That's great. I like the modeling you've done, I'm very interested to see what you're doing to the cannon room/drivers compartment. The paint looks good too. The floor looks kinda worn but not too much. It looks good.

Great work so far, I enjoy following the progress of this tank. It's alway nice to see if a model is treated with such an eye for details.
I like the way you did your extra side armour, reminded me of the way they did it on Panzer IV's in WW2.
Shame it isn't a Predator, This kind of extra armour could make the Predator turret look rather cool, I think.
Are you going to try and cover up the magnetic mounts on the sides with greenstuff or will they stay this way and will be integrated into looking like a regular part of the vehicle?

I pretty much got my inspiration for the mounting and construction for the armor from those tanks. I may just add a couple more supports to it too. I have a huge affinity for predator tanks and I might just do that to one just for the hell of it. I was planning on trying my hand at painting marines in a realistic desert scheme and that armor design coupled with a predator kit would indeed be an awesome sight.

I'm liking this so far. I would have to agree that I enjoy how you modled the side armor, and also that you magnitized it for easy removal.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

(Update 4) AND 5!!
I have started the paintwork of the vindicator. I decided to alter the way I'm painting the vines compared to what I did on the land raider and to start them first as it's the most time consuming part and all that will be left is all the highlights and little things. They still look very good in my opinion, but seem to flow a little better as well(if that makes sense). I base coated the tank through an airbrush as I ran out of P3 black primer and my LHS was closed so I couldn't pick some up. The current process for painting the vines is also quicker as there are far less to do overall. There aren't as many pics this time as there really isn't too much to show. As always enjoy and watch for more updates as I will be trying to finish this tank in about 3 days time. Next update should be some time tomorrow.
BTW yes I realize redemption is miss spelled. I will fix it.
This pic pretty much shows the finished green detailing. I will probably touch up anything that really needs it. Next is on to the finishing touches and little details since most the tank is black.

(Update 6, Finishing pictures to be posted tomorrow)
Ok then. I know I said I'd update yesterday and the day before that, but I got busy and ahead of myself and all I have to show for it is, well, A DARN NEAR FINISHED VINDICATOR!!!! The pictures were kinda rushed so I could show Alaster what the final details were coming out like. Final pictures will show all options on and off the vindicator and with a better setting than a baby blue background lol. I took a picture of the campaign markings applied to the left(if looking from the back) side of the tank showing an alliance between the DA and BA. Don't even give me fluff guff as it was a commission request so they could transfer between codexes with less, HEY MAN thats not fluffy BS, but other than that this project will be labeled as finished tomorrow. The mud is still drying and will need a slight dry brushing after it has dried, but besides that enjoy what I have to offer to you guys now and tell me what you think.

For how dirty it is on the bottom i think the mud ought to spread up the sides more. That being said i really like the free handing and i would hate to see it covered up more.
Maybe you could do a light dusty dry brush up the side or tone done the mud. The transition between mud and clean is a little to abrupt is all.

The mud in the photo is actually still wet. I plan on dry brushing up the sides more to blend it in. I didn't go up the sides with the mud any further because of the exact reason you stated in not wanting to cover up too much more of the detail.

I'm glad you like the end result of the project Alaster. Any time I'm painting for someone that isn't local I try my best to do it right the first time because a goof up or a redo would be a pain in both parties arses between all the time and shipping to correct it.
Great work and pictures ninja. I'm not a fan of the mud or vines but you definitely have lots of skill. Do you use your airbrush for the vines or do those by hand?
The vines are entirely hand painted. They don't take too long either. about three strokes gets one swirl done. Then one good coat of thinned paint with flow aid added gets the color pretty solid. Highlights are then just two steps above that. The vines are what took most the time to do this project. The mud was messy and fast and everything else is pretty trivial for me to do.
love the paintjob , the vines , please tell me how you highlight the black so nicely...
The black is highlighted with one color. Adeptus battlegrey. I hate painting really bright highlights on black like codex grey or heaven forbid fortress grey. I simple make sure the paint is about 2:1 paint and thinner then use the edge of the brush and just drag it along the edge with minimal pressure. I have been using a wet palette extensively now when I paint anything. Helps partialy thin the paint while keeping it wet.
That's an incredible model. Thank you for sharing your work, and I'm jealous of both your skill and Alaster's being able to afford it. =-)
I will admit I am no golden deamon competitor. I might try to paint that seriously later, but for now I just like to make sure my models paint jobs are clean, smooth and I get the paint where it needs to go. It has taken some time for me. I've never sat and really "Painted" the way I've always wanted so its taken about 4 years of actually seriously painting to get me here. And as Alaster noted I am pretty reasonable about what I charge. I don't normally disclose things like that openly , but anyone can get a quote on a project from me simply by PMing me their interests.
Not a fan of the grime on it, but otherwise its great!
Surprisingly there are A TON of modelers that don't like painting anything weathered. Even the slightest amount. The actual term is called "Chasing" the paint job. Don't know why. I have mixed feelings myself on it. Some models I'm like "I'm gonna cover the **** outta that thing with mud rust and gore" and others I'm like "One chip and that would look like crap" lol.

I think there ought to be a little weathering on the top of the back ramp because thats where it would be hitting the ground when deployed.

Your scratching skills are amazing. How do you end up getting such nice angles with the plasticard?
The paint scheme is not particularly what I like with space marines, but it's well done, and the removable options are great.

I thought about it, but figuring as the ramp would only be open between battles for maintenance and reloading i didn't want to cover too much of the tank with mud.

I use the score and break method with plasticard. I also use a metal ruler to guide my blade so the lines are as straight as my skill with plasticard permits. Also everything was made via template and precisely measured before cutting anything out. Although in the end some things had to be moved because lets face it, GW or frankly any plastic injection kits are never perfectly cast. A lot of people also aren't to the liking of the paint scheme, but this was a commission after all and I was trying my best to match a tank I painted over two years ago with paints and inks that are no longer made.
