Im not sure if i want too yet, But it would be nice to find a place that has a nice assortment of female heads that can fit marines.
If I was you, I would just get SoB's Or paint the SM's armour in MlP colours.
Good luck what ever you do though!
Thats hardly a project though. Its more of buy and paint. I want to sculpt the hair on.

As I said, it's just my opinion, but it's really not that funny to anyone who's not a MLP fan. And it's not a new concept. Like many internet sub-cultures, you'll have the small handful of people who loooove it, even if for no other reason than because they share the culture with you, and a large majority of people who don't get it all and will give you some polite "uh huh, that's funny" comments.
In the end it depends on presentation really, if you put enough energy into something you can pull of almost any gag or gimmick.
edit: I should also point out, that in addition to the people who don't get it, you'll get plenty of haters. Some people really have negative reactions to sub-cultural references like MLP, probably because of the vocal minority who are extremely obsessive/defensive/perverted about it.
For the record, I have never watched MLP, and am no fan. But MLP SM Armies are hysterically funny to me. I follow the progress of them, because it is funny, and imaginative stuff.
Comments like this make me want to buy some MLP, armour them up into cavalry mounts for my DE army. Just to see people get annoyed.
Interesting how MLP conversions/references get bashed, but the conversion of a model to look like Serenity from Firefly gets huge approval.

Please explain in a coherent, logical manner, why you are opposed? And why, exactly, is it a terrible idea?
Wolf Kharok wrote:not because im sexist merely because i find MLP to be one of the worst possible franchises to be found......
I don't know, I think MLP is harmless. Unlike, say, the Telletubbies. Unless you fancy fighting against an army made up of telletubby SM?
Wolf Kharok wrote:but that being said thats my opinion not yours and as for branding?.
Yep, it is your opinion, and it differs widly to mine. I think it is a great idea. At least the user is showing creativity and imagination. Lets face it, it isn't as if you are allowed to be too creative with your armies normally, is it? We can't develop our own units, evolve our own weaponry from existing...
And one reason why I hate SM is BECAUSE all of them are male. Which makes the DE a huge plus for me.
Wolf Kharok wrote:in over a decade i have done an army or Nazi marines..... an army of Japanese IG whole whole purpose was that reminiscent of Perl Harbor and i have yet to be branded as anything other than "Eccentric"....
Maybe, instead of criticising, you should be applauding a fellow free thinker? The user is your comrade-in-arm for creating an individual and original army, not an opponent of yours.

GW created female space marine models during RT, their tabs even read 'female space marines'. And I think Rick Priestly knew a bit more about the 40k universe than whatever intern wrote the last codex.
A few years back the Inquisitor game included a character obviously intended to be a female marine named Artemis. I mean seriously, are we to think that no one in GW knew Artemis is a goddess' name?
this whole 'no girls allowed' thing looks to me like a case of fans (and current writers) who still think girls have coodies.
I call bull scat on this one rick wrote the first Index Astartes on the creation of space marine and it's stated in there that there is no female space marines. I call bull scat on the whole notion of men only Space Marines. It shows a backward minded, chauvinistic mentality. Give me female SM, and and Female IG, for that matter.
And as for owning the models of females in Power Armour... show them for us please, so we can all debate the merit of your statements, based on the models you have based your argument on.
Having female SM could well bring females to all of this, thus creating more possibilities. Or are you going to say that women make rubbish generals? Automatically Appended Next Post: FabricatorGeneralMike wrote:

To the original poster, and anyone who wants to create something that is different, unusual or unconventional... DO IT. You are the way forward, not jokers like FabricGeneralMike. People like him conform to the world, you folks are making the world conform to you. And that is how progress is made.

I mean, come on...GW has been doing this sort of thing since the beginning. Anyone remember when there was no attack bike, but you could have a Vincent Black Shadow? Hell, Leman Russ is still with us. They've been joking for so long that some of the jokes have been forgotten and/or are no longer relevant. They're still joking about their products on a regular basis; check your codex for details. I'm not entirely sure why a certain subgroup gets offended by stuff like this.
I love the fact that GW puts lots of puns in 40k. It's part of the charm.
Pink space horsies are not an intelligent tongue in cheek pun, it's a parody and all parodies are going to be hit or miss, plus the second time I see a parody I usually find it a lame boring copy...

IIRC, "Leman" and "Russ" are two separate jokes. I want to say that it has to do with cars or motorcycles, as other early jokes did. The original GW executives did love their motors. Le Mans comes immediately to mind but don't quote me on that. It's been many years and many beers.
I've got all the old 1st edition stuff. I'll have to look again. I was meaning to do so anyway for old time's sake. The joke was apparent to me as a teenager with the books and without the internet, as it didn't exist then and I wasn't one to spend time in libraries.

This is my opinion and nothing more:
There are valid arguments on both sides. I am of the opinion that if you worked hard to be able to purchase your army then you should be able to *paint it in any manner that you wish to paint it in. But you cannot and should not use parts that are not official GW parts, i.e. putting 3rd party girl heads on your space marines which by the way is stupid. If you want a female 40k force there are offical options.
*With that being said I also feel that if you intentionally/belligerently paint your army a scheme that does not fit the 40k universe in any way shape or form and is not a true artistic expression of your own making then you deserve all of the ridicule that you WILL receive.
I'm all for thinking outside of the box and even borrowing aspects of pop culture for your color scheme. A friend of mine has a vanilla marines army painted bright yellow and blue and it rocks. My IG borrow the color scheme from Pink Floyd's The Wall's Hammer Army (Red/Black/White). I've even painted hammers here and there (hammer of the emperor?) and the difference is that I'm not painting Pink Floyd cover art all over my tanks or painting the Pink Floyd logo on things and calling it my Floyd Army. The fluff is that it's a special division of the IG who are a branch of the Inquisition.
Most players play the game because they like the 40k universe and want to be a part of it. We invest a great deal of our time and money into this hobby read the books, forums, news, etc. We even take pictures of the battle field. I don't want a space marine with boobs and long flowing hair in the background. How can you feel involved in a game of 40k if you've invested precious time in your particular army and now you have to play against Captain America/ My Little Pony/ Nazis / Optimus Prime / Captain Dildo and the Nutbag Brigade?
The thing is... i'd still play against you as would any other gamer because we love the game, but you'd forever be known in the community as the dumb ass with the pony army.
edit: If Sisters of Battle had plastic kits and weren't so expensive/hard to find/in need of an update but won't ever get one... I would have a SOB army. I've always wanted an all female army. GW needs to get more female models in their line and it is sad that the almost every model for 40k/WHFB is male.

And where in the if you want to play 40k you must lick GWs beanhole law state I can't use outside products?
As for your inquiry about "official" models, I beleive this article explains it well: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/396502.page
Modding is part of the hobby and it's a fun part of the hobby. I totally agree with you about it being your model to do with what you want. I'm cool with using 3rd party items to mod your army as long as it's not something outside of the realm of 40k. I will probably buy some heads with gas masks from a 3rd party vendor and put them on my IG troops.
What I meant was, in my opinion, using parts to make your GW models look so completely out of the realm of 40k ruins my experience if I have to play against you. It would be like wanting your Space Marines to look like Protectorate of Menoth or My Little Pony... I don't want to play Warmachine or My Little Pony. Why don't you just play Warmachine or buy some ponies and play with them? << Was my point.

Your right some of the GW line treads very close to being a joke parody. I myself am quiet taken with the praetorians.

Kinda agree, It is up to people to make their army however they want. The female space marine army theme comes up all the time and if well done can look really good. Fluff says their is no female space marines - but it also leaves hundreds of chapters namesless for us to wild with.
I also agree, because I'll only ever play against armies I want to. If I'm offered the chance to play a MLP army, I'll likely pass.

Yeah, I re-read that and yes there is a lot of freedom when building a vanilla marine force. I've met a few players who don't give a damn about the fluff and just want the tactical simulation. I think that if someone were to put a genuine effort into building an all female space marine force because they really think the 40k universe deserves a female space marine force... and not just to piss people off... then my hat is off to them.

I reckon go for it, anything different is always cool by me, as long as effort has been put into it. I once say a Seargent Harker model that had been converted into Mr T, and it was awesome! There is also an all Halo Space wolf army which I would give my right arm to be able to model. I probably wouldn't go for MLP, but if that's your thing, then good for you!

Ah. Honestly I've been playing my mix helmet and female head marines at the local GW store with no complaints. My transformer toys converted into thunderwolves gets alot of attention and sometimes I get asked to show them off but at the end of the day 99 percent of my army is at least primed and most of my opponents aren't to that stage as they just started playing.
At the end of the day its your toys on your shelf, and win or lose the big or little rulebook is there to provide you with the vehicle to fun. Automatically Appended Next Post: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/424613.page

You lable yourself as someone who wants to do things purely to annoy others, for me you exemplify 99% of the MLP cult.
I feel sorry for the 1% who actually likes MLP and sees it being used for trolling and nerd baiting.
Truth be told I quite enjoy smart clever trolls, a good bit of trolling can be a joy to observe.
There is so much hate for MLP trolls because they are boring and easy to spot...
Panic...
I completely disagree with you there. Since there are a lot of conversions in warhammer and warhammer 40k.
IMO the hobby is based on being a hobby, meaning you can do pretty much whatever you want, especially
if you take a lot of joy out of it.
I am pro MLP warhammer models (I'm not sure about battling though but that has to do with me not playing)
I think it's a interesting project having to combine two popular subjects from different sides of the fantasy spectrum.
Painting wise I think MLP has a lot to offer because again IMO bright colours are interesting to work with, MLP
also have a lot of small details (e.g. the mark on their back and the jewellery) this makes it a good project
to develop skill and observation.
Modelling wise I think it's interesting because you have to replicate something that a lot of people seem to be
interested in and also a lot of people have a opinion of. As hotsauceman1 stated he would like to model the hair,
this is one of the examples why I think he should do it. MLPs are big enough therefor a better step to step up your skills.
I don't think someone is less for fusing warhammer models with MLP. If this is all intended to disrespect people,
the answer will always be yes, you should not do that. If that is not the case, than IMO people who convert their models
into something crazy and on the edge of a codex and/or avert from the GW colour scheme should get the same evil
glare.
So yeah, I think this is a cool project and would maybe even do one or more myself one day.
S.

If you're pulling inspiration from MLP by using colors from the series then that's fantastic. If you're putting girl heads on them with horse tails and rainbows coming out of their butts... and it's for your own creative outlet and not for the gaming table then that's even more fantastic.
I've come to the table with my army [read:investment] and faced off against an Ork player. When he started pulling out the Mr. Potato head toys, that he converted to and said were Killa Kans, I quietly started packing up my army and moving to a different table.

Emphasis added by me.

I think this is the problem I have with some players. They see their tabletop wargame played with ltitle plastic army men as a monetary investment and a serious pasttime. Those who don't share the monetary investment or the seriousness with them are not worth their time.
Personally, if someone can modify a Mr. Potato Head into a Killa Kan and make it look decent, then I'd actually be more insterested in playing them. It may not have the monetary investment, but it takes time, and takes time to make something look good. Plus, I recognize that no everyone can afford our overpriced pieces of plastic.
Likewise, I simply cannot take the 40k seriously any more. Esepcially after playing Space Marine (PS3), as it's so over-the-top it's absurd.
I'm playing a game where I'm making little plastic army men race across a table to shoot other little plastic army men. And even if we get into the storlines and fluff behind 40k, 99% of the games we play are battle fought for no other reason than "I want to".
So in short, if 40k is that much of a "serious business" to you, then please pack up and move to another table. You're doing both you and I a favor.

On-topic!
I'm not sure about good-looking female heads, though since you're willing to sculpt on hair, you make things a lot easier. When I was considering doing fem-marines before, I was looking at Hassle-Free Miniatures. They have a few female head packs.
If you were wanting the hair already on, I've seen people take the WHFB Wood Elf heads and use those. They don't look great, but they look more feminine.

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day when the "Rawr I hate ponies" hate outweighed the "Rawr Girls can't be Space Marines" hate.

It doesn't help that most of the MLPs that are featured on the show are female as well. My daughter can name every girl pony but I point to one with a obvious male voice and I get a blank stare. haha

Why Oh Why?
Why does it always turn the same way? Why can't someone post a question about making female marines (or even MLP marines now) in the P&M section without it turning to a fluff war?
Isn't the P&M section the neutral and peaceful switzerland of this forum?
On topic: Hotsauceman1, have you considered using plastic Dark elves witches heads?

Here the same, if you want to convert, paint and model MLP is as much as your own buisnes and choice as when you decide not
wanting to play them. In my eyes everything seems pretty fair to be honest
