Oh is that the time? Hadn't realised it was so late

Although I was never really into orks back in the day I definitely enjoyed the character they had. Stuff like Paul Bonner's art, he had the smiling, pipe-smoking meks planning their next contraption down just right. That's the kind of feel I'd really like to create with my cyborks, so hearing that they do evoke some of the old-skool character makes my day (I'm hoping my blackberry wine translation gizmo had it's homebrew expansion fitted )

All looking really good, monkeytroll. I'm not sure which is greater, your modelling skill or your creativity.

Just wondering, would you mind giving a quick run-down of how you did the tracks for the GMS ork? I can see in the WIP pic it's plasticard, but anything you could tell me about the thickness to use or how you put it together would be great - I've been wanting to do tracks like that for my cyberdaemon plagebearers for a while but haven't managed to make anything which looks that good.

CodGod - can't tell you anything about thickness, I just have several different sheets lying around and use whichever feels best. My LGS doesn't mark them, or indeed sort them The tracks are really easy to make though, I was surprised at how well it went together considering I just started doing it, didn't plan it at all
Next time I make some I'll try to put a step-by-step up, but in the meantime:

Cut a strip of plasticard the width I want and a bit longer than I think I'll need,a slighter shorter strip same width and cut 2 lengths of tube I used for the main wheels.
Bend the strip around the tubes at about quarter the length down the strip from either end, so the ends of the strip overlap each other.
Glue the two tubes in place.
Trim the ends of the strip and glue together, using a small strip briging the join for strength, end to end is not a strong join
Hack at two bits of plasticard till they're a snug fit inside the 'track' - this stage would probably be best done earlier and glued into place along with the tubes, but I realised that as I sdid it
Cut slices off a smaller diameter tube for the running wheels.
Cut thin slices from the shorter strip and glue these onto the 'track' strip to represent the 'tread'.
Presto...

A bit hasty so may not be fully clear, but I will try to put pics up next one I make

As I'm here may as well show the changes made to the speedster design I was originally thinking of putting into Da Worky Races

One v old plastic orc, which I made back in the day and have given him a chainsaw arm, an old ork 'bolter' and then left him as he was for no other reason than pure whimsy and nostalgia. I don't mind having a real mix of models in there as I'd imagine Upzag & Grimsnik attract a wide variety of freaks, plus I can always claim it to be a product of the Dok's eksperimentz. The other guy had part of his back replaced with a power pack, a burna mask and iron jaw for a head, and a drill-bit for an arm.

These two are still tac'd atm as they need some gs work before assembling, hopefully I'll find some gubbins to cover up my gs skills. The big guys got the legs of an epic warhound with the feet chopped off and a toe-piece from kroot armour. Part of a power klaw made up his choppa hand and he's had a chunk of head replaced w part of a scope - that's gonna need some gs. Also needs some thing around the back waist, connections or power supply or something. His little friend is powered by an epic rhino(old-skool again - even if I haven't improved my skills too much over the years, I have at least improved my bitz box ) with exhausts from a chaos biker. Old-skool plastic orc arm and a sm power fist, and space for a bit of gs to fill.

The old cybork uni-cycle and 2 grots.

Ahh, didn't mention that, that is a warbuggy Driver will be sat at front with a gunner on a slightly higher seat at the rear.

There's the concept using the chimera front a few pages back but that's it for buggies so far I'm afraid, the others are still locked inside a small box somewhere in the left corner of my brain.

weety - well it did spark an idea for a diorama, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon

Ifalna - Thank you. Well I think the orks needed it more than the teeny imperium

Hadouken - See, you say that just after an update, plus I've started another blog and updated that since I last mentioned the matter

TR - Thanks man.

Arakasi - Thanks, I'd been thinking a splash of colour was needed to liven the thread up a bit. Now we'll return to monochrome service for a while
Well, you know when you've seen one suspension spring you've seen them all Once I'd switched out the back wheels for the single I felt it had a more rugged feel to it rather than just speedy, so it was a natural really. My meks prefered a simplified two axle system though. And you'll be pleased to hear it's starting to lose some of those clean lines

neil - cheers! The cabling's guitar strings, I have brass and steel, came in the same pack.

The cloud of smoke dispersed, Revealing Upzag's latest contraption hovering a few metres off the ground, albeit at rather an odd angle.
'Told ya those gravimetrix was fine,' he stated to Grudsnip, one of his loyal assistant meks. Looking up at the craft he raised his thumb at Eddy ZagZag, his latest test pilot.
'Hit it Zaggy'
At this, those orks who had been reappearing dived back into cover. Various missiles strapped around the the ramshackle framework Upzag had been calling 'Air Squig' burst into life, and ZagZag screamed in delight as he accelerated at a phenomenal rate....for about 100 metres.
Blithely ignoring the bits of wreckage bouncing around him Upzag turned to the cowering servo-grots behind him.
'Are ya sure ya removed ALL the warheads lads?'

'That's it grab 'is leg and pull...hmm..where's da rest of 'im den? Try under dere, no dat bit..dere we go. Revivin' juice Grudsnip. Right. Zaggy? Zaggy.Hello, dat was good dat was, you went dead fast. Well, maybe not a complete success, but it was good. Hmm? Your legs? Well, Grudsnip's got one..well, part of one..well, a foot. Nah don't worry, soon 'ave ya up in da air again. Yeah, for def'nite, I've got dis idea see....yeah, youse be lighter without dem big boots of yours, an' lighter means fasta dunnit?'

Skin and base need finishing, almost done.

CK - thanks, I know my concept 'sketches' can be a bit 'huh?' at times, even to me That's wht so many of them stay at that stage for a while (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it)

weety - cheers, this one actually seemed to move fairly quickly once it fell into place.

Suspencegrind - Thank you kindly sir.

GG - there's a touch of mudskipper there, I'll grant you that

Hadouken - (whistles patiently...)

And..shock, horror - another splash of colour, mainly to show how the gunner will look

It's the evolution of a mini from concept to reality that's part of the fun for me; glad I'm not alone

I like the colours on the buggy, and the gunner is looking good - maybe add some servitor-like 'upgrades'.

Oh indeed, I can while away days just playing with different bits to get the look that 'works', most enjoyable If I really force myself to build something the chances are that I'll have 'issues' with it afterwards - not that I don't now, but I can normally put those down to lazyness One of the things I find great about Dakka is the fact that I can look at the evolution, not just of my models, but other peoples as well, and getting ideas from seeing how others work. We all have our own methods and learning to incorporate other techniques can only improve us.

As for the gunner, not sure what's going on with his other arm yet. The driver was supposed to get a mass of 'mekka-dendrits' connecting with the buggy, but it got a bit messy and I think he'll only end up with 2 now. Was thinking maybe 2 or 3 for the gunner, with 1 or 2 connected to weapon/pedestal and one waving around. That would leave both driver and gunner basically the same configuration and still unsure if I like or dislike that fact.

Your stuff is so immaginative, that roadster has come on in leaps and bounds , it looks perfect now. But it is bugging me silly, because it reminds me of a car , probably a renault, but i cant find it anywhere on google. The front end mostly. The front wheel supension is a nice attention to detail as well. And Upzags latest contraption is decidedly dangerously good! Upzag even knicked the lamp off the post! when will we see that emerge i wonder, and as what.
