So i was at football practice yesterday and we were doing a hitting drill. It was my turn to get hit, but by one of the biggeest men on the team. His helmet hit my hand and his buckles tore of my pinkey nail and a piece of my pinkey.

In a seperate incident the SAME DAY, We were running plays and i tackled the ball carrier, only to break three fingers on the same hand.

I Know, i have awesome luck.

A. Buy some gloves. Doesn't matter how tough your hands are, there are too many ways your hands can get mangled up. B. What position do you play? C. How long are you going to be out of the action.


In my Sophmore year my left knee was hyper-extended and sprained in the same play. I was really lucky I didn't tear my ACL or MCL.

I did however knock a guy out my senior year. I also fractured some other guy's elbow.

I once dinged my head on a car bonnet and got a rather nasty cut.

That was... what, five or six years ago? I'm ridiculously cautious and never climbed trees or anything like that.

When I was station at Fort Bragg, NC as a Military Policeman back in the 1990s I was reporting to a shots fired call in 82nd country. When I arrived two drunk soldiers were shooting from their third floor barracks room with handguns and high powered rifles. My car came around the corner and they started to light it up. Jumping out of the car and getting behind the engine block my partner and I started to return fire.

As I started to move to the trunk to get out shotguns a round bounced off a wall and hit me in the back of my shoulder. The cheap, recycled bulletproof vests they issued me only slowed the round and it went into my shoulder. The force of the hit threw me into the passenger door and the trama plate broke the window. It burnt and hurt like nothing else. Oh well, those two had the fastest court marshall I have ever seen, 24 hours from arrest to Fort Leavenworth.

Never want to get shot again.

I got gloves. The metal on his chin strap buckle ripped right through them.( They were kinda crappy anyway)

I play O-line and D-line

Well the trainer said that maybe a week then after that i could tape them together, but my head coach wants me not to miss any time(I'm a starting senior) and he wants to use me as an example of having some toughness for all the underclassman

When I was 7, I was climbing an Ice-slicked tree in the dead of winter. I, being a proud Icelander, and disdainful of Virginia winters, was wearing nothing but a t-shirt, some jeans, and a smile. I reached about 10 feet up, fell, turned in mid air, and hit some ice on the sidewalk elbow first. The way I was positioned drove my fist into my gut with the force of the impact. I heard a huge crack, and since I was too busy hissing in pain so bad I could barely open my eyes, I assumed it was the ice. I went inside, fell asleep, and 4 days later we went to the doctor. Broke my arm, and there were fractures running through my forearm.

The worst part, other than the months in a cast and the slippery doctor who cut open my arm while removing the hard plastic cast with a saw, was that the day after this happened, my parents wanted me to take some pictures of me holding my brother, and wouldn't listen when I told them that holding him hurt more than anything I could remember. Gritted my teeth and smiled for the camera though.

I wonder if hitting a wall and passing through the vest might have made it worse than if it passed right through you. Its unfortunate that, I'm totally guessing here, that wasn't considered action in warfare. You may have stopped something by showing up that could have gotten very nasty, which is service just like serving in a war, in my opinion.

Worst I ever had was a broken finger sustained by, get this, chasing a cat. I believe the cat was laughing at me while I was rolling around in pain.

Hmm, it seems like your coach is really oldschool (i.e. you better be dead if you're missing practice).

I had a lot of success with Cutters brand gloves. Padded and they're made tougher than some of the big brands (Nike etc.)

Good to see a fellow trench minder. I was a NT, DT, OG & OT. The carnage of the piles was intense!

Ruptured my anterior cruciate ligament and tore my medial ligament playing football (soccer for our colonial chums) for my former regimental football team.

Ended up with a knee replacement and more or less a year of rehab.

Well I have had some nasty ones
When I was 5 I was crawling around a construction site went through a hole in a foundation and got up to soon and whacked my head on a hunk of rebar hanging down in the hole 4 stitches .
When I was 6 got my foot ran over by a delivery truck
When I was 8 while climbing a cyclone fence stuck my hand on the pointy bit on top 7 stitches I can still see the scar from this one
When I was 12 or 13 was climbing a mountain with some snow still on it got to the top and while coming down slipped on the ice covering the snow and slid down the mountain feet first forked a tree but luckily hit the inner thigh and not the important bits

Playing hockey got charged (hit from behind, big no-no) and my knee hyperextended.

Sprained my ACL and tore my MCL, 2 months in crutches and 16 weeks of PT..... That sucked, hard.

Playing American Football for my Uni, ruptured my ACL in my left knee, as well as damaging my MCL, damaging the cartilage and eventually also needing a bone graft. Fun operation! Learning to walk again is great fun. Not.

Recently, been playing hurt on a bursa in my other knee. Also twisted that knee two weeks ago at training and then hurt the same knee again in our match at the weekend. Only one more match for me this season though, so I should get through the year for once...

Also, I agree about Cutters gloves. I love mine.

A metal steak through the bottom of my bare foot into the bone.

I broke my left arm 3 times. Also snapped my knee outta place when I was five or six.

Golden Eye Scout's mom made me a pink eye scout.

yeah that sucks, once you blow out your knee theres really no coming back from that kind of an injury which really sucks.

My orthopedic surgeon said if I didnt stop playing hockey after my second knee injury and hurt it a third time i probably wouldnt be able to walk or run properly...

Kind of ended my hockey days.

I sprained my ankle really badly chasing a frisbee. According to the doctor, running downhill in sandals on uneven ground that's covered in pine needles is a good way to hurt yourself.

Anyway, it hurt like eight bitches in a bitch boat.

Broke my finger on an electric drill once.

My worst is definitely getting attacked by a large group of chavs about 8 years ago while out drinking. Split eyebrow, cracked eye socket (still fragile, cant play rugby or contact sports), broken nose and a few cracked ribs.

Not the best night out I've ever had.

More comedy? Well I asked my mate to pass me a claw hammer, genius threw it to... Cracking pain in my head and when I reached up to rub where it hit I gripped a handle!

I was helping out a farrier fit some horse shoe.
Stallion decided it didn't like the look of me and gave me both barrels. I got hit square in the chest, but miraculously I didn't break anything, just my pinky on landing.

When I was about 2 or 3, I got my finger cut off by a lawn chair which had some metal bits. I guess I had my hand in there and I closed it, and *whoosh* there goes my finger.


The silver linings are that that it got reattached and that it's a good story to tell to girls.

Though the finger looks a little weird though at closer inspection but from a farther distance it looks fine.

Other than that I've been fine.

While I was fixing a VCR, I leaned a bit too far and popped my knee cap out of place. When I hit the ground it popped back into place and took a lot of cartilage with it. Doc said I could get a cartilage graft done, a knee replacement, or I could suck it up.

I chose to suck it up and I regret it at times. It'll catch and burns like hell.

Hmm, got a big old scar on my leg from a water fight with my dad when I was about 7 or 8, fell over a metal stake in the garden. Big chunk missing just below that from walking into a support strut at work a few years back. Another smaller chunk missing above that from falling over in the shower last year. That fall also gave me a scar on one eyebrow and another on the opposite temple. A couple of days later had to leave work and go to the hospital as I was feeling a tad strange and still had a hole in my head I could poke the tip of my pinkie in. Oh, and spent 6 months flat on my back in the med centre after fething my knees up in basic, still not right 20 years later. Managed to avoid breaking any bones though

Age 5 or 6, swimming lessons.

You get 5 mins of playtime after the lesson, I go down a metal go glide, edge appears to be sharp, kid pushed me sideways, head slides down the side.

Bloodbath in every sense of the word, 36 stitches, gaping headwound.

Still have a big scar running from my left temple down to about nose level.

When I was five I was running around my house, chasing my brother, and I hit the left side of my head, right above my eye, on the corner of this wooden counter.

I passed after I fell onto the kitchen tile about a minute after.

Fun fact, my mom thought I was faking and didn't see the blood, and let me lay there for 5-6 minutes.

Around 9 stitches, apparently, it caused me to suffer memory loss the doctor said, as I can't remember anything before that, sans the incident.

I was shot by a stray bullet in a ghetto of chicago, went through the fleshy part of my arm, in and out.

God, that hurt like a bitch.

I never liked Cutters, but then I always gravitated towards receiver gloves.

As far as inuries go: I tore my ACL during my Freshman year of high school.

I currently have a hamstring injury. Haven't been able to run for about 4 months now. I lost my uber-marathon fitness. It's not especially serious, just making me miserable.

I once tripped over and bit through my tongue. Had to get it stiched back on.
