Well, instead of using a different head, I'd reckon just kinda filing away the horns could give him an insta-less chaos, and otherwise leave him with the rather evil looking armour that would fit right into the forces of good in pre-heresy Imperium

By the way, what did you think of Oath of Moment?

Bad news guys. The processor of my computer just fizzed out, so it'll be at least another few days whilst I get an RMA and access to another computer

Well, it was... Ok.

The story is a bit short for me,
Spoiler:
and I just wished the first Legion Garro went to had been a traitor one (as Malcador hinted at it), the story would have been far more interesting. The introduction with the PDF, the battle descriptions & the details revealed about the Edict of Nikaea are great though. My major concern is Malcador's voice, it sounds really, really silly... Too bad for the 2nd most powerful psyker in the Imperium...

As for the kitbash, I can't wait to see what else you'll be coming up with! Too bad you have computer problems...

@Ghost_Leader_7 and samwellfrm: Thanks guys! Weather permitting, I should have painted pictures up by wednesday or so.

@Limbo: Thanks for the compliment. The legs being straight definitely helps, they are about as tall as an Assault Marine, but the heavy armor and the shape of the legs makes the marines a lot more proportionate and less Gorilla-like. And I LOVE the Iron Warrior kits. They make better MK3 than Forge Worlds

Lord Kaesar II wrote:Well, instead of using a different head, I'd reckon just kinda filing away the horns could give him an insta-less chaos, and otherwise leave him with the rather evil looking armour that would fit right into the forces of good in pre-heresy Imperium

Yeah, that would definitely help. Once the rest of the squad is complete, I'll mess around with the head some more and try to make it less evil. That or just go all out on the chaos and give him a Snidley Whiplash moustache

[quote=Yggdrasil Well, it was... Ok.

Yeah, I felt the same way. It was a cool story with lots of interesting setpieces, and the beginning with Lieutenant Olan was fantastic. I also loved the inner conflict that the characters went through. I just feel like poor voice acting and the adbrupt ending hurt it. It is kind of conspicous how Malcador and all the Ultramarines have apparently horrible nasal congestion.

And yeah, I'm pretty upset about the computer. Hopefully AMD will accept my RMA for it and life will resume. Until then, I should still be able to squeeze updates in here and there.

Sorry about the lack of updates folks, the sudden death of my PC has been a real thorn in my side. Fortunately I have access to a school computer and a goal to work towards:

On March 19th, my FLGS has a 2000pt doubles tournament coming up, so I have teamed up with my friend and his pre-heresy Space Wolves for a Crusading extrrrrrrrrravaganza! I'm still working the kinks out of my list, and I'll have it posted in the proper area soon, but long story short I need to finish Squad 1 and build Squad 2.

I'm still waiting on the rest of my MKIV bitz from Bits and Kits(great site, but being across the pond really hurts shipping times) so in the interest of time and money, Squad 2 will be built in Mk V armor to tie into the force(but I will still retain the MK III sergeant for visual cohesion)

Wish me luck chappies! Pictures of the two squads will be up tomorrow!

*Blows dust off blog* Wow, I have left this by the wayside for faaaaar too long.

Yeah, sorry about that folks, unfortunately shortly after my last post, I broke my wrist, and have been laid up in a cast since then, HOWEVER, I am back! With a new direction and new pics!

First off, I have to apologize for Pre-Heresy purists who may be viewing this thread, my army is NOT strictly Pre-Heresy. If a mod could change the title from "Pre-Heresy Word Bearers" To "Heresy Era Word Bearers", itd be much appreciated. My army is centered around the Battle for Calth, and as such has the new Red scheme and a Chaotic twist.

But enough of that malarchy, PICTURE TIME!

Keep in mind these are all works in progress.

Squad 1!

A few guys who are awaiting basing sand, Greenstuff bottoms and a lick of paint

My test mini that I made from a failed experiment in converting them, this is as close to "Done" as Ive gotten. Looks better IRL

The Chaplain, I'm not happy with him anymore, now that I've read Helsreach, I'll probably finish up the model, convert a new one, and use this guy for stand ins. C'et la vie.

Here is the beginnings of Squad 2, I plan for them to seem a lot less organized than their comrades, and much more....chaotic

Its getting late and my laptops battery is running down, more pictures will be coming tomorrow. Enjoy!

Very nice work. The Chaos Warror legs fit remarkably well.

If you want to change the thread title, just go to your first post and hit edit. You can then alter the title and it will update when you save changes.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

@Samwellfrm: Thanks man! It's good to be back from the dead, and since I challenged someone in my FLGS to see who could finish their 1850 armies first, there will be many more updates to come!

@Flinty: Thanks for the tip. Yeah, the Chaos warrior legs look really good on the marines, except 1) The join between waist and torso is always kind of uneven, though its hard to tell, and 2) You have to GS the gap in the back where the "buttplate" is, sadly, I have not added armor there, so people joke that my Astartes took to the field in their Long Johns :/.

And now...more pics! As always, C&C welcome!

First off, Kor Megron, Chief Apothecary of the Serrated Sun, XVII Legion

An Apothecary without compare, Kor Megron was an instrumental part of the Serrated Sun's contribution to the Battle of Calth. Throughout the Great Crusade, he usually was found attending to the First Company, until Argel-Tal's ascension to Chapter Master when he was requisitioned by the Chapter. On the battlefield, his skill in medicine is truly stunning to behold, able to bring Astartes from the brink of death with practiced ease. However, despite his station and his skill, or perhaps because of it, Kor Megron is possessed of an aloof vanity, always preferring to administer to his own wounds before those of his comrades.

My Brother Corbulo stand-in. This guy is dynamite! He has done some amazing things in practice games I have used him in. Such as

>Immobilizing a Raider with his Bolt Pistol
>Defeating 2 Haemonculi with 2+ Poison and Instant death by himself
>Killing a rhino when a Power Fist could not
>And saving the lives of countess Astartes by taking his 2+ FNP

He is still awaiting a suitably epic arm and I'm thinking of giving him a tabard as well. We will see how it plays out

Next up are some ideas I had, based off of Bits I saw near each other.

This guy is a salvage from my incredibly failed Sons of Horus army, but I think he might have a place here. Obviously Id file down the spikes, but I'm not quite sure if the idea has merit or if there's any use for it in my army. Feedback appreciated.

I know this guy isn't truescale, but he looks just too badass not to use. The Master of the Chapter and Bretonnian head give him a very crusaderly look, and the axe is quite the intimidating accessory. Maybe he will find a home as a possible Astorath the Grim. Again, feedback appreciated.

So thus far I have

Squad 1- PAINTING STAGES
Squad 2- UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Benedictii- PLANNING STAGES
Squad 1 Rhino- BUILT
Squad 2 Rhino- BUILT, needs to be stripped and repainted
Benedictii Rhino- BOUGHT
Vindicator 1- BUILT
Vindicator 2- BOUGHT
Argel-Tal- PLANNING STAGES
Chaplain- PAINTING STAGES
Kor Megron- UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Apothecary 2- PLANNING STAGES
Argel-Tal's Personal Transport- UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Dreadnought- BOUGHT

A lot of work ahead of me, but I'm excited to do it!

Hey...you know what would be really cool? Maybe you could use some of the new GK kits for Terminator command squads etc (for instance, I can easily see that banner being repurpsed to venerate Lorgar).

Other than that, good job so far.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@Mordoskull: I'll do my best not to disappoint. I have a few ideas kicking around, but I need to get my greenstuffing up to snuff before I try it.

@Joeyheadwounds: Thanks man, I'll try to keep to a three picture update a week schedule, class and work permitting.

@Grey Knight Luke: Sir yes sir! And I hope to see some more of your Death Company soon!

@Samwellfrm: Well I think the "Feel no pain" in his case doesn't come from his medical skill,

Word Bearer, "Arrgh, I've been shot"

Apothecary "Do you want me to come over there?"

Word Bearer. "NO! I mean...no, no...I'm fine. I didn't like that spleen anyway."

@Little lord Fauntleroy: That WOULD be really cool. I dont have any termies in my current list, but I'm definitely going to find the time for a super-cool retinue for Lorgar or Kor Phareron or the like. I've actually bought some Grey Knights to deny the servants of the False Emperor of valuable reinforcements

@Auxellion: Yeah, I think the white would be best. And thanks man! if it weren't for that test model you helped me with, this army wouldnt exist right now!

I should have most of squad 2 built by tomorrow night and be finished a few marines by friday, I'm slowly filtering into a schedule of putting in an hour here or there painting the odd marine. Pics forthcoming!

The guy with the bretonian head could be an inquisitor, that would explain why he isn't the same size as everybody else.

@DAWARBOSS: Its a cool idea, but there weren't any Inquisitors around during the Heresy. There might be some way they could be a Terran envoy though or someone whose not a full marine, just a genehanced Colchisan.

@TempusCorvus Thanks man. I agree about the dish helmet. I just need to find a place to put the guy.

Well its implied that Malcador created the Inquisition in the end of Flight of the Eisenstein. Also, Oath of Moment reveals that the =][= logo is the Sigillites personal seal

However, we only know for sure that he assembled a group of Astartes in ghost-grey armor during the heresy, starting around the Battle of Calth and these "Knight-Errants" used his sigil. No word on Inquisitors however
