I can't remember exactly which ones I had or the order they were in, but mine have pretty much always been themed around Monkey Island, except for 2 or so I think...
Anyways, there were these at least:

This was one of my first Avatars:

I've had this one recently too, including an Xmas version...

All I remember is that I had this one during my Primarch Ranking thread:

Had this one going about 3 months ago or so I think...

I've had some others too which I can't find, I always would've liked to find a good one of Stan or Murray but never did...
I'll probably stick with the Neverhood for a while, then I may move on to something else like Sam and Max. I always like to keep it themed though...

So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. Can't remember my first, likely it was either my yahoo avatar thingy or Stitch.

In the past couple of years I had this one for a while,

Plus its Christmas 2008,

Then I moved on to this one for a short while,

Plus christmas 2009

Went back to,

Then this one, which I think bugged some folks, (not the exact one, but close enough)

Then this one for most of this year, including a Xmas 2010 one, and the dreaded Movember one.

The new one came in last week, as Mass Effect has quickly become my fave game ever on the 360.
True to form I played a femshep, and yes, as my avatar suggests, became very friendly with Liara.

edit - thinking on it, I may have got Lucita and the Drow Harem girl mixed up, might have been Lucita in 2008, but not 100% if I'm honest

Damn, I've had so many over the years. My dakka join date isn't accurate due to my existence on prior servers back in the Russ days. I tend to save over the same file too, so I don't have a whole lot I can display.

My very first one would have been something like this, back in the early 2000s:

Then various Salamander, Skaven, Tyranid, Bretonnian, Eldar and Tomb King ones, depending on my army du jour, or what fluff book I was reading.

For a while I had Alan Rickman in Galaxy Quest. When I came back to dakka with some regularity, I had various Tau images ran through the Obama - izer (gives that Red/Blue/Tan effect like the famous 'Change' poster) with a Tau related slogan underneath, including the Fire Warrior from the cover of Fire Warrior Obama-ized with the caption 'Greater Good,' after that, a scan of one of the battlesuit pictures from IA3 with the caption "Shas'ui".

After I decided the Obama-izer was played out, I had a picture of the CATScan/MRI of my skull that I had prior to getting ear surgery back in September 2010.

My current one is a test scheme for my Fire Warriors I came up wit while mucking around on the B&C army painter. But it's too dull and utilitarian for me, so I'm probably going to switch it up soon.

Holy cow someone noticed! It also had a boyz helmet on it too I actually made that one and then the computer crashed shortly after that happened, so sadly enough, that went to the place where lost files go. But I did have the married one for a very short time, then it turned into Ork or as most people thought, potatoes lol

Seconded.

It also annoys me a bit when people constantly change their avatars to something completely different; some people do it occassionally and then it's suitably different from any others so we know it's them (eg. Kill Krazy), some people change theirs within a common theme (eg. KC, Alpharius, Yakface), but I can find it difficult to keep up with constantly changing avatars personally...

Mine are all Flashman related, so I have either raided the book covers or the one film that was made. I can't find the exact ones I used and I also cropped them to a better size.

My first one...

...and then...

...before lastly...

This final shot is from a re-enactment of The Charge of the Light Brigade (in which Flashman played a reluctant part) at Balaklava on the 150th anniversary.

I try to only change avatars at a major post milestone.

Yeah I'm the same way. I'm only just now starting to actually try to remember people's usernames so if they change avatars I won't be like "hey, who is that?".

My first avatar was a picture of the surface of mars taken by the Opportunity rover.

My current is HAL 9000.
