Which grass tufts are those and how did you find the application? Do they look as good from above as from the front? I need this information for purely selfish reasons

Oh - and keep up the good work

Nice update, great work on the landspeeder! And second youwashock, love the Rohirim group shpt, they are my favorite army since I first heard their theme in The Two Towers. Hope you find the shields soon

Nice update Snrub, you've been busy! Landspeeder is looking great, especially impressed by the purity seal. And well done for magnetising all your options! Rohirim are looking nice. I have fond memories of that Gamling model.

Good job on the land speeder. That much black must’ve been a slog, but it certainly paid off. The co-pilots helmet is really cool, is that standard for DA speeders?

YWS - "Chain-veil". That's excellent. I love it!
Arakasi - I'll throw some piccies up for you!
Viterbi - Thanks mate. Yeah I hear ya. Two Towers is my favourite of the 3 LotR movies. The March of the Ents is my such a beautiful piece of music. Gets me all goosebumpy every time I hear it, without fail. Haunting and powerful.
Zahnib - Cheers bud. I was a bit surprised myself at how well the purity seal came out. Actually has a nice aged parchment look.
Gobert - Thanks! The black is basically just the primer. I only gave it a quick really thinned coat of black all over. The highlights almost murdered me though. Something about highlighting black just doe my head in. The co-pilots head is not standard. It's one of Kromlechs !not-MkII heads.

So i've been working on Orcs last couple of days.
Like the test orc I did a while back, i've tried to keep the colour palette minimal and muted. Browns, Yellows, various shades there of. I only got a bit crazy with the skin. Browns, greens, bluegreys and some orangy flesh colours.

And the captain to lead them.

In the movies orcs tend to have a bit more red splashed around, but I decided that i'd save this for symbols (on banners, shields, etc) and to help highlight the heroes a bit better. So the captain was given red clothes.

Rebased one of the tactical squads too.

Also bashed out those walls and fences I bought a while back. You can jump over to my terrain thread if you feel so inclined to have a gander at them!

Arakasi, here are those pics of the grass tufts.

They're actually really big. I cut up 1 and managed to use it between for bases.

Those images helpful too you?

Anyway, that's all for today. Thanks for looking!

Really cool idea with all the different orc skin colors. Makes them look very individual but still like an army through their armour. Nice work!

Howdy folks.

How is everyone? Hope you're all safe and sane in these bizarre times.

I've not been up to much in these last few months. Hobbying as take a back seat to computer games recently, so I haven't gotten a whole lot done. Turns out Total Warhammer is MASSIVE time sink.
I have continued to plug away at my LotRs models slowly. I've painted a farther 23 Rohan warriors and an Eowyn. So now only another 12 models and that's all my unmounted Rohirrim done.

Éowyn, Shield Maiden of Rohan.

Rohirrim Warriors.

As bit of a palette cleanser from all the reds, greens and browns I'll be painting these little cultist fellas from Meridian Miniatures. I'm thinking trying out some yellow.

And lastly, I got myself a bust to paint. Greek Hoplite by Stavros Zouliatis

He's primed and ready to go. I'm just waiting for some paints though. So hopefully that will be a job for next month.

As always, thanks for checking in. C&C welcome!

The Rohirrim look really good. Especially good work on Eowyn. Is that the new plastic model or the older metal one?

Thanks guys!

Brushcommando - It's an old metal model. Specifically, the version that came in the "Heroes of the West" pack.

Very nice work. Eowyn is a great quarantine model. She didn’t want to stay locked up at home either!

Welcome back Snrub. That Eowyn model is nicely done! I really like the texture you've done on her cloak
Also, nice work on the photos, they look great.

Ice job on Eowyn .

Looking forward to seeing that Greek bust done up, I’m starting to see the appeal of doing busts with all these nice models coming out.

Éowyn and the Rohirrim are looking really nice - I like the range of muted colours you've used on them rather than having them all exactly the same, and the painting style suits them nicely.

I'm another one looking forward to that Greek bust, should be very interesting.

Thank for the comments, everyone. I appreciate the interest.

Painted these blokes up over the last couple of days. Fun bit of practice with colours I don't normally use in these quantities.
Everything but the yellow was supposed to be dirty and dull, where as the yellow I wanted to be as bright and lurid as I could get. So I really to push the contrast between them a bit. I think I did alright considering the I only have 3 shades of yellow.
I wanted them too look like they've been scrounging around in the dirt looking for bones, so the white robes and bones are filthy and only minimally highlighted. Where as the yellow was kept a bit cleaner. The guy in the middle I envision as the leader, so he's above getting down in the muck, so he's a less messy then the other two by default. I tried to reinforce this a bit by giving the others bloody bandages on their arms.
I also tried my hand at a bit of wood grain on the reliquaries, which i gotta say, was harder to do then I anticipated. But I am reasonably happy with it.
All told, about 6.5 hours work on them.

As always, thanks for looking! C&C more then welcome.

Very cool color scheme, especially for cultists....though I'm sure they are not cultists, just true believers in the REAL faith .

I was thinking the same, looks like they're about to ruin a production of everyone's favourite yellow stageplay. Great work, and a great yellow!

Viterbi - Unfortunately, there won't be more. They only came in a pack of 3 and I missed out on the 2nd kickstarter where he expanded on the range.

What stage production is that that you're referencing?

That would be the elder being Hastur, a Lovecraftian Great Old One (though it predates Lovecraft). Also known as "The King In Yellow", Hastur is linked to the fictional play "The King In Yellow" which drives those who read or witness it's later acts insane with impossible truths. Hastur is always depicted wearing hooded yellow robes.

Very fitting for your cultists.

Ooh that's a fun little snippet of lore to attach to them. I like that a lot.

Today I reached a small milestone with my Middle Earth minis. I've painted all of my current Rohirrim infantry!
That's 48 warriors, 3 Royal Guard, Theoden, Gamling, Hama and Eowyn. (It doesn't included my duplicate Theoden though.)

The final Warriors finished.
A couple of minor conversions sprinkled among these guys. Sculpted some chainmail on one guy and gave a few others weapon swaps. One has a bare head from the plastic Theoden kit.

Háma, Doorward of Meduseld, Captain of the King's Guard.

Royal Guard

Also took this opportunity to re-shoot both Theoden and Gamling with the black background.

Protect the King!

That brings an end to the Rohirrim for the moment, as I need a break from them before I tackle the riders.
Thinking maybe some Uruk-hai or Orcs next...

As always, C&C is welcome and appreciated!
Thanks for looking.

Army Shot.

Pics or it didn’t happen.
