My first 5 games of 40k using my black reach captain. Every game (due to my inexperience and bad strategy) he always ended up close to my own board edge and failing combat. He ran off the board every game. Forever after I named him Captain Nike, and as soon as my freehand is good enough I am going to paint the swoosh on his shoulderplate to honour his prowess at running fast. :-)

years ago using the Alaitoc craftworld list against a Monstrous creature tyranid list and all I needed at the bottom of the last turn was to kill a Carnifex with it's last wound remaining

one squad of Pathfinders left to shoot who needed 2+ to hit 4+ for AP:1 and then 4+ to wound.....I said yeah I got this watch them Finders work their magic!

Went to War masters in Kitchener last month, round three or so was the best game I've had since I picked up the hobby. I ran Elder and my teammate ran wolves. Opponents were Blood Angels and GK.

GK brought a Dreadknight, Paladins and Draigo. Forget what the BA player had as the wolves mostly held them across the table from me.

Had all pathfinders for troops, one relic objective, Draigo and the Dreadknight book for it. My wolf rhino gets wrecked just past a ruin near the table center, limiting my firing lane to about an inch wide.

At this point I had been picking off pally's and the DK is occupied with Bjorn in an epic brawl, in which he rips off Bjorn's arm and gets beat anyway IIRC. Anywho, I have to reposition the pathfinders because Draigo is down to a single wound and is making off with the objective on turn 5, meaning I have to cut across difficult terrain to do so.

Two guys have line of sight. Both fire, both roll fives. Roll to wound, and two sixes. Two shots at AP1 and rending. I shake my head fully expecting the invul save to carry the day, but I believe he rolled two ones. Both shots take him, Draigo is down, my opponent high fives me over the table.

My favorite moment was when my normal squad of IG made it to the middle objective on the board killed 3 of my opponents necrons(things with the shields.. i dunno) that were also camping on the objective enter close combat (turn 4)... lose it by three and manage to pass leadership (turn 5 starts, then the other guy on his team (it was a doubles match ) charges in with regular Sm bolter marines kills two IG then the necrons kill another 3 of my men and i have 2 guys left... they roll double 1 on their leadership test and the game ends in a draw

I had a Die that landed, and stayed, on its point, I wish the guy would email me the pick.
Also, turn 1, telion taking out a rhino with one shot.

One of my friends put a vondicator pie plate on top of a tact squad that had just come out of a rhino, the whole squad would habe died.
But the emperor was with me, and he scattered the back onto his vindicator and proceeded to explode his own tank.

On an other note, I've played my land raider a dozen time now, and it has exploded, not wreck, not survive, exploded in every single one of my games

Before I purchased my own 'Crons, I proxied a lot of stuff in using a friend's models. This was back before the new Necron 'Dex released. I had a Monolith threatening lots of his stuff, next turn he would start eating gauss fire. On his turn, he shoots at me with a Whirlwind. Six to hit, six to penetrate, boom. I was not happy.

I got revenge, though. A few months later, I had finally purchased my own stuff (after the 'Cron dex hit). Shot his Land Raider with a Doomsday Ark. Bullseye, six to pen, six on the vehicle damage table. On turn one. He was not happy.

More recently, in sixth:

Fighting against another friend's Nids. I coast my Doom Scythe up to his Trygon. Death Ray puts a wound on him, then I shoot him up with the Tesla Destructor. The Tesla Destructor puts another two or three Wounds on him. Then the shot arced. Back onto my Doom Scythe. D6 S6, AP- hits. 6 hits, three of which Penetrate my AV 11 Flier. Adding insult to injury, the 'Crash and Burn' blast of death scatters in such a way as to not hit any of his units.

Of course, his Trygon then died trying to assault my Deathmarks.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm lets see.... currently my personal favorite is my Rhino being a bawse, how you ask? It's was an epic fight, my homebrew chapter of space marine versus the grey knights (not draigowing, but draigo) and EVERYTHING DIED, except for his draigo and my Rhino, minus a stormbolter, it's my turn, and I figure, "If I'm going down like this, i might as well make him death of glory".... what ended up is i run my rhino at LAWRD DRAIGO and guess what his roll is~ boxcars baby! followed up by another set of boxcars, to further add insult to injury, leaving my Rhino the sole model on the board that's alive.....


Second up and my absolute favorite thing about my tau...... I took his armies worth of shooting, on a single drone, with a 2+ armor and feel no pain..... AND IT DIDN'T DIE..... I still lost but the look on everyones face was priceless..... Drone got promoted to remora drone now~

Killing a land raider with one haywire grenade.

I felt good about doing it to a kid who regularly cheats with his list.

A funny moment I had in a game was where I was playing one of those special games in the rulebook (250-400 points) it was my necrons vs chaos. My necrons were doing what they do which was shoot the crap out of the Khorne Beserkers charging me from across the board with my necron overlord keeping the Chaos Lord busy.... not really...

As he got closer he kept his 'Serkers in cover, he went to move one of the models forward to charge but ended up knocking the model over, butttt the model front flipped up and landed perfect. So we joked that the Khorne Beserker was in cover then dove and rolled up to charge the Necron Warrior.

This happened a while back in 5th (IG vs IG)

I had a regular guard squad with a meltagun ride in my vendetta (sent my vets walking for some reason). First of all my devildog scattered 12" onto my vendetta - destroying it. About half of the squad and the meltaguy survived the following crash. They later came under enemy fire and lost more souls. Only the meltaguy survived. But he ran, oh how he ran. Managing 3 turns of 4-6" runmoves, go to ground cover saves on open field and Ld checks for Get back in the fight. On his last turn alive he blew up a basilisk, killing 8 additional guardsmen in the blast (he himself survived that to). Not until he faced the full wrath of an primaris psyker did my hero fall. (oh right, my devildog succeeded another 12" scatter, onto itself)

I have never, ever, seen a single guardsman do such a difference in all my years of wargaming. Considering that the rest of my force behaved like a bag of slowed snotlings, that lone meltaguy made my day. (And much frustration to my opponent)

But I also remember a Apocalypse game where the opposing teams shadowsword became immobilized in a very unforgiving direction. Its only target? A lone guard Sarge. (There is no kill like overkill)

I just remembered another one. This is 5th:
My Tau are getting chewed up by Chaos Marines. His Nurgle DP (with no wounds) charges my one remaining suit in the top of turn 3.
They spend the next 5 turns (5 assaults, 2.5 full turns) trading blows. The suit makes AT LEAST 15 IS. I whittle the DP down causing a wound about every other turn. I finally kill it in the bottom of turn 5, ending the game with just that suit and a HH remaining.
Obviously, that suit has been promoted to my new Shas'O.
Gore for the Greater Good!

5th ed. right before 6th.

My Eviscerator priest and 6 Guardsmen (remaining of squad) charge through difficult terrain (basically a low building, they jumped off of the roof which was basically the height of a 1 and a 1/2Guardsman) into assault. Overwatch kills 4 Guardsmen, in assault I only nab 2 Fire Warriors/ my lot are killed by the rest of the Tau, who load up into their Devilfish and proceed to troll the rest of my guys for the rest of the game, lol

Lately?

Astrubel Vect being shot to death by a grot firing squad.

I play Orks, so i tend to have fun moments galore..

How on earth does the Whirlwind Penetrate an AV 14 Monolith in the first place?

The Whirlwind can only fire a max Str of 5, so the best it could ever get for penetration would be an 11.

You would need at least S 9 to Pen a Monolith in 5th.

I'm going to guess he means Cyclone missile launcher rather than Whirlwind, and that the marines in this case were Black Templars who could take Tank Hunter and thus penetrate off S8.

Could be.

6th edition:

The anti-aircraft haywire grenades. Casualty list thus far : 2 stormravens and 1 vendetta.

5th edition:

The unstoppable Raider.

I was playing a game against a BA player with two land-raiders, razorbacks and some predators. I had a few points leftover in that list so I threw the enhanced aethersails on one of my raiders in addition to my 'mandatory' upgrades of shock prow and flickerfield. I'd planned to play the game seriously, but after deployment I had a change of heart and decided to feth around. So I disembarked the raider's passengers onto my home objective to hunker down, and rocketed that Raider across the board and right into the front armor of his first land raider. Build up more than enough momentum for a strength 10 hit, penetrate and a wrecked result. My opponent rolled a 1 on his attempt to puncture my raider's armor, which, thanks to D3 extra front armor, didn't do squat.

Next turn, he moves his tanks closer to the raider (to prevent me from building up speed) and opens fire on everything but the raider that just wrecked a huge portion of his list. It got a few token shots and assaulted by the land raider's contents, but failed to do any damage other than shaking it. My turn, the Raider zooms back into my deployment zone and out of LoS. I wrung my hands and began darkly eying that other Land Raider. Our armies exchanged more gunfire and Wracks clashed with assault marines in close combat until my third turn rolled around. Out from the ruins exploded the unstoppable rocket-raider, its prow spitting lightning that charred the earth in its wake. With engines at full and its sails catching a powerful tail wind, the Raider smashed into the Land Raider's side armor and split it open with a titanic explosion. This time, the strength 10 hit did puncture the Raider's hull.

Only for the damage to be warded off by the vehicle's flickerfield.

It was beautiful. My opponent then chose to dedicate a stupid amount of firepower to making sure that Raider didn't make it home, and succeeded only in immobilizing the thing. At which point it became an impenetrable bunker, suffering stunned and shaken results ad infinitum but never going up in smoke. Survived all the way 'till the end of the game. I could not stop laughing as I picked the model up off the table and my opponent glared at it balefully.

Another oldie. The very first time I faced a Land Raider in combat it was before the plastic ones came out. It was that old funky triangle one they use to have. My opponent was very proud of his shiny new tank and couldn't wait to just slaughter my vehicles with it's lascannons. Turn 1 my Rhino shoots it with an HKM. 3 consecutive 6s lol. To this day I still ALWAYS take HKM on every vehicle I can.

It's possible I'm misremembering names. It was some long-range tank, anyway.

Probably when an imperial guardsmen killed an un-wounded Fateweaver in assault.

It is still talked about over 1 year later........

Another one, from late 5th.

My SAG-big mek accidentally shooting himself into Mephiston, who then proceeds to fail to kill him due to cybork body and crappy rolling.

The Big Mek then obliterates him with his Power Klaw...

my funniest moment was actually when I had to quit a game early because we ran over time and I had to get to a haircut. I told the guys I had to go and started packing up my necrons, and a real old salt who gave me my demo game said: "well I guess they're the old necrons." that started a hilarious conversation in which it was decided that my necrons were a scout force watching the other kill teams duke it out, and when they got shot they ran away. you had to be there but it was hilarious.

in 5th you took fearless wounds

Lately, I literally attacked my friends Tigurius with over 1400 points of IG, and he survived nearly every attack, only taking a single wound. Thats when we figured I was the worst dice roller of the group. My friend then said "Welcome to the Imperial Guard!" after he had survived dozens of lasgun shots.

mowing down a chaos sergent (or whatever they are called.) who wanted to melee a squad of my guardsmen with a hail of lasbolts.
same squad blasted choas lord to death that had previously survived multiple heavy bolter/battlecannon/railgun shots.

Shot one of thoe heldrake things (new chaos flyer) out of the sky with my command squads melta and plasma guns, when my ally (another player GK/Tau) failed to kill it with railguns and my hydras only managed 1 hull point because of the demon save.

Executioner tank killed 4 seperate vehicles with 5 of its plasma shots going wild (executioner cannon and sponsons). killed 2 rhinos and 2 razorbacks.

vaproizing creed from the opposite side of the board with my Shadowsword... only his boots were left...

Hydras told a fleet of Dakka jets to off and blasted them all out of the sky in 1 go. every shot hit. every shot penned.

Droping a Vortex missile on that GK guy who "gets back up" and the ensuing argument of it he is removed from play or "gets back up".

I was playing a 2v2 of Space Marines and Dark Eldar vs. Blood Angels and Space Wolves. We'd decided to play with Archeotech, for the lulz.

Through the cover of ruins, my Rune Priest survived an onslaught of shots, taking 1 wound in the process. The DE player leveled blasters at me and missed.

My partner moves up the archeotech at my urging, rolls on the table, and gets the result with hits all psykers on the field with a pretty low strength hit. I rolled the check and failed.

Through 20 some odd shots, some removing his armor save, the Rune Priest survives against the odds only to be killed by his battle brothers in a freak psychic accident.

I'm having trouble remembering if I had 32 or 28 Deathwing Terminators, but I was playing an Imp army and I had deep struck Belial and friends (all with thunder hammers and storm shields and one assault cannon) in front of a full guard squad, killed 4 with the assault cannon. They pass leadership, fired back with 6 double tapping lasguns, all hit and all wounded.

I rolled 10 1's.

I lost 19% or 21% of my army to flash lights.

I eeked out a win by 1 kill point, but I was sweating bullets the whole game.

Well technically this was my friend but its hilarious.
He was playing a Tau vs DE game (he was Tau) and he had named a FW sergeant (equivalent) Tom. Tom was the last warrior alive and then proceeded to wound that DE commander guy with the 2++ rerolls thing, removing his save and basically winning the game for Him. Oh yeah, he survived all of the dudes attacks first...
