Marcin Ciszewicz wrote:Sweet Jesus, is that a Sisters of Battle army, or an Imperial Guard armored battalion? Great interiors, and the weathering effects resemble dirt and grime in real IFV troop compartments pretty well.

I thought that the dust and grime would add to the charm of the interiors. Keep them from looking like pristine new cars and more like war hardened killing machines that immolators are.

Looks amazing mind

Thank you, I can't wait to get them painted so that I can finally play them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
A lot more work put into the immolators tonight. I airbrushed the red onto them at a downward angle. I will be highlighting more , and softening the red a fair bit in order to match a bit better with the cloth on my sisters.

I have a fair bit of weathering to do, lots of highlighting and adding my stripes to them like I posted previously.

Lots more pictures at my blog: http://sistersofbattle.org/?p=108

Well I have finished the first Immolator, with many more to go. I was able to get all of the effects I wanted into it for the most part, but there are a few areas that the camera showed me that need some cleanup.

Tons more pictures and some action shots here: http://sistersofbattle.org/?p=117
Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome and thanks for looking.

Thanks, I have spent lots of time and effort, and I keep finding little things to fix.

It's the quality combined with the volume that's so astounding. Most people (including myself) can pull it together for one or two figures or vehicles, but that kind of quality on a zillion immolators is really an impressive body of work.

Those are looking fantastic! Did you airbrush the recessed white armor on the Immolator or do that by hand?

Thank you, I can same some of it gets tedious at times, but I only have a few hours a day to work on my project so I try to make the best of it. I now have to replicate that look on 16 other immolator hulls, and I am not 100% happy with the turret so I have some more work to do there. There was also a suggestion to bring in the half and half pattern to the tabard that I think I will be doing as well so the tabart on my sisters is going to get some more work done to it. Additionally. I still need to put some time into the banners that attach to the immolators. I am trying to think of a custom image for each to do, so I need to come up with something before I start them.

Zefig wrote:Those are looking fantastic! Did you airbrush the recessed white armor on the Immolator or do that by hand?

Thank you, I did the white by hand. The base red was airbrushed on. I used a light gray to prime the area then layered white over it until I got the look they have now.

Here is a couple of changes I decided to make to the Immolator after all.

I went with a stained glass look for it. I go into a bit more of a monologue as to why I did this here: http://sistersofbattle.org/?p=178

Thanks for looking

I decided to put some work into my banners tonight so that I had a break from painting tanks and this is what I have come up with for the first one. There are probably a few spots that need some cleanup but here they are for your opinions. There are more pictures through the link: http://sistersofbattle.org/?p=238

I was fairly happy considering it was my first attempt at a banner. There are some items I can clean up but I will do that later.

I've avoided banners like the plague... so you have my respect for giving it a go!

I did not want to just use a transfer on it, and I thought I could pull it off, so with that I think it turned out better than I was expecting.

I made some progress on a couple of things over the last couple of days. First I finally based my Inquisitorial storm troopers, and I made some changes to my sister superior swords after seeing the how to paint thunder hammers tutorial http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/357667.page that was done by catattafish. So thinks to him for the ideas.

I still have about 15 more to base, and as you can see I did most of my plasma ones first, but none the less here they are.

You can see several more shots of my storm troopers here: http://sistersofbattle.org/?p=173

I liked the effect that catattafish was achieving on his t-hammers so I thought it would go well on a sword, and for that matter look much better than how I had done it so here they are.

You can see several more shots of my sister superiors here: http://sistersofbattle.org/?p=235

An update:
I finished up another Immolator hull last night, and took an inventory of items to make sure that anything I had left to order to finish my 2500 point force was ordered, and that I already had all of my 2000 point force in house.

I have 2 other Immolators in the pipeline that should be finished this week, and then I might change up the paint design a bit to have some differing looks on some of them. All in all the project is well beyond schedule. So I should be able to get something done in the near future.

Really nice stuff I' impressed by the volume and quality. To me the colour on the cowling of the Immolator looks off. I can't imagine it to be safe to let it get that rusty. It still looks highly skilled but I think that better would look better cleaner. The rest of the weathering is top notch however.

I agree, I was going more for a dirt-ish look to it. My thought was that they have been in the service of the emperor for a very, very long time so they should reflect some wear and tear, but to the same extent, the Adeptus Mechanicus would not allow them to fall into disrepair.

Fair enough. It still looks good.

I may change it up a bit in the future, but I want to keep on my personal timetable, so changes right now will be pushed to the end of the project.

It is no credit of my own, someone else on dakka a while ago used something similar. I think I ended up just adding an extra layer of wash on it for a darker gold.

fleet of claw wrote:I don't know whether you are collecting SOB or and IG Battalion

They are inquisitorial storm troopers, but I agree with you on that assessment. I feel somewhat the same on that subject. I have enough sisters to do a full foot force, but at this point I am building out for immolator spam with some expansion into the IG book to fill out my 2500 point force for ard'boyz. But anything less than that is all from the witch hunters book.

Here is a bit of an update on this project. These are photos of my second Immolator to be finished. There are a ton more photos through here http://sistersofbattle.org/?p=266 but the ones below will show you what I have come up with for the second one.

I put a fair bit more effort in to the weathering on this one. I wanted it to have a more used look to it. Like it has been in service for several millenniums, but I have yet to dig into doing chipped paint, so I might do a bit of that with my next version, who knows. Does anyone have any good links to chipping tutorials?

Any thoughts or ideas on what would need to be changed with this? There are some areas that the camera exposed to me that I might consider changing int he future, but we shall see.

Thanks for looking

The only thing I'm not sure about are the insides of the two front windows/view ports... I think you'd be better off with just black in there. Looks mighty nice though. Love the fleurs on the sides and top.

I agree on that one, I was up in the air if I wanted to keep with the window look done on the top, but the more I look at that the less I like it. It is not dark enough to be that deep into the tank. So that will be changed tonight. Thanks on the fleurs.

Very cool. =) I've got my mind on painting tanks atm as well (rhino's/immo's) and my colour scheme is similar to yours, gold armour, white tabards with red trim. I tried a mostly gold tank, and whilst it turned out ok, it looks a bit wierd. So im glad i came across this thread, as i may change the colour of my future tanks to something different. How did you do the weathering? I havent tried any yet =)

Loving your army so far. Girl powah?
