Crap.

At least when 8th showed up, we knew it was going to be weird. Sure, it took some playtesting to realize that the way magic was re-worked made it possible to wipe out whole units, but at least we had a general idea.

Now? Hell if I know. This edition nonsense is going to kill me, I swear it. The only reason they keep going on with this "edition tradition" (Heh, pun) is to boost sales.

Whatever, I'm too tired to try and be positive about it. The new starter better rock, darn it all.

Agreed.

Plus, remember that WRG Ancients went through seven editions over a period of about 20 years, so it's not like GW are the only perpetrator of re-editioning.

To be fair, the WRG rules only costed about £5 per book. The downside of the GW influence on rule-books is that they have grown a lot larger, heavier, glossier and more expensive.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Almost everything is released first weekend of the month, and WD comes out usual just before or just after the second last weekend of the previous month
so it depends when the 23rd falls.
If before, between 2 and 3 weeks
If after, 1 and a bit - 2 weeks

Because people put more weight on their gut feeling (often mistakenly calling it "logic") than on established precedent.

Speaking of logic, they might want to squeeze actual release of 6th edition in during the 6th month simply due to symmetry.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

The new paint range had 2 weeks preorder time. You decide if a new 40k rulebook is equaly important

But, using that logic, GW may decide to change their plans and release it on 66/66/6666 and destroy time as we know it
But, yeah, that would be cool
too bad the 6th has been and gone

actually, I'd rather they release it in October

I've given up GW products for flames of war, but I cannot understand their reluctance to keep 6th under wraps. Their logic seems to be that people will get bored if they hear about something weeks before it is released.

Absolute ****! Euro2012 is underway, and people have known about it for 4 years. Did they give up on it? Did they hell! Matches are sold out, the football is good, and people are having a good time. Ok it's a strange comparison, but I'm not buying the GW approach. Heck, I'm not buying anything GW I hoped that made sense

The only logic I can see behind it is this:

1: They don't want people to stop buying products and wait for the next big thing. They want people to keep buying as normal and then be wowed by the suprise of the next big thing and buy more than normal.

2: On the outside chance that they blow their release date they don;t get all the bad press associated with pushing it back a month they just do.

Outside of those two things advertising things in advance makes sense.

P.S. In a marketing sense they are still winning because we are still talking about it and they haven't paid to advertise it lol.

Yeah, a bunch of the people I regularly play with would not be aware of 6th coming at all, if I hadn't told them.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I just find it absolutely nuts that this is perhaps 2 weeks away and the game has had absolutely zero marketing beyond the video. There was even an advert for AoBR in the last WD, which would be a great way to instantly lose a customer if some kid buys that right before a new version is released.

Well, this kind of policy allows GW to save money at the adverisement side.

It also allows GW to save money on resources and warehouse space, because they sell only half the number of products they could have sold with average marketing, not to speak of good marketing

Well, it also saves GW from becoming more popular. Here in Germany the number of people aware of GW is very very small.

As I said many times. We all complain about GW, but we are the IDIOTS because we still keep talking about it. Even the people who come in here who say they don't play anymore, but they still think about 40K. So who are the real idiots then? GW or us? As much as we cry and complain anything GW does, we are still here. No matter how much GW hates us internet we are still here. We get treated like we are a bother to GW and WE ARE STILL HERE.

No wonder GW does what it does, we talk about it no matter what. So why do they have to spend money on advertising.

Now back on topic. Why release the game in July? That would be a 7. It sort of takes away the VI and the meaning away. Just to have an anouncement of an anouncement? Weird. At least make the 6 have meaning and be released in June.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I concur. People with 30+ posts are just as valuable as people with 1500+ who are just as valuable as people with 3000+ posts. Respect the whippersnappers

Well I serpose we all have our "interesting" comments don't we....

points at self.

But I do seem to see a trend between unconstrustive and trolly posting by people with low post counts. I have seem some great examples of people with lower post counts delivering great work too. I advise that everyone should take any comment with some salt and do a little reasearch before posting. also, don't take it personal.

Now the only question left to answer is when is pre-order and when is launch?

The concensus seems to be June 23rd for pre-order, 1 or 2 weeks after for release

The forum users only make up part of the market, though.

What really matters is how big an influence forum users are ON the market. If they do have a big effect, GW's policies make more sense... Us talking about it, online and in stores with folks who would be otherwise unaware is free advertisement. It's quite possible people are talking about it MORE than they would be if conventional advertising had clearly laid out everything about it.

The flipside is probably even more important to GW - forums are a font of NEGATIVE commentary. If a bunch of 6th edition rules were currently being displayed and shown off, and the forums hated them, how would that influence sales? How many trusted "in the know" guys would be telling everyone not to buy it based on whatever the Internet is feeling peevish about this week? Not making them available and keeping the forums off the scent might just be a way to protect sales that would be otherwise deflected by rumors and criticism from the ever unhappy Internet crowd. It's not like 6th would get great reviews overall, regardless of how good or bad it may be. I remember the forums brewing a storm on how underpowered the bloody GK codex was when it first came out, for crying out loud.

First on the rulebook:
Harry wrote:I imagine in % terms it is a roughly similar increase to the increase we saw for Fantasy.(8th)

I suspect the will be a bit more of everything ... A bit more background a bit more rules, more information about the different armies, more hobby, more photos, more art, more colour. Just like the big fantasy book.

I is a safe bet there will be a special edition.

On that topic ... I know there is a special (Limited run) edition of the starter set.
