Hello to all the foks on Dakka...
We are a couple that are basically new to minis... we started with 2 sets of AOBR to paint together, and are learnig to play as well... there is no group locally so we drive a while to get to the town where there are 40K gamers, and they play others too... we are interested in Warmachine as well, as it looks like afu skrmish type game that would be easier to play at home in limited space... and can be played for less $ and with less models than GW seems to take... hoping to find some gamers in the Yakima WA area... Tri-Cities is a ways to go to play.
I have read a bit on Dakka and decided to join... hope to be able to contribute more than just Q's someday....
Happy Hobbying,
Axel's Folks

Stay confident and do a bit of Google map searching for hobby stores in the area. Failiing that, attempt to gather the local brats for some gaming and see what of the crop are good players and bad ones.

Welcome to Dakkadakka, Warmachine does need less models, but they are quite expensive. You could look into Infinity, it seems to take a very small amount of models and most reviewer say it's a great game. I've never tried it though. I'm sure Alpharius could tell you much more about it.

Yeah, fun is never cheap.
But, you start with the battle group box, and the Prime MKII book can be had in soft cover. You can get the 2010 card deck and marker set, and army book, and additional units... but to play you can start with less... 40K we needed figures, templates, etc...etc.. the AOBR boxed set came with everything to get you started..... NOT, we still needed a codex before we could really play..... from what I've been told... you can play Warmachine with just a battlegroup and the main rules... about 60-80 bucks to start, then add a little at a time... 40K we got AOBR for 70, and had to get a codex.... 2x $30.... then needed more to make a standard army from the Force Org. Chart... so we started with 2x AOBR, 2x codex books, and a few extra ORKS to make them both 1000pts.....over 200 bucks fo sure..... NOT COMPLAINING, the stuff isn't too expensive, the $$$ is just worth less.....LOL .... inflation ....... right......
even getting the 2010 decks, and 2x battle groups, and the counter sets, and army books and Prime MKII ( we just have the little 40K book, the big one is 60+) you're at about 200 and have everything you'd need to play and start building up your force.....really , Prime II and 2x battle groups and you could get going... so it's a wash.... I/WE just think that even having forked over the cash for the 40K stuff.... we could get Warmachine painted and going before ALL THOSE BOYZ ever get done LOL
Thanks again to those that make Dakka great!!!!!!
And to the one who suggested looking up game stores, there are none in my town that carry 40K anymore, one will still order for us and are open to us coming in to game if we can get the peeps... there used to be a group there weekly... our town is small, and there just doesn't seem to be the people around, or the networking for them to hook up to game....
I found a post in the find a game section, of a fellow gamer trying to hook up with other locals, I posted but haven't heard back....
So, we go on any Sunday we can, about 1.5hrs drive to Adventures Underground... it's a book/game store, they have a good group there playing a # of mini games, and so far we enjoy it.... just looking for something more steady/weekly, and closer to home...
Hello to all, may the dice always roll the way you weighted them to....LOL or just 6's...... or just not snake eyes....LOL
Peace

Welcome to the group.
I started out playing Warhammer Fantasy with my wife and the GW hobby grew from there.
40K can be played in smaller battles if you like 500-1000points. Our local gaming store is doing an esclation league and I believe they started out with a few hundred points and it grows every few weeks.
There are quite a few Washington players on another forum (worldworksgames). I will check and see if any are in your area.
If you are intersted in using 40K minis for a skirmish game. I can point you in a direction.

if you down in the Yak.. i know it's quite a drive, but downtown spokane, there is a LGS called merlyn's , in fact they have 1850pt M tourment the 22nd of Aug, ALL day event, 3 battles, entry fee.. maybe too much too early but if you can afford the trip, i know people can hang and watch, lots to look at and people to talk to.

Actually, the price tends to be about the same per model on average. Troops are the same as their metal counterparts (Sternguard @ $35 vs. Precursor Knights @ 35.99, Bastions @ 44.99 vs. Terminators @ $50)), although cavalry will set you back rather heavily, and 'Jacks are considerably cheaper than their 40k counterparts (Dreadnought @ 44.50 vs. Plastic Heavy Kit @ @ 34.99). Compare GW's site and the pre-discount prices here. Anyway, welcome to the site! If you've got any Warmachine questions, we're tucked away near the bottom of the page.

Thanks again peeps....
I'm currently working on building a Land Raider Crusader/Redeemer.... which should I build and what armaments/options? I'm thinking Crusader + multimelta and I'm not sure what else...
I have a Razorback that I can use as that or a rhino...
and my Termies are the shooty ones, so I'm thinking about making It a heavy choice, the Crusader.... then I can use it for a Tac Sqd....
Any advice for a noob fighting Tau with lots of suits?
Thanks again Dakka....

Welcome, both of you. Dakka just got a "store finder" function that might help you out for venues. It's just getting started and it's being programmed by the user base so the stores in your area might not be up yet, but it lists a lot of stores, and describes what they offer/cater to.

Still here... There are no stores in Yakima currently...
We make trips to Tri-Cities when we can, on Sundays
Hoping to try and visit Seattle Area stores or ones in Spokane when we end up there...
Thanks again to all on Dakka...
I have a youtube video under the same screenname, let me know what you think, I'm going to post a thread for army list and one in Warmachine too as we are ordering MKII and a pair of Battle Boxes as soon as we can pick Cygnar's rival....
I'm at 1500 with the SM, working towards 2000-2500 Mech...
ORKS are to 1000, and growing to 1500 soon...
Thanks again for the warm welcome to Dakka
