Well, by base coat I guess I meant primer? The stuff you spray on first. I used white, instead of my usual black. But I think the problem might have been that I didn't shake the can enough before I started spraying. There are many things to learn in this hobby, I guess.
Oh and one small update: I got sick of waiting for all the stuff I ordered, so I impulse bought a daemon prince when I went to my local GW yesterday; so look out for that. My plan is to model and paint it so it looks like one of my possessed.

The dryads are looking really good. Spray primers a fickle thing if its too hot or too cold it can affect the paint I believe. As for the impulse buy it happens to us all, my last one was a space marine megaforce! Looking forward to see what you come up with for it. It's a decent model if a little limited in poses.

Yeah, I'm planning to do a bit of converting with it, particularly the legs and head. They're both quite meh for my taste. I've got some plans involving cabling, a skull and a GK sword...
Time for another update, hooray! Since I posted last, I've busted out the superglue and modelling sand and gotten some basing done. I'm considering adding some static grass to the possessed bases to tie them in a little more, but I haven't made up my mind yet.
Finally, a bit of a team shot to show how the warband is looking as a group. I'm pretty happy with it, they're looking like a cohesive unit.

Ah Slaanesh corrupted trees... Always loved that idea, good to see you pulled it off very well Like I said to someone before, you can have a great painted model but it lokoks truley amazing once the base is done as well as it completes the image.
Looking forward to more things from you

Thanks guys. I really wanted to make these guys look distinctive, it's nice to hear that you think I'm pulling it off.
Since my last update, I've had a massive supply drop. Two boxes of spawn, a daemon fiend, a space marine tactical squad (to hack apart mwahahaha), a chaos terminator lord (to convert into an Emperor's Children lord), some trees and basing supplies. Unfortunately, it's been raining all week so the most I've been able to do with all of my goodies is gaze longingly at the sprues and whisper soon... soon...
However, I've had my daemon prince to work on, and work on it I have. As previously mentioned, I'm not a fan of the legs that model came with so I decided to do away with them entirely and pose the model airborne. Excuse the huge hunks of blu-tack in the pictures below, I'm still in the process of fitting everything together and I like to paint my models unassembled.
First test assembly:
The join on the speaker/wing attachment:
Second test assembly:
The head is from the Tomb Kings Necrosphinx my boyfriend is working on, so it'll need a bit of shaping to get it to fit but I prefer it to any of the options that came with the kit. Since I took these photos, I've done some more green stufffing on the other wing and tongue. I still have a bunch of cables, vines and tentacles to add under the body, but I won't really be able to work on that until I get some of the bits I'm using for the base. My original plan was to have the tail bearing the weight of the model when it's based, but I've since decided that it's not going to be high enough. I'll probably end up using some of the other bits hanging underneath to bear the weight and give some more height.
I've got another daemonette based, but I had some superglue fog when I assembled her so I need to touch that up before I take any photos. I've also got a winter-themed dryadnette nearly done, so expect pictures of her soon as well.
As usual, and and all feedback is encouraged.

Excellent use of the Necrosphinx head, Ive used the same head on one of my Daemon engines. Which legs are you planning on using? I know a few people have had success with tthe Hive Tyrant legs from the Tyranids.

Yeah, I'm not really sure about the legs. At this stage, I'm just planning on putting a bunch of tentacles/vines/cables under the body, maybe some bat-like toes for grabbing on to stuff. But I don't know. I've ordered the big rock from this guy:
to pose under the model like it's a summoning altar and to give the model some extra height on the base. I don't want to do too much to the underneath of him until that arrives and I know what I'll need to add height/bulk wise. I've still got a bit of work to do on the head, I have to fit it to the neck and I'm going to be adding a Grey Knight sword through one eye socket. I've also got some bits coming to put on the tops of the speakers. I've been working on some fluff for my DP, but it needs a bit of work before I'll be ready to share it.
I also started working on my daemon fiend for a change of pace, hopefully I'll have some WIPs to show off soon.

Another update, this time with pictures!
I've done some more modelling on my daemon prince. I'm really happy with how he's coming along.
I still need to sculpt around the head to fit it to the neck, and re-pose the sword arm a bit so it's not in front of his face. Then his top half is done, I'll just need to work on the bits underneath. I did some digging in my spawn bits and I found some jointed claw type things, I'll be modifying them to be lower limbs.
Speaking of spawn, some of their bits also came in handy for my daemon fiend.
I was part way through painting when I realised I really didn't like the front claws, so swapped them out. I need to cut down the joints to fit them to the body, and I'll probably sculpt some fur to cover the joins. The paint job is definitely still a wip, I need to do a bunch more shading and hilighting (and touching up), but I'm really happy with how it's coming so far.
I've also started working on some spawn, but no pictures of them because all I'd be able to show you would be some black paint. And I'm pretty sure we all know what black paint looks like.

Yep, it's a Grey Knight sword. There's quite a story as to how it got there, I'll definitely be sharing it.
Thanks I know the fiend isn't a very popular model, but I'm having a lot of fun with it.
And as for someone being colourblind... I'm sure they would find black paint about as interesting as anyone else. Side note, I met a colourblind illustrator when I was a child. From what I could remember, everything he saw was in varying shades of green. He did some amazing colour work.
Just a quick update tonight.
I finally got another model finished. It's been a while coming, I've gotten really bogged down with modelling lately.
Say hi to Prancer (more pics in the gallery).
I’m really proud of him, I can definitely see my improvements as a painter here. I tried putting gloss varnish over the bits of exposed muscle tissue and I’m super happy with the end result. I also really like the way I based him (even if I had to drill into the rock to pin him down and spent the whole time paranoid that I would snap the drill bit).
Only one more possessed to go, eeep!

If you think Prancer wants a hug, Nashbashem, just wait until you see my last possessed. Spoiler: His name is Cuddles.
Speaking of fiends, I got mine finished. There are quite a few more pictures in my gallery for those interested.
I'm pretty happy with how it came out, even if I did have a heart stopping moment when I dropped the near-finished mini in a puddle of bright orange paint
And a daemonette I finished a while ago but didn't get around to photographing.
Sorry the pictures aren't super great, I'm planning on getting a new camera soon.

Thanks LoneLictor. That was the first time I tried to do a flesh tone, and I'm really happy with it came out. And thanks Nashbashem, I wanted to do something a little bit interesting with the fiend, and I thought oozing suited the spiked tail. My fluff is that it is some sort of highly addictive drug it's leaving behind. My boyfriend suggested I model a terrain piece with a cultist crawling around licking it up off the ground, I might just do that at some point. I'm also considering getting another fiend, and doing it with really dark skin and pink fur for a bit of contrast. One other thing I noticed is that I've modelled this one with the back legs facing the opposite way to how the legs go on the GW studio models. Personally, I think mine looks better
Long time, no update. Sorry about that. Work has been kicking me in the ass and I've been sick, so modelling time has been hard to come by. In some good news, I did end up getting myself a new camera as I've only been using a phone camera to photograph my models up until now. I'm still working out the best place to shoot and how to use it well, but it's been so much fun. Photography is one of those things I've always been interested in but haven't ever done a lot with and hopefully this will change that.
Here are a few pictures of the most recent daemonette I've been working on (after I took the photos, I noticed I need to touch up the rim of the base, so just ignore that )
I've also got some WIP shots of the chaos spawn model I've been working on.
I didn't really have a plan when I started painting this one, so I've been making it up as I go along. I'm pretty happy with how it's coming. The spawn have actually proved pretty challenging to put together in terms of making things that look like one creature but don't look too much like any other models and still suitably chaotic. Any comments or feedback on what I have so far would be much appreciated.
Wrapping up, today was payday so I made a ForgeWorld order to celebrate. Relevant to this thread, I'm getting an Emperor's Children sonic dreadnought. In less relevant news, I'm also getting a five man squad of Heresy era Iron Armour, a Heresy era apothecary and a few other bits to make a display force of Iron Warriors. If there's interest I'll post some WIP stuff in this thread, if not I may start another or just post them in showcase when I'm done. This is definitely not going to be any sort of playable force, I just want a break from pink and purple.

I couldn't mind in the slightest, I picked up the idea from other people as well. And I appreciate you taking the time to check my stuff out.
I like the fiend (nice save by the way) and this spawn, grisly, like a spawn should be.
The pallid fleshy pink works well with them and helps tie them with the rest of the force nicely.
As for the Iron warriors, why not do both?

n0t_u - forums like this are really great for sharing ideas. I may well just put the IW in this thread as they aren't going to be an ongoing thing.
Nashbashem: Well, like I said in the wall of text, I've got a pretty big Forgeworld order on the way, so I'll be working on that when it comes. A small squad of Heresy-era Iron Warriors (I need a break from pink and purple) and a sonic dreadnought.
I've been working on stuff, I promise! But it's mostly been modelling stuff so I haven't had a lot to show. I've done quite a bit of work on my daemon prince, as well as assembling two more spawn. I also started painting my last possessed, but apparently I forgot how to paint pink armour because it's looking terrible. I'm hoping to get some painting done tonight, so hopefully I will have some pretty pictures soon.

And now... it's time for another update. Our guests this time - chaos spawn.
First up, Gambler. I'm calling him done for now, I'm still not completely satisfied but I don't want to do any more. I sort of want to do something extra with the base, but I can't think of anything that would work thematically. Suggestions?
Next up is a WIP called Dancer. This is the most heavily converted spawn out of the lot, so it was a lot of fun. It was also nice to not have to deal with any more of those webbed feet that don't actually fit on the base (see Gambler above). The smaller claws are actually the ones I took off my fiend.
The next WIP I'm calling Pants because I can't think of a better name, I'm definitely open to suggestions on that.
The last WIP spawn is definitely my favourite, this one is called Belle. I spent so long trying to work out what sort of head would suit here, and I finally decided that the mouthy possessed head would look good. I was able to bits order one, but I didn't want to put off starting to paint until it got here so it's just headless for the time being.
Long update is long, but I hope you enjoy it. I'm still waiting on my ForgeWorld order, rest assured you'll hear about it when it comes

Gah! Apologies for taking so long between updates. The dreaded real life has been taking up valuable hobby time. Between coming down with a cold and needing to clean my house for an inspection I've barely even picked up a paintbrush. On to the good news, however, which comes to you in three parts.
Part 1: My ForgeWorld order arrived, everything is beautiful and the only thing that hurts is the bubble in the tip of the sword that came on my upgrade sprue. I've named my sonic dread Mortimer, here is his beautiful face:
I haven't started painting yet, but I'm certainly looking forward to it.
Also included in my order was the start of my Iron Warriors force. I've decided to start a new thread for these guys, as it's going to be an ongoing project rather than a side one as I originally thought. Check it here.
Part 2: In celebration of having a clean house, my boyfriend and I decided to shell out for a workbench to set up a permanent hobby space. It should be a nice change from the dining table we've been working at thus far. I also got myself an A3 cutting mat to replace the tiny A5 one I've been struggling with. It's helping a lot with productivity, and it's nice not to have to pack up all the hobby stuff whenever we have company
Part 3: I dropped in to my FLGS to pick up some paint and WARMACHINE STOLE MY IMAGINATION YOU GUYS. I'm starting a Cryx faction and having so much fun with it. As much as I love the GW IP, it's been nice to get a change of pace. Their affordability compared with GW is also a pretty big bonus. I'm also putting these guys in their own thread, here.
This thread might get a bit quieter than usual as I take a break from all the pink, but I'm still working on my deamons. I finally got the head I need to finish my last spawn, and I'm still modelling the daemon prince. If you feel so inclined, please check out my other project threads

Lovely models you have here. I like the idea of corrupted plantlife on your bases and your possessed.
But you might want to consider thinning down your paints a little bit more. The lighter colors look a little bit thick and chalky on your earlier pictures. If you water down your paints you may need two mor more coats but you can do a little bit of blending and get a smoother finish.
I'm looking forward to see what your sonic dread will look like.
My force is a very noise marine themed one and i might consider getting one myself.

Back with an update and a new mini project. I dropped into my local GW for paint and found out that it’s the shop birthday next weekend. One of the events is a painting/conversion competition for space marine scout squads, followed by what I gather to be a variation of Space Hulk (all of the scout squads face off, with special rules based off their conversions). my boyfriend picked up a regular squad, I got a sniper squad. I’m doing Slaaneshii conversions because der, and kitting them for close combat. Below are my current WIPs.
I’m not… super happy with them. My favourites are probably the one with the chainsword (squad leader) and the one with the alternate legs. I still have no idea what I’m going to do with the crouching one. The paint scheme will basically be as with what I’ve done in the top image, it really only has details to go.
I’m really struggling with this project, so any and all input will be greatly appreciated.
Side note, I also have a tumblr where I post about miniature painting and what I'm up to hobby-wise, it's a bit more varied than what I put here and it gets updated a lot more frequently. It's lennehammer.tumblr.com for anyone interested.
