Are there any Tyranid Characters worth using? So far I have created a Parasite of Mortrex, but I want to know if any others are more useful than him. Also if you know anything about Tau I would like to know if broadside suits are better than the sniper drones.

Doom is alright unless the opponent is hiding in metal boxes!

Swarmlord is killer but you'll have to dump a lot of points for him.

Deathleaper is fun to use I hear.

Old one eye is useless

Red Terror is gone

For Tau, Broadsides have a S10 Ap1 gun. thats miles ahead of sniper drones

I've heard about all of them and would like to know which would be preferable for a Tyranid army

A regular rant with lotsa devourers and whipguards. Seriously though they all have their uses.
Parasite – Fast synapse cheapest HQ.
Doom – soulsuckin pawnage, sadly sucseptable to ID.
Leaper – -2 LD on an enemy psyker? Yes please.
Swarmy – He's the new king of the playground, drop him on the table and watch how nothing dares get close.
It all depends on the rest of you'r list and what you need done.

I have a Parasite so im covered on his part but im looking between the other 3 Doom, Swarmlord, and Leaper at which ones would cover my gaunts the best while theyre moving through the board. i have many warriors for some sort of cover but would like a little bit of a relief zone

Parasite - not the best rules, and his points cost really hits hard.
He is however a fast HQ choice, but a flyrant is still miles better as an option instead.

Doom - Weird and hard to get used to using.
He will either cause untold damage, or die very quickly, depending on how smart the other player is.

Leaper - Great for playing with LD modifiers.
Mix it in with boneswords and some powers and you really can hunt down tough targets.
On his own though, dont expect much from him as he is still very fragile.

Old one eye - Pure gak really, loev the old model, but new rules and points for him make it useless.
Avoid at all costs.

Swarmlord - I take him most games.
Combat wise he is a pure beast, able to go toe to toe with some of the best characters in 40k.
He has a nice save and a not bad ++ save in combat, so he shouldnt die easily.
He can also cause instant death on pretty much any model due to LD changes.
Love the rules, love the model (the one i made anyway, dumbass GW)
Points are a bit on the high end, but still not too bad.

I quite like Red Terror, when i was playing CSM he used to do some fair damage to my tanks. he used to thwart any plans i had involving tank transport with its stupid deep strike.

Yeah, the Red Terror is a massive Ravener, more like a Carnifex than a Trygon. They don't have rules for him anymore, but he's mentioned in the fluff section. He used to be able to eat models whole, burrow and he hit pretty hard. I think the Mawloc is based on him.

Yup, GW has a bad habit of having certain options and characters, then removing them from the game (Like the Last Chancers)

and then they create certain options and characters and never include a model (still waiting on my Beastmen Monsters)

Well thats really something quite bad, he was a visualy stunning model in my opinion, made of full metal too.

Well they better bring out something good if they took out the red terror.

Meh, i support Eldar and we belive that the Tyranids deserve a weak death.

Im no Tyranid fan, i find most of the models look the same apart from a select few.

Its a special Zoan that can suck out the life of infantry around it and can have I think up to 10 wounds

problem is, its T4 I think so a krak missile will screw it good

Damn, id hate to be caught up with one of those.

They would be pretty useless against a heavily ranged army though.

Well I think it can take a drop pod so

But if you're inside a transport, it cant harm the troops

Should be -3 since the nominated character has to roll a D3 which its result would be 3 if the dice roll is 5+.
Good on any Non-Eldar Psyker. (damn their Runes of Witnessing), and it's not a psychic attack so it can't be nullified. Sweet.

I still have a 3rd ed nid codex somewhere...
All i remember was if he hit with all of his attacks you could decide not to roll to wound and pick an enemy in base comtact to remove from play as you went 'nomnomnom'

Red Terror has rules, they're on the GW website if you dig enough.

He's not in the official codex, so no Tourny play, but you can use the rules on the website in friendly games if your opponent agrees. He's quite fun actually.

Update/Edit:
Ok apparently they took his IC special rules down and can now be used as another Ravener. So if you want to make one or a whole brood look different then everyone else's, he's a choice. I know I have the PDF some where of his old rules, I'll have to look and see if I can find it.

He used to be a beast and could move like 9" or something crazy. He was an awesome fast attack choice.

Anywho, laters~

I would personaly use a winged hive tyrant due to the fact it can get into cc very quickly. They can be made by making some wings and just modelling onto a gw hive tyrant.

Well, I'll start with the list of reasons not to use wings, BS4 Str 8 Ap 3 will auto wound you 5/12 times............ need any more?

Wings used to be good, because you could still take warp.
