Trying to make a city with a bastion walls surrounding it, I believe GW did something like that for their Games Day last year. Can't find a pick though.

No, it was just there to see how that bunker would look on its own. I thought they could be used to create choke points.
However the design is created to be modular and I'm sure I will be adding optional parts to the design.

I don't understand this. Why go to all this effort to make a half size bastion? It's paper, it's not going to last and it looks like paper, with silly thin little walls and white paper edges.
I predict crumpled after 3 uses. Paper craft unique projects are neat, but paper terrain is a waste of time.
Just buy a real one.

Gotta say, like a lot of people i'm not a big fan of paper terrain, but this is pretty effective and buy the looks of the supporting edges on the interior, it should do the job for a while. I can see this being really useful to those who play a lot and in particular want to try something different (like an imperial castle table). Plus the plans would be very handy when making your own plastic terrain, as you could just print the outline on to plasti card. Which does work very well from my own past experience (warhound). I think Augustus may be hating for the sake of hating a little here, or doesn't get the paperhammer concept. Keep up the good work mate, look forward to seeing the finished pdf's and adding it to my collection.

Hits, do you have a guide or recommendations for printing onto plastic? I've often wondered about this myself, but was never quite certain how possible it was or how it would work, etc. What kind/size of plastic to use, etc. etc.
And yes, agreed, Augustus is hating for no real reason.

Ya know this all just looks awesome. If it is able to stand for more than acouple of games then it has served its purpose, and remaking it is still less than going out and buying a bunch of bastions.
Eagerly awaiting a .pdf

Oh? I think I get the papercraft concept better than either of you and the OP put together, if that concept is: inspired by some art, make something original based on it, print it out, show it as fan art!
Which is very different from:
Admire a kit, design a cheap paper copy by stealing source material with the exact same intended use of the original kit as a game piece, not fanart, to avoid the cost of the original. Then distribute the file for other cheap people to use. That's just low standard chicannery, and it doesnt make sense in the economic model either:
Buy a high quality laser printer ($200)
Buy Multicolor Toner Cartridges and high quality paper ($50)
Print a copied tower(s) and assemble it for hours ($?)
To produce a low grade paper copy of a kit that was only $29.75? One would have to make 9 of these just to break even if in the mindset of "I just want a cheap tower set". Even that doesn't make much sense...
Distributing the file to help other people print cheap copies is morally questionable in the least.
Reading through this thread to see a set of replies essentially saying:
"Ya good work, give me the file so I can make cheap copies too"
...is deplorable, especially when the response when called on it is "He doesn't get the papercraft thing". Somebody wants to buy it? wow!
Had you made your OWN tower with your OWN artwork, in a unique shape I would have applauded you and daresay you get the papercraft thing. I'll go ahead and say this, YOU don't get the papercraft thing, try making something original.
Or hey, just scan the rulebook and codices while your at it and post it all here as a PDF, why not?

Dude, sorry if you miss understood my meaning and took offence. Non was meant. But i think viewing pappercraft as fan art is a little naive to be honest.
All i'm saying is that hobby time is not something i think most of us consider as chargeable, and this project along with many others is a nice way for people (most of who i'm sure already own a printer etc) to expand their gaming table and play some more interesting games without spending to much money in the process. Plus its a fun to make.
I would imagine that the vast majority of people more interested in playing have a table comparable to this:
So some nice printouts arn't a bad thing to spice it up a little, plus GW have themselves released printable terrain free on their site many times in the past.
Paper V's Plastic kit is not the point im trying to make, they are not in the same league.
Anyways - sorry to thread jack Piper, but ill answer chaos's Q if thats ok. Printing on plasticard isn't too tricky, you just need to remember that the ink doesn't fully dry, so be carful when handling. Its not wet but will smug and sometimes you get a little bleeding while its drying. Also, clearly using a bubble jet is a better option, not sure what would happen though a laser printer? As for the thickness, you so have too keep it thin, around 0.5mm as i remember, but don't quote me on it. This sounds thin but used wisely, reinforced and detailed you can achieve some very nice results. One last thing, some plasticard (depending on the manufacturer)has a gloss side and a matt side, try to find the matt sided stuff as printing onto the gloss side is not advisable.
Hope thats useful to you all. Looking forward to seeing some more progress.

Does GW have a paper template that he copied? Looks to me like he's creating his own on photoshop. GW neither owns the rights to a concrete bunker, water stains on cement, nor a double headed eagle since all existed long before GW did. GW has plenty of lawyers fighting for their intellectual properties rights and doesn't need you or any other Junior GW IP Protection League members to defend their maiden honor. Please stop trolling the thread. As for your opinions on the overall crappiness of paper/cardstock terrain, GW would beg to differ with you. The gorkamorka ork fortress and 2nd edition Imperial bunker I have were official GW products and have stood the test of time. I'm sure the OP's will to as long as they're constructed correctly.

It's an obvious copy, your argument about copying a paper template is meaningless and juvenile. It's not original, its made in the pattern of an actual kit, and has patterns lifted out of a game and it's obvious. Clearly you are on the wrong side of it. And actually yes they do have trademark on the double headed eagle.
OP wrote:Base textures from DOW II
From the guys own post. He copied it, he didn't make his own "concrete bunker, water stains on cement, nor a double headed eagle". If he did that would be great, its a chop copy start to finish.

It's not original and it looks like a cheap copy of a real one, there's the truth.
This isn't an IP argument it's about artistic integrity and craft. You brought up IP, obviously because you know it matters, you wrestle with that.
Truth hurts huh? So dissenting opinions shouldn't post?

What ever has been said, i just hope it doesn't deter the OP from continuing (and finishing) this project, as i find it quite interesting. As i'm always curious to see what people can do with sketchup, and it kinda reminds me of the paper/card scenery you got in the older 40k sets.
