for getting shots in earlier.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Yeah, I'll elaborate on Sanctjud's appraisal. The weapon is only really effective against enemies who have a fire base, as that will both ensure it has something to shoot at if it doesn't fire until later. In my game against Sanct's Bikers, I had to put the hurt on all of them, which left no particularly juicy targets. When it did fire, it scattered 9 inches. Despite all of that, its blast radius still hit and kill everything I'd aimed it at. So it is a great way to clear backfield fire-bases and objective holders. I'd take it over a Manticore, but not over a Colossus.

Manticore all the way. Deathstrike is real fun though but too many ifs to fire it and you can only do it once. I made a Deathstrike with my kit and don't regret it; lots of fun. I'm not that experienced but Manticore is a serious threat and a cheap nasty piece.
