Hi, sorry to point this out but be prepared to loose quite a lot for a while because Necrons are not an easy army to play with in 5th as they are not particularly good army (they are hopefully getting an update in the next year). Anyway good luck

Welcome to Dakka, and the hobby in general.
As far as advice goes for necrons... Monoliths or destroyers - all your heavy slots should be destroyers or monoliths.
Also, take a minimum on troops (2 10-man warrior squads) and keep them near a lord with res orb.

Welcome! Try not be discouraged when starting Necrons. I find that destroyers are a cheap(points wise) way to get a lot of fast moving fire power and can be fairly versatile.

Welcome to Dakka. imo, you really need at least two Necron Lords, both equipped with Resurrection Orbs & Warscythes (should the enemy come too close, you should still have a chance). Have one of them mounted in a Destroyer, and surround him with Heavy Destroyers, or at least normal ones, and the other Necron Lord on foot surrounded with warriors. Add some monoliths into the mix, and that should be a reasonable sized army for you to play.  Also buy a codex if you haven't already; this contains all the rules for your army. Please avoid caps lock here. Thanks. Because that would be...
