We all have our own methods and learning to incorporate other techniques can only improve us.

Probably not surprising how much I agree with the above sentiments Just another reason why I appreciate both your (and other Dakkites') efforts - even if I don't comment enough sometimes, or jump to conclusions when I do. Particularly putting up incomplete ideas. The end results are nice - but the journey, that is where it's at!

I actually grabbed that photo without realising what had been done to it, I just spotted a thumbnail that looked like a 2CV in orky colours Was even more impressed when I realised Orks had actually built it

My folks used to own one, it was pretty fun, felt like it would tip over on most corners, plus we had it at about the same time as 'For Your Eyes Only', so we had a Bond car, for probably the only time in my life

I'm convinced there's some kind of RC buggy kit that has a similar front end, including the mount for the spots, but I can't find it anywhere so maybe I'm just tripping.

Thanks guys, there may be a brief interval before any more updates though.

The marina froze over at the weekend, and as our water pipes run through the lake, they got frozen too. Before leaving for work this morning I turned a tap on so that if it did thaw it would keep running and hopefully I'd have water when I got home.

Could hear running water when I got back, so all seemed good, but as I got to my door I realised it didn't sound as though it was coming from just the bathroom pipe. Turns out I'd obviously turned the tap full on instead of just a tad, and when it thawed the volume of water was too much for the sink Bathroom, part of the hallway, and more importantly my workroom are all soaked. And the workroom floor was home to a lot of stuff atm, including a couple of IA books that hadn't made it back to the shelf yet :(

Just spending a few minutes preparing myself to clear out the rooms, rip up carpets etc, etc.

Ahh, the joys of living on the water

Ah well, best make a start I suppose.

Hope no-one else is getting fethed up by the weather (helped with a bit of carelessness ), no doubt I'll be updating later to bemoan whatever else has been ruined - think the WD collection and the bookcases are high enough to have not been badly affected.

Hey, thanks for the support guys.

Stopped work due to frustration, if I don't take a moment to calm down I'm just going to shout 'feth it' and start throwing stuff out the window. Without opening it first.

Doesn't look like I've lost anything major, all the completely ruined stuff seems to be old Military Modeller mags and the like, nothing that'll make me lose sleep. Siege of Vraks 2 & 3 got a bit of damage but I can accept that. Just glad the boat slopes, if the water had gone into the lounge I would have been crying at the books that would have been ruined there.

Frustrated due to the lack of anywhere else to put all the crap from the workroom floor - a fair bit was there as there was nowhere else to put it (pack-rats really shouldn't live in cramped condition ), and pretty much everything was in carboard boxes - they all seemed to fail their armour saves against water. I did manage to pile a gak load of stuff precariously in the cupboard, and then the electrics tripped out (probably due to having all lights and heaters on). And of course the fuse box is at the back of the afore-mentioned cupboard. Cue trying to move unstable boxes of sprues, models etc in the dark, and finding somewhere to put them in the dark. Crap now strewn all over the place? Check

Guess I won't be heading to work tomorrow, have to see if I can source a de-humidifier from somewhere, may cut the drying time down to a week or so, going to have to keep heating going 24/7 just to stop ice forming everywhere inside.

On the plus side I did remember there was an extension socket under a collapsed damp box, and turned it off before frying myself Oh and found a pair of trousers I have absolutely no recollection of.

Also, put a good strong fan at floor level, it'll help keep the air circulating, which will help the place 'dry out'.

If you can find some, there are products like "Damp Rid", which will help you as well.

Good luck! Let us know if we need to start a charity.

Potential fatalaties (some may survive, but not sure in what state) :

Codex Daemonhunters, Tyranids (the 2 previous editions), Space Wolves (old), Space Marines (current)
Barlowe's Guide to Fantasy
Modern Origami
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume 1
Preacher:Ancient History
Promethea Book 5
2 sketch pads (only 1 with a few bits in)
Various notepads, none seemed to hold vital info

Could have been a lot worse.
Place is a REAL mess now, I'm a bit cramped at my lounge table typing this due to all the crap I've had to dump in here. And there's a load I haven't been able to move yet, nowhere to go. Getting the carpet up in the workroom turned into a logistical nightmare. No room to move stuff too, nowhere to move the bookcases too, nowhere for the table to go (not that it could anyway, I put it together in there, it won't come out unless it's broken). So using a bit of orky know-how I shoved a bunch of hollow tubes (clingfilm rolls and the like) and some short posts under the part I had been able to get up - no underlay, just glued to the floor in that room for some reason. This seemed to work somewhat so I employed some more Orky ingenuity and....sliced the carpet down the middle - well, a bit off centre actually but you know. Peeled it apart and shoved some tubes, posts and assorted spacers down, and left a fan heater in the doorway. That should dry most of it out, and let me try to organise things a bit before tackling the parts that don't get fully dried.

End of Vent the Second. Which was not as bad as I thought it might be Although that has skimmed over a lot of the issues

So while attempting to rescue various bit from their sodden, collapsing boxes I came across some of my old minis, and thought I'd throw them up for a laugh.

The elf archer is one of my very first, I believe the actual first was a dwarf archer, same line, same pose, same colour except black or brown for the hair. The piper at the back is the type of thing I had to paint when I did a very brief stint working for the company that produced them. One broken pscho-hobbit which I'd tried to 40k up and an old bilbo from GW, couple of 15mm future cops, one larger future cop, one bloke who thinks he's JC Denton, one unknown alien (he used to have some kind of space-scooter) and the rest were mainly used for role-playing.

Heh, I can still vaguely remember the shop I started buying minis in, a place of mystery and excitement to me. It was in Colchester on a hill, after crossing a bridge I think, and if it was Colchester that would probably put me at about 8, which would make the archer about 2 years older than you

edit : Can add the previous IG codex to the list of potential fatalaties, and I forgot to mention about half-a-dozen paperbacks of no particular importance. Except I hate the loss of any book tbh.

qoute " that would probably put me at about 8, which would make the archer about 2 years older than you " lol and he looks better than i do too! i think i could use a fresh coat of paint and dehumidifing! or is the fumigating?

I also recieved my first mini aged 8 , me and a few kids , knicked a handfull from a lovely old model shop. , we then went on to steal Smelly rubbers ( erasers ) in the shape of the fall guy's truck ( 80's tv show) from morrisons , at which point we got knicked and duley spent the following 6 hours in a black miriah and a grungy prison , with inky fingers! my first and nearly last foray into the exciting world of underage shoplifting!
and i goy quite the wallop from my mum when she found out! ouch !
although with gw's prices i feel like there robbing me! now

monkey with a stick...monkey with a stick? You are not, my dear sir, refering to the mighty kobold mage 'nobloodywaycanirememberhisname' with that comment are you? I actually found several kobolds, must have been popular in our D&D games. Quite a few 15mm figs - fantasy and sci-fi, a few more that came from the cyber-punk range the dude in shades came from - including a biker which I keep meaning to do something with, several 25mm sci-fi infantry, a few pieces from board games, a half-painted rice crispies character , a few Judge Dredd-The Boardgame figs and other assortments. That was an interesting box to salvage

The redcoat reminds me that 'that dream job' may not be so after all. Painting figures in batches to a set particular pattern was horrendous.

Underage shoplifting? What age does it become legal now

Never shoplifted figures (lol, just noticed I've reverted to calling them figs rather than minis as I reminisce), but at one stage my primary source was a bookstore that had a huge box of figs that back then mainly came in bags. Bags would get broken, and if I happened to present some loose figures I'd 'found' floating around at the bottom of the box, the storekeeper would generally let me take those along with my purchases

Just out of interest, what exactly did Colt Sever's van smell of? (don't shoot me if I've spelt that wrong) I can well imagine wanting a fallguy truck rubber, but a smelly one? I'm trying, but I can't recall any stranger smelly rubber than that, all I can remember now were the foody ones that really made you want to eat the rubber

lol , come to think of it i think i mixed up smelly foody rubbers and cool Colt severs truck rubber , prob had both it was along time ago
and a vid link for all the youger dakkites , to see what you missed out on

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw-GP1D6cdo&feature=related

so the red painted mini reminds you of your uninspiring pro painter days , i think he could do with a wash though
underage shoplifting sounds like a new olympic stength sport , and the winner is....thrud the barbarian ! edging out conan and hercules to silver and bronze. ( although technically it means i dont have a criminal record yoink!
Figs , that could get confusing on ebay! i like minis , but i also like figs, which is better ..there is only one way to find out...

Monkey with a stick / monkey on a stick.. mokeytroll with a stick. that is never gonna get kob...old

Just realised Monkey was the original DaemonHunter - 'Hah, Demons!' That'd be a cool retinue to make sometime

So managed to move one rickety open-sided bookcase piled high with books and stuff, pull up carpet and replace bookcase without anything falling off. Well, except for the lamp that fell on my head right at the end. One side of the room drying out, just need to figure out what to do on the other side. Trying not to cut the carpet up anymore as I'd like to salvage it, but not sure I'll be able to. Need to go and get some tiles to replace the hall/galley carpet, but that's fine as I've been meaning to do that for a while now.

Thought I'd have a closer look at those old minis, I was right that archer is 2 years older than you weety Was surprised to see the swordsman and the halfling berserker were also GW, swordsman from '84 can't quite make out the date on the halfling, possibly '84 again.

Right, tea-break over, back to work.
