Just a random idea that popped into my head last night that expands the rules for dozer blades a little.
Dozer Blades
Vehicles equipped with dozer blades can re-roll failed Difficult Terrain tests. In addition, after making a successful Difficult Terrain test and moving through an area of Difficult Terrain, the area of Difficult Terrain passed through by the vehicle is now considered clear terrain. Remove any trees, rocks, etc, that lay in the path of the vehicle, making a path through the Difficult Terrain as wide as the vehicles hull and as long as the distance traveled. Mark the path by any suitable means (felt, dice, coins, etc) so that the path is clearly marked. Any vehicles traveling through the cleared path that are the same width or smaller will not have to take a Difficult Terrain test.

It's a good idea, but I'd saying considering that there's a relatively low probability of failing a vehicle dangerous terrain test that it wouldn't have any effect on the game.

Once upon a time they did this. It was a huge pain in the bottom.
What do you do when a tank cuts a swath through a piece of forest terrain? mark it with some dice or paper or something. What do you do when a tank ploughs through part of a ruin and doesn't even fit in the space where it's ended up?
Not to mention, you need to define exactly what terrain this works on - it shouldn't work on lava, swamp, river, etc, etc

Yeah, wasn't thinking about all the different terrain types. When it popped into my head I was envisioning a tank clearing a path through a section of woods.
So maybe it should be worded along the lines of "In addition, after making a successful Difficult Terrain test and moving through an area of Difficult Terrain that is woods, ruins, obstacles, or rocks (and similar terrain like jungles), the area of Difficult Terrain passed through by the vehicle is now considered clear terrain."
Also, it should probably count as clear for all models that travel down the path, not just vehicles.

But surely a land raider going through woods would clear a path just as well as a rhino with a dozer blade? anything that big would carve a path out.

Hi all.
Well you could write rules like this.
Dozer Blades. Counts light woods and rubble terain features as open ground.
Any model following directly behind the model equipped with Dozer blades counts as moving in open ground as well, IF its base-hull is narrower than the model with Dozer Blades.

It just creates constant wobbly model syndrome. Where do you put a tank that's half way through the wood or a building?

Where do you put them currently?

I was a combat engineer, the ONLY reason modern armies use dozer equipped tanks is to tear down enemy obstacles. Push through tank traps and berms, fill in trenches, etc. We usually combine it in a vehicle with a massive demolition gun (Demolisher equivalent) to take out fortified bunkers. I never bother to pay the points for one in 40k

The kind of ideas used in this sound like they could be used in Rogue Trader.
I still play that with my friends sometimes because it's very customizable, sort of an RPG adventure.
(Well, that's originally what it was made to be like.)
