They are pretty damned close, i mix both up all the time and usually the other people understand anyways... but thats generalizing to common terms... mini painting may be a little specialized... although - peinture des figurines and pinte de estatuillas... maybe not lol

OoieGoie wrote:i watched the preview and it looks like she uses oil paints. It would explain the glass (?) palatt she uses (can scrape off the dry paint with a scraper blade). If so, not too good for me. I use acrylics.

It aslo seems like oils because she has very little paint on the glass and mixes colours as she go's. Acrylic dries way too quick to do this.

Wouldnt mind watching it though.

Go to a hobby shop and you can find extenders that delay the drying time of acrylics considerably (10 - 20 minutes compared to one).

It's called wet-on-wet painting, and can lead to absolutely flawless blending and gradients, but takes a lot of practice and a good understanding of colour to use effectively. I'd recommend it for better quality paints like Vallejo, over GW paints.

yeeeeeeah....

You know she's talented, right? Attractive too, but that's a plus, not a selling feature.

Now that's HOT. I love mini-porn. If I could paint like that I'd make a video too. Although, granted, my chest is considerably less attractive than hers.

"Pinte de estatuillas" sounds more like Portuguese LOL But nice try! It would be "Pintado de miniaturas" or "Pintado de figuras" (if you meant "miniature painting/figure-figurine painting".

There are a lot of similar expresions, but that happens with English too. Similar = similar, expresions = expresiones But grammar and such makes it more difficult to learn. You can imagine what they are talking about, but you might not understand if it's a negation, an affirmation, a question... It's like a bad automatic translation, it's harder to understand than the other language xD

Someday it will be translated... someday... *shakes fist*

Going by the quality of cmon's painting book I may well have to get this.

Provided someone can assure me that half way through the vid it doesn't go...'Now pick up your airbrush and apply a glaze ove..." I don't own an expensive airbrush and am often disillusioned by how many advanced painting guides rely on them.

Not really, "estatuilla" exists, but it's just not apllied to minis. It's used for small decorative figures.

I prefer the mini mentor series over the Natalya one.

She is an amazing painter but as someone pointed out already her blending and mixing technique is bewildering. Amazing stuff though.

MM tutorials cover many different styles of blending and weathering. Spot on really plus they've got good sculpting tutorials which are very interesting IMO.

Which reminds me, I'm currently watching the new MM speed painting tutorial which is very good. Ideal for those of us who are army painters rather than display peice painters. The standard that is shown is easily achieved without an airbrush and very high indeed.

I think the point was that it didnt need her jugs spilling out on the cover to sell to people serious about becoming better painters... kinda like the hooters version of mini tutorials lol

I'm responding to MDG's comment: "sadly telling reflection on the intended audience."

If MDG is referring to "people serious about becoming better painters" as you put it or people in the wargaming hobby in general when he says 'intended audience' then I don't really know what is telling about a woman's cleavage being put on the cover a painting guide. Compared to most male orientated hobbies the sexualisation of war gaming is trivial. Takes Cars and gadgets for example, don't tell me you've never seen scantily clad pit girls in motorsport or bikini sporting girls posing with dslrs in magazines.

No no bud, nothing in particular to your comment. I agree with you, it doesn't hurt to put her tata's on the cover, it doesn't offend me. Especially when your average comic book has bigger jugs and more nip lol.

Just saying imo she's a good enough painter not to have to go that route, especially considering she's the talent and not a decoration you know? Sex sells though, I suppose in the end more of us red-blooded types are likely to click on the link to check it out right lol!

The problem with it is if I were a single man things like this, gadget mags with girls all over them etc. Don't make you look very good when your courting and you invite here round your place. Geeky wargaming is hard enough to explain to girls without tits on painting guides.

I haven't watched AGProduction's review (yet) but I think it a little odd that one peddler of instructional DVDs is negatively critiquing a similar product. Can't say that I am shocked either, that AGProductions finds Natalya's DVD to be lacking in value. But I suppose I am just a pessimist who assumes the worst of people when money is at stake.

Maybe with the Foam Wars cooling down we can have a new front open up.| Bring on the Paint Wars!

Fair point, DT777.

Again, I haven't watched Natalya, so I can't speak to how good or bad the video is. Just offering a review I found.

@ krong: Sorry! I hope you didn't think I was raging at you because I wasn't. I just quoted your post to give reference to my own posting.

OT:

I just watched the two videos and while I found his "rage" over Natalya's video annoying I think I understand where he is coming from. He disagrees with the video being labeled an instructional video when he feels the instruction is absent from the video all together. Okay, that is a reasonable issue to have.

Now, that being said, I still don't see the point of him making these videos other than to draw attention to his own series (which he brings up in video one numerous times). The stunt seems a cheap and rather transparent grab for new customers. The whole ruse of "I do this to prevent you from making a purchasing mistake" just doesn't fly for me (again I may be a jaded skeptic) but when he uses his own videos as an example of how to do an instructional video correctly my BS sensors immediately go off.

I thought it mildly credible that he took the time to list other instructional DVDs that he'd recommend over Natalya's but it seemed with the exception of one series all were lacking in some way or another (implying that his series is really the only game in town).

If this really was an altruistic move to spare painters from wasting money why pimp his own products? I can't help but feel that a real professional would let word of mouth and other non-biased media sources offer reviews and let customers decide which products to buy on their own.

Anyway, interesting stuff. AGProductions lost some credibility for me but since I don't own a single instructional DVD on painting I don't suppose that matters much.

wow negitive and hard review, but i'll agree, if your reviewing something, dont push your own product. still it makes me wonder how correct he is in his assesment of Nats dvds.

Mmm, I was going to mention it previously but thought it pointless. She has this much talent, she could use more mini photos and less tit room and I would actually well think about buying this instead of being put off and looking for another guide instead. Kind of a slap in the face that one of the most well known and credited female painters takes up so much of their products with a pair of boobs to get the guys buying :(

Edit: I mean jesus, having checked some of her other work there is so much more that could have been in that corner D: It seems from what has been said so far though that this is more of a painting masterclass than an instruction set. I would consider an instruction set as something that started off from basing and highlighting to Nmm and Zenithal lighting, and a masterclass to be improved high end techs and pallettes.

Ifalna, agree with you on the jugs. Sorry on behalf on infantile men everywhere lol

It is most definitely not a starter dvd set. I am not a beginner so I guess I didn't notice really that the prep and materials were a bit quickly glossed over. But it is still interesting watching her work.

Still recommend miniature mentors stuff the best of what I've seen so far.

This was the point I was try to make. She is a very talented painter and I admire her work a great deal. Throwing out a pair of strategically lifted tits in a very unsubtle manner just seems to cheapen the whole thing. As to the argument it is what men want - well, male here, like a pair of breast where appropriate (being married drastically reduces those opportunities ) but if you are going to use breasts to sell me something please make it just a tad more subtle coz I am just not that dumb.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Honestly if you are wanting a good DVD then Swansons is great. All around though trying to learn from a dvd is understatably hard because you don't have the instructor there with youtelling you " hey you need to smooth down that blend even more with more watered down paints", or " hey that is way to bright bring it back a touch". Also being able to hear that you are doing it correctly or incorrectly and how to fix it helps a lot better. If you are still intent on videos I know Mathieu Fontaine is creating his own and he is an understatably amazing teacher.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I'm still not buying it. I mean, I like tits as much as the next guy, but I don't need them in my face when I'm painting.

Ok guys&gals, seriously, enough.

There is only one fething pic with a low-cut neck. You can see more "flesh" just walking in a city.

It's a DVD tutorial with a crapton of footage, all about painting. It only fails with explanations of techniques, there could have been more structurated explanations. Period.

You are overreacting.

Get over it boys from North America and take a cool shower.
Polish girls usually have big breasts and among Fantasy fans it is not unusual to wear Fantasy/medieval inspired cloths (with decolletés for women's cloths). If you are that conservative, then better not go to European Fantasy events and game's fairs (or US football games with cheerleaders for that matter ). BTW, in the video she is wearing standard US cloths: T-shirt and Jeans.
fire4effekt wrote:Watched the film and i hate it. Why? Soft core porn music on a loop.

Well, most of us don't watch softcore porns that much and wouldn't have noticed, thanks for sharing your experience though

Can we now go on discussing the topic?
Thank God that GW has no women writing Codices, or we would have Codex discussions all centered around the fact that the writer has boobs
