HP, I have to ask: Where did you get the design for the paper cathedral? I don't recognize it from World Works (Although I envy the heck out of you for your Himmelveil streets/buildings ). I
'd also suggest visiting Onemonk.com if you need free textures to avoid IP issues, as they have several sci-fi ones. Plus, I'd suspect you may be able to get WorldWorksGames' permission to use some of their textures if you're staying nonprofit, since OneMonk has free bases using WWG textures.
Can't wait for the updates!

While rolling a die, do not say, “Anything but a 1!” unless you wish the die to come up as 1. Any other such attempts to anger the “Dice Gods” will result in the existential equivalent of continuously flipping a coin and having it come up heads every time (for reference, see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead). Your dice will be cursed to roll ones for everything other than morale checks, which will come up sixes.

For waterproofing a MJOLNIR armor halloween costume, I went over each piece or pepakura armor I'd made with outdoor wood sealer. However, it was a drippy mess and I'd bet you could probably get pretty darn good sealing by simply using a couple coats of spray varnish. I suspect that if I'd tried the wood sealer on something smaller and less structurally stable then the armor components, I'd probably have ended up with serious warping.

For my spray varnish, I just use the cheapest spraycan in my local hardware store. Not sure at all how waterproof it is, but as far as I could tell from my limited aerial aquatic encounters, the wood varnish works fine. I strongly suspect that for waterproofing something with spray varnish, go over with several coats at least (More so than for normal spraypainting a surface by far). Watered down PVA would probably work, but I've never used it myself. Only problem is PVA isn't waterproof (iirc), so depending on how much water you plan on encountering, it might pose some issues.

I've gotten really side track with some other projects such as starting a new Space Wolves army, designing some other paper terrain such as Modular Hills, Collapsible Modular Hills, Trenches, Dungeon Geomorphs for my GURPS game, school and taking care of my family.
I've been looking at some of the Paper Hammer stuff and decided I could start to add extra bits for people to glue onto the Bastion to give it a more three dimensional build if they wish. As projects go this one has taken me longer to complete than my MechWarrior terrain, but I hope the end result will be worth it.

Awesome idea!! Keep up the good work, do you have any plans to do any fantasy style buildings and if you don't does anyone know of anywhere that you can purchase or download PDF's?
Whoever it was who was knocking the idea a few post back has no imagination, some of the best 40k and fantasy games I've ever had were using cobbled together scenery. Many moons ago I played a space marine versus space marine squad on squad skirmish in my brothers Lego town. We made up climbing rules and scrapped squad cohesion it was hilarious.

Just as the fortress is not an exact copy from GW but my interpretation of them. So please stop your angry comments. You have stated your opinion on the matter and have managed to derail my thread.
There is no angry here. The graphics are a direct lift per your own comments, and obviously this is a bastion from your own language 'bastion'.
Lifting the DOW2 graphics is expressly against the DOWII copyright, use of the imperial eagle is copyright, duplicating the bastion is against GW copyright. You are breaking multiple copyright and published forum rules as well.

I'm trying to draw a distinction regarding artistic virtue and creativity, between making something unique and making a copy.
I'm a big fan too, I love making terrain and things inspired by 40k, and I respect people who have the skill and discipline to make terrain, it's hard.
But don't make a copy of something because it's to expensive, make your own thing.
Here's an example of some things I made inspired by Eldar architecture, and illustrations from my favorite sculptor Jes Goodwin, from my Gallery. I am not claiming that they are "better" than anyone else work, just that they are original example, and not copies I made of something GW sells.

I'd like to know how complex people would like this to be. Do you want Print and Play, or like the Paper Hammer vehicles where you need to add a few bits and bobs. To make some people quite I'm remaking the texture and I'm offering them in a White build as well. Also my build offers many unique pieces that the GW model does not offer such as walls, bunkers and the ability to connect it with the fortress. I've also been working on Gates, Motor Pool (you have to park the Rhino somewhere) and something slightly different for the landing pad.
As for my version of the Fortress I'm getting rid of all that artsy fartsy stuff on it. I've never liked that.
@darkPrince010 - The Cathedral was never offered by WWG it is my design. I used the textures from Shellendrake and placed them on mat board.

I think it is pretty cool and a good solution for those of us that can't quite afford to pay for set pieces. I'm not saying it is the best way to have set pieces, but it is a good cheap alternative. Besides, if you are new player and just got your first models and want to use terrain, what better way to start out practicing at home than to have easy quick to make set pieces.
It is a good starting point.

What do you mean by adding a few bits? The only papercraft stuff I've assembled in the past is the old necromunda terrain and gorkamorka ork fortress so I'm not too familiar with the paper hammer vehicle techniques. If you stay within the difficulty range of that line of products, I'd say that the vast majority of people wouldn't be intimidated.

By extra bits I mean that you would have to cut several layers of card and glue them together giving the model a three dimensional look. So the support beam with the rivets would be cut out separately and then glued onto the model. Rivets can be added by using super glue or pin heads. Any Imperial Eagles would be cut out by hand and then placed on the Bastion. Take a look at the Paper Hammer Blog
I don't make these because I can't afford to purchase multiple GW Bastions, I make these because I like to build my terrain from scratch. I own a Plastic Bastion kit. It was assembled in twenty minutes then I placed it on my shelf. But when I make terrain from scratch I feel more connected with it, like I do with my models for spending so much time collecting, assembling and painting them. This is a hobby and I ENJOY building my terrain from scratch instead of doing it the easy way (this is my opinion and nothing against those who don't have the time or inclination to do it any other way) and just purchasing it and slapping it together. I plan on making a bunch of Paper Hammer Rhino's. I don't plan on using them in game but to use them as TERRAIN. I'm certainly not going to purchase a Rhino that I could use in my army and trash it for terrain so I will scratch build it.
That being said I've been looking at other pictures of kitbashed Bastions and I may add some ideas such as a Vindicator Cannon to the side (optional of course), and I'm thinking of some plug and play ideas so you can easily remove the turrets and swap them about.

I would say that some key single piece details like a large aquila would be good to have as a separate piece but not to go too far with it (like with extra pads on tracks to give them a 3d look as shown on the link you provided) for those of us with less papercraft skill. Details like layered tracks and rivets "painted" onto your texture would make it a heck of alot easier to assemble. If people want to add on a more 3d flair, they can always add the extra layers on top of the image that has the 2d skin of the rivet/details.
Maybe make both? Paint the details onto the texture in a slightly smaller scale and then make a slightly larger separate detail layer. If people want the minimum, they can just assemble the larger pieces and still have the details in the texture itself. If they do want the added layered 3d detail, they can use the texture detail image as a guide for where to place the actual larger (so it covers it completely) piece. I don't know how much extra work the above entails but it sounds like it might be the best of both worlds if its feasible for your project timewise.

Did you see the forum rules about posting copyright? What do you think about that? Do you have something to say about how copies are good things or what you think of these examples, because it looks like your post was just to tell me not to post anymore.
Gundor wrote:People don't like other peoples paint job or how they play, etc.... That's fine. But don't put someone else down because they don't agree with you or what you think is the right way to do something.

If a person can't afford it, that doesn't make it magically OK to steal a copy.
An important reason not to support distribution of copies is because it can get sites in trouble. I have been on Dakka for almost 10 years and I really like it. I want it to keep going. If you do too, you shouldn't support, congratulate or make requests for copies like these. That's why papercraft copies are a terrible idea, whether they look cool or not.
Also if you can't understand the difference between making something original and just copying something, I don't know if I can help you. But to try anyway, I checked out the papercraft link that Highland_Piper put up, look at this:
publicjoe_on_blogspot wrote:The models are not as good as the real things, but you can make some pretty good proxies with them which are perfectly acceptable for friendly games.
This is another case of an exact copy, it's not original, it's not good. If it were a custom turret, or a variant, or something for a model they don't make or something completely original it would be great, but it's just a copy. It's not "pretty good proxies with them which are perfectly acceptable" it's a cheap, primitive copy. Just like these bastions here are.
Look back at that post. There aren't any personal attacks in it.
Also, this:
killykavekommando wrote:In the U.S., at least. It is only an infringement of copyright if the duplicator sells the duplicate.
Is not correct, it depends on a lot of factors, as Janthkin well knows, copyright is different than patent, and what I can say is it involves possible damage to lost sales, purpose, and percent to which something was copied and it's on an individual case by case basis. I read it. It's not just if it gets sold. Giving away free copies could be just as bad, even worse, because it potentially affects a much wider base, than making just one. I didn't really want to talk about that sort of thing. I want to talk about the virtues of making something original, but I had to reply to killykavekommando giving really terrible advice.
End point, make something unique!
