Who doesn't love an underdog? Be it in films, books, comic books... hell, even real life, there's something about the little guys that just inspires us and makes us root for 'em.

And who embodies "the underdog" in Warhammer 40,000 better than those plucky, plucky gretchin?

I've always had a love of the little greenskins, and the idea for a gretchin army has been a long time brewing. I've always been a greenskin man, and so collected orks for a while. But a friend and I... we always bandied about the idea of a purely grot force. My friend's name for said force? "The Grot Liberation Front". Now, granted, the primary reason for my friend going for this idea was because of his love of history, particularly the Russian Revolution and all its surrounding history, but there was something about the idea that always tickled my fancy. I mean, imagine the randomness and unpredictability of a 40k ork army... but multiplied ten-fold. That was a fun prospect.
However, as I got further on with my education, I unfortunately found my Warhammer getting left to one side, a travesty I know... but unfortunately, such was the case. And so my models were left untouched for a good few years.

BUT... I now find myself on a gap year, and as I sorted through a lot of the things in my room recently, I found them. My ork models. And sprues. Lots of leftover sprues... And something suddenly clicked in my brain.

"I want to get back into the hobby I loved so much." I thought.

And so, with that thought in mind, I immediately began thinking of options. As much as I adore my beloved orks, I thought the time had come for something new. However, I didn't want to stray too far from my greenskin roots. And then... well, I'll merely say the name "CommissarKhaine". If you haven't seen his thread "A Squeaky WAAAAGH!!!!", I can highly recommend it. It's full of imaginative conversions and lots of character. A great army.
And as soon as I read that thread... I knew what to do. I was going to create the army my friend and I imagined when we were younger. It would be fun, it would be exciting, it would (hopefully) be characterful, it would provide some wonderful conversion opportunities (I'm going to try and convert every single model of the army), and the grot models themselves are fairly cheap (by Games Workshop standards anyway...) which is perfect for someone just out of school like myself.

All of which is a long winded explanation for why I'm starting this thread and joining Dakka. I want to share my journey back into Warhammer with you. I have also never played a "proper" game of Warhammer 40,000 before, so I hope to be able to do that when my army is in a playable state. I warn you, progress will probably be quite slow as I am quite busy earning money for next year at the moment... and I need to get a proper camera as well... but I hope you enjoy seeing the progress I do make, and I look forward to being able to share everything with you.

Stay well.

Edward.

Thanks for the welcomes! Much appreciated. It's crazy, as I've often seen you guys on other threads I've looked at. Crazy I tell you!

Just a small update... I've purchased myself a couple of boxes of Grots with the meagre earnings from my temporary job, so I'll begin working on those hopefully soon, time permitting. But I also need to get a decent camera... I don't want to put up any blurry pictures where you can't see any detail. Having seen lots of threads where this can happen, I know it can sometimes be frustrating... so I'll work on getting a camera that does the job, so I can start sharing things with you as soon as possible.

Again, thanks for the welcomes. I'm proud to be a dakkaite.

Stay well.

Edward.

Hey all!

So the reason there have been no updates... my internet is down. Well, actually, my whole computer doesn't work. Argh. So, I'm looking into getting a new one (or fixing whatever's the matter with this one). But once I do have everything up and working, I can promise you... actual models! Yes, 'tis true. I have been doing a lot of modelling, including but not limited to...

Grots
Grot kommandos
Cyboars
A squiggoth
And last, but certainly not least... the leader of the revolution is coming...

I am thoroughly enjoying being back in the hobby I enjoyed so much, and I look forward to sharing it all with you.
And now I must depart, as I am typing this in secret on my work computer.

Stay well.

Edward.

Hello!

Long, long, long time no speak, for which I apologise. My reasons for not having posted in a while are many, but can all be boiled down to one, very simple fact: my internet died.

However, the fires have been put out, the madness has been hushed, and the chaos running rampant in the streets has ended. We are back online. However, I am very sorry for not having posted in ages. I hope to make up for it soon by posting my first photos. Because, I may finally be purchasing a proper camera at the beginning of next year! I have to buy one anyway, for varioius filming projects and the like, so I figure now is the perfect time to begin photographing the models. So, hopefully, within the next few months, you'll start to see some activity...

So, what can I promise? Many, many models, a lot of conversions (everything down to each individual grot has been tinkered with to some extent) and quite a bit of fluff.

Again, I'm sorry for how long it has been and I hope to do y'all proud very soon.

In the meantime, stay well, and I hope as winter descends upon us, that you have a very, very Merry Christmas.

Edward.
