Okay okay ... first off, i just took this picture with my blackberry, my girlfriend is out and has the camera, so be gentle.

Below is my converted hive queen, painted a bit, but i really want to repaint it as well as my whole army. Im not the best painter, so if you know of any good tyranid tutorials please feel free to let me know because i could REALLY use the help. Well here it is, from the picture here tell me what ya think of it.

Ill post a better one when she gets home

**EDIT** Better pictures (She is missing a leg, dont know when / where it was lost) She NEEDS A NEW PAINT JOB!!! Im thinking of going like darker skin color (brown's maybe) with green carapace, unless someone can provide me with a SWEET snow painting tutorial. I have 2500 points of nids i want to redo so im thinking for the basic troops of dipping them, dunno yet though :

From what I can tell it looks good!

I know your camera isn't the best but having a computer monitor behind the model is only going to make the picture a lot worse!

The joins on the tail could use a little work, but apart from that, it looks pretty damn sweet. Excellent kitbash.

Hey are you talking about the second picture where the actual tail meets the body? It looks kind of odd right there your right. When i pick a new color to paint the army, ill be sure to go over that with some green stuff to make her flow better.

Thanks for the critiques guys!

It's just a bit creepy if I'm honest.

I love it, but my only problem with it (And I know, it's a really small, and annoying one at that) but 'nids are only supposed to have 6 limbs.

Still, I say bugger that in the presence of this critter, as it is pretty nifty.

I've heard this before, but where does it come from? Is there a rule or what? I prefer interpreting the essence of the hive mind's tactic to be ever adaptive and spawn whatever is needed, even if it would break the number of limbs 'rule'.

There aint no specific rule as such, but the whole design aesthetic for tyranids follows a particular pattern of 6 limbs, a certain amount of ridges on the head, those obscure little ridge things on their arms..

Way creepy looking. Looks like the legs looked pretty tough to model and get to stand up. 2 points to you.

The anatomy looks very alien, I like it when Tyranids dont have a 'man' like silhouette! I think the rust color clahses with the blue though, and is not as well finished, but overall the effect is quite good.

I completely agree, i really dont like my scheme, im working on 2 different ones right now .. gotta master one before i put it on my center piece!

I'm afraid to say that Tyranids are only supposed to have 6 limbs. Whilst yes, Tyranids do spawn incredibly strange creatures, there are certain things they all have in common. Also, I'm not sure about the wings.

Otherwise, pretty cool.

Great kitbash! It makes a real change to see some very original tyranids.

If you don't know what colour to do the hive queen, I find that a heavy wash of inks on the model look very alien.

This one of mine has blue ink painted on the armour and red ink on the skin.

I like the serpentine look you've gone for, reminds me of the catachan devil fluff in the 4e codex. Although not confirmed, that was a 'nid' lifeform with more than 6 limbs, so I can agree on your artisitic license with the anatomy.
