Currently i run 2 Broadsides, 1 with twin-linked Plasmas, team leader, bonding knife, multi tracker and drone controller, (2 shields), the other with multi tracker, coming in at 200pts.
What do people think about ASS? is it worth an extra 20 points upgrading these guys so they can move 3-4" a turn?

God I still cant find my Tau codex so this is more then a bit foggy. Is that the upgrade that allows them to be slow and purposeful (IE relentless) if so then yes. So you have to roll a d6 for movement, but you can still fire your railguns. And a poor movement isnt sobad, those things can shoot pretty damn far.
If not, then refresh me since I cant remember lol

Yes, it gives them the Slow and Purposeful USR. I'll borrow something Day[9] said: "spend out of game resources to save ingame ones." Proper deployment and foresight are things you gain with experience, and can mean your heavy weapons never have to reposition. I think the points are better spent else where.

I think that is a little short sighted. In Dawn of War deployment, your broadsides can't fire the first turn if they don't have ASS. Also being able to shuffle a little to the right or left can make the difference in weather or not an enemy get a cover save or your broadsides get assaulted.

ASS is so worth it that it's almost mandatory. Any good player will try to keep his valuable stuff out of los from the Broadsides and you need to be able to regain los by walking a bit. I've tried the PR+MT setup as well but rarely liked it.

And I would say it is Worth it, that way they can actually move that little bit needed. Although personally I choose Targets Arrays over them in friendlies. Also I was never a fan of the Plasma rifle on broadsides.

without AdvSS you're broadsides can't fire on the first turn in 1/3 of all your games (Dawn of War Deployment). Considering a great many armies will be in your face on turn 2, you can't afford to have your railguns shut down because they needed to walk onto the board.

1. there is a multitracker on the second shas'ui. 'the other one has a multitracker'.
2. Also, with plasma rifles, at least you can do SOMETHING when you move onto the board (roast a couple of MEQ's?). Also, i pretty much give up the ghost with DoW deployment. i have had very little success, as you just can't gret enough guns to bear in time. i'm looking at you, nobz bikers.

Everybody saying DOW deployment requires ASS isn't paying attention, what is within 36" of your broadsides that you could shoot anyway? Nob bikers? yeah 2-3 shots vs 3++ with 1/4 missing is MAYBE 1 kill.
Don't bother with ASS, I've done a lot of playtesting between ASS and targeting arrays. The targeting array will almost always guarantee you at least hit (88%) and in DOW you should be moving on and running to get proper firing position anyway.
As for "hiding" important stuff, let your opponent do that. There is very little that can hide from 72" range and affect the outcome of a game. Unless you're on a terrible board with tons of LOS blocking terrain you shouldn't have trouble finding something good to shoot at really.

The ASS doesn't impress me. a 1/3 chance of being useful isn't worth it. This is why we use Hammerheads with Multitrackers. They are the Mobile Railguns. The Broadsides are suppost to find a a nice vantage point( or in DoW, any piece of high terrain) and snipe things like the guy we all hate in MW2.
