well if i take mine as a possible analogy for yours then i say a good way to come up with variants that way ouwl be by making different shoulder pads for starters...and shinpads as well...atfer that you have to see what other places you build where armor plates can be designed...also i would think about weapon arms... you could of course make all horsemen with two CCW arms but i think eight amrs done that way might be a bit much for you... might get boring^^

Keep in mind, the 40K building storey size is about 3 inches tall, think how it will look in terrain! I'm pretty sure 9" tall would get to ignore all cover saves, just because it is so tall. 6" seems about right, 2 storeys?

Good point Dave, thanks! I am going to make this with posable legs, so in theory, there maight be a farily wide range of heights possible. Scrunched down, or extended.

I have some copies of the claws done, and I am making some progress on the body, lots of details left to add.

I also got the sentinel legs I ordered. They are way to scrawny for this guy, even if I bulked them out considerably. But it will help with the design of the new legs, as a model for how it would work mechanically.

After I took this picture, I found one of my defiler heads...it is WAY too small for this guy! I will have to design something a lot bigger. I want the head "rotatable" to be able to pose it looking in different directions, so I am thinking just a ball on a post basically, and then a head with a hollowed out area for the ball to fit into. Or....make the head the ball, and just a post with a concave area to fit the ball onto...either way, I want it to be posable in different directions.

The legs are going to pose the biggest problem. I assume they will have to be pinned in the pose you want and glued in place, but building it in separate pieces to allow that will be tricky.

I'm basically just thinking out loud here, just a rambling on, so to speak. But feedback is appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

i would suggest you buy a set of lego bionicles to give you some ideas as to how to achieve the posing issues...could be helpful...a lot...

the claw...is it clawy and shooty? OMG... never thought of that for my own needs...

Yeah, the legs are going to be interesting to say the least! The caws are supposed to have heavy flamers in them, but just add an ammo belt, and presto! Heavy Bolter!

Most of the pens I get are from local merchants who give them away for free as advertizing.

Got a bit more done on the walker.

My focus for the build has shifted from something resembling a Decimator to a Steam-Powered Armored Walker. I can envision it being converted from the model I build to be similar to a Decimator, or to "count-as" a Leman Russ, or a Predator Tank, or maybe even for something from the Warmachine line. Or just a stand-alone war walker. Who knows! I think it will look pretty good though. I hope that when I cast the hull, I'll be able to make one cast hollow, and be able to cut the top away, to add/show the interior detail. Maybe have the one with interior detail as an option to purchase. I envision there being one pilot, low and in front in the hull, and a tank commander, who would sit above and behind the pilot. And the commander would be able to stand up, out of the hatch if desired, so they can wave their sword menacingly at the enemy.

So, here is the walker as of last night. (the defiler head is shown only for reference. It will not be a part of the final build.)

I am currently working on the should and hip ball-joints.

So, what do you think?

Exactly Dave! LOL!

Thanks Cap'n!

That picture reminded me though, of why I don't want to try to build a walker that could "count-as" a Leman Russ from the start...where would I put the cannon? On the shoulder? Maybe, but if someone wants to convert it for that purpose, that's on them!

I would put it as a two handed gun, Kind of like Brother Vicbraus?'s Missile launcher

a walking tank i think would always look nice... and by the way... that defiler head positioned as a kind of belt buckle looks good... you should maybe do that on your own too...

and that two handed maingun idea...

something like that would always look nice:

the pistons on the hips look very good...i think i should take your work more to heart for referrence on my own project^^

Vik is right, I think you could easily make a better looking belt buckle

Um....that's where the head is going to go!

You're probably teasing me.

Anyway, I am thinking of maybe building up some sort of "housing" for the pilot, that would stick out in front of the body somewhat. With either a view port, or a sensor array. I like the 2 hander gun idea! I'd have to re-work the fingers on the hands, but it's do-able. And shoulder-mounted heavy bolter sponsons! And a Hull-mounted heavy bolter below the pilot housing! I like!

hmmm actually i was not teasing... it is how i tackle projects everytime... go with the flow... i cant stick to concepts anyway^^ and i was like... well there could be the belt...yep... beside you mentioned a commander sticking his head out... so i imagined him rather looking out of the shoulder neck part than where your head actually you had planned...

maybe you make also a non clawy hand for the triggerhand? i mean you have earlier stated you wanted to do more than one version of this walker... like the hrosemen idea... and thus it could be ...well a khornish one with the clawhands for WAR and a more "hand" like hand for the other fellas...tho on second thought... all of the horsemen have a sort of ghoulish theme attached to them... so a clawlike or skeleton hand would always be on theme...

the whole compartment issue is still giving me the confusing look...i would need a mockup or something to help me stay in line of your thoughts pattern here... i like the idea but it is rather a long way away form your first sketch i would say... so how and with what you want to do that? and for that matter where?... not questioning the idea but that makes me rather edgy for new updates mate! gimmy, gimmy, gimmy^^

A Mock-up! Yes! That is exactly what is needed Vik! Thanks! I mean, I can see it in my mind's eye much better then I can explain it, and I can mock it up almost as good as I can see it.

(sorry for the "Frankein-walker"! It's not easy to do this in MS Paint! )

So, the bottle cap that was next to the walker in the previous picture is going to be the feet, as shown in the mock-up. I envision a "cab" like compartment coming off the front, for the pilot, with space for guns or sensors of some kind to be mounted. And the hatch for the commander is on top. Looking at the mock-up, the legs might need to be longer, taking the height to somewhere around 6-1/2 inches. But we'll see how the legs turn out. Right now it's just under 5 inches.

I will most likely make some hands that are more Hand-like, with non-clawed fingers. But for the 2 handed gun, and other variants, those I think will be conversions. I want to keep the basic model pretty basic, so I don't infringe on anyone's IP. However, I may make separate kits to aid in conversion, but they would be made by me, and not made from anyone else's design. Forgive me if I ramble, I am just talking through some ideas and such.

As for the 4 horsemen, those may end-up being conversions too. But we'll see if I can make "kits" for that too. And I have good ideas for War and Pestilence and Death, but I'm having a hard time thinking of a way to show Famine on a giant robot. Any ideas?

Thinking more about these ideas though, I might want to make the extra cab I am planning on separately. I could have one variant with that set-up, and anohter with some metal helm-like head where the defiler head is/was. So many ideas running through my head! It hurts!

You could keep the cab on the front and just modify it slightly for the more chaotic look? brb
This was done stupid fast in PS just to give you an idea? You could always add more iconography etc but it would pretty much use the same base as the original cab.

Looks like an Original Cylon! I love it! Yeah, that could definately be a great variant for Chaos! Thanks BH! Kind of gives it that "Knight" feel to it too.

I envision a 2 person crew running these for armies similar to IG, or one could operate it for a Space Marine type army, or something similar to a Dreadnought sarcophogus. So, really the options are only limited by imagination!

I think I will have one or two base models, MkI and MkII if you will, and have variants of those! I am totally stoked about this build! I guess I say that about all of my projects, but I get excited easily!

Your excitement is infectious from the start of this thread youve had me looking at my chopped up Defiler legs and thinking what I can do alongside yours. I may just have to start tinkering

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually looking again, how does the front of a Dread sarcophagus look on the front there? Could be a good base to start work from? Im not sure how it would work size wise but I think the shape is pretty similar to your mock ups head

I only have a hacked up dread with an Ork head sticking out of it but I'll take a pic for size comparison.

A juggernaught head might look good on this thing as a possible conversion later! Speaking of conversions Biohazard, where are you on this thing?

To be honest thats as far as I got with that. I do have plans to return to it but at the momentmainly due to time/money ie not enough of either. I still have the plans and part list for it so I can resurrect the Gorehound when R/L settles down a little. I have been using some of the remaining defiler legs to make a set of legs similar to Tipios' in his thread. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/720/321822.page
Im gonna have a crack at something similar but reverse the torso. Im not sure how I will broaden the shoulders but will play around.

That will be cool! I think that is the idea I sort of started with, until I decided I wanted to make copies and maybe sell them, then I figured I needed to make it all from scratch.

Since seeing that foot of yours though, I have completely re-designed the feet for my build. I hope it comes out like I envision! I should have an update by Monday.

Excellent. That foot honestly just came together. I had a huge pile of bits in front of me and I knew I wanted it to look semi functional and then IT appeared. Hopefully the rest of the Titan goes as smoothly. Looking forward to your progress.
