Australian Republicans?
We have Republicans over here as well.
The pressure group Republic, which campaigns for a democratic alternative to the monarchy, has announced a series of demonstrations timed to co-ordinate with the official Jubilee celebrations.
These include a protest on the afternoon of 3 June when a flotilla of up to a 1,000 boats, headed by the Queen and senior politicians, will travel along the Thames from Putney to Tower Bridge.
Republic spokesperson Graham Smith said: "The Pageant goes to the heart of what's wrong with the monarchy. It's an enforced celebration of hereditary power, and all the problems that spring from it."

As for presents; I'd give her France. I know you said you couldn't take over a small country for her Matty, but France should be pretty easy. We could move all the French to the UK and then go live in France and find out what this "sunshine" thing is everyone has been talking about is...

Ill tell you what, send me a PM when your grandmother dies and ill be sure to pop along to the funeral and piss on her grave. If im too late and she has already snuffed it, send me the address of the grave yard and ill go dig her up and spread eagle her skeleton across your car bonnet.

Thats my point, in all honesty im not a mega Royalist, Im a working class bloke not a sad bastard who follows the Royals around, but all the people in this thread need to read more newspapers if they think that the Queen is "robbing" us and not doing any work and our politicians are fantastic public servants.

Yes... Because she's not effectively an ambassador or anything... Hasn't been navigating politics and foreign affairs longer than most of our top politicians have been alive and isn't better informed than the majority of them on such things. Oh, and she doesn't advise them, based on 60 years of doing all this stuff.
Oh, wait. She does. Value for money really.
As for the money, personally she's not particularly rich compared to sooooooooooo many other residents of the UK.
Also, she's dealt with everything bad thrown at her with grace and tact.
Back on topic... Apparently she likes her iPod a lot. Maybe a personalised case?

As an American, I am curious about this "giving gifts to political figures" thing. I for one voted for Obama, but I would never even entertain the thought of sending him some cheesy gift on his birthday. lol I don't even know when his B-day is. Is it common practice for the citizens of Great Britain to send gifts to the Queen on her B-day, or just something that your thinking about doing? Honestly, The politicians over here are so corrupt and untrustworthy, it's no wonder we don't have a tradition like this one.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies. |
