After a long career of never posting my work. I finally got bored. I get fed up with photoshopping these pictures down to a reasonable size fairly quickly, so this is likely to be a bit of an ordeal over the next week or so.

Total list of models I will post: (Eventually. This will be an ordeal taken in installments.)

HQ:
Chapter Master Tu'Shan(conversion)
Chapter Master with twin thunderhammers (conversion)
Terminator Chaplain
Terminator Librarian(light conversion)
Vulkan He'Stan(Weapon tweak)
Captain N'keln(Conversion)

10x Honor Guard(Converted)
Kitted-to-the-teeth Command Squad(Converted)

Troops:
2x Ten man tactical squad
5x Scout snipers

Elites:
10x Sternguard Veterans
1x Ironclad/Venerable Dreadnought
9x Assault Terminators(Converted, still need final detailing)

Fast Attack:
10x Vanguard Veterans

Heavy:
Techmarine with thunderfire cannon(Conversion)

You'll notice a conspicuous lack of vehicles. My Redeemer, Rhinos, Vindicator, and Drop Pod are all on the back burner while I get my small Dark Eldar force tabletop-quality.

And the first batch of Pictures, arguably the most thrilling, the Characters.

The nameless Chapter Master. This is the conversion that got me back into my Salamanders:

Chapter Master Tu'Shan. The current Chapter Master in the fluff.

Vulkan He'stan, with a weapon that isn't just a dagger-on-a-stick.

Captain N'keln, as described in Nick Kyme's Salamander.

My Terminator Chaplain. The one HQ model that was too gorgeous to convert.

My Terminator Librarian. I could not, for the life of me, find a place to mount a storm shield on him that didn't wreck the pose. So, he has a Storm Shield Familiar.

I have a few more posted in my gallery at http://s1188.photobucket.com/albums/z403/CasaHouse40k/Salamanders/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ16 if you get impatient.

Let me know what you think. More than painting, I'd like feedback on conversions, because I never really stop tweaking the paint on my models. Next update will be my ten honor guard. Thank you for your time.

-Casa

P.S. In advance, I know the Salamanders are supposed to have yellow eye-lenses. I just like the contrast I get from blue ones better.

I'm starting Salamanders myself after the holidays, and I must say, your work here has me absolutely salivating to get to the project. The conversion work is flawless here. In particular, Tu'shans legs and thunder hammer I wish were bits I could purchase. I'd also kill to get half a dozen of the nameless Chapter Master's back packs. For my own army.

I must say, I think the only part I don't like of what Ive seen so far is the Librarian's storm shield. I like the concept, but to me, a familiar is supposed to be at least slightly anthropomorphic.

Don't get me wrong, I eagerly await more pictures of your work.

I can give you a bitz list if you'd like for the conversions.

And on the Storm Shield Familiar. It isn't literally a familiar. The way I usually explain it is that it just has an anit-grav unit built in, and he just moves it with his mind to intercept hits so he can twohand the axe.

"Familiar" just condenses that into four syllables.

Round two: The Honor Guard.

These guys are my pride and joy. Nothing like a unit of nine relic blades and a thunder hammer to get the job done and scare the bejesus out of whatever they're running at.

And then the individuals:

Nametaker, my Chapter Champion, leader of the Honor Guard, and overall favorite model from any of my armies.

The Chapter Banner Bearer:

And then the rest of the guys, some of whom have names, some of whom I'm still working on names for:

Let me know what you think. As stated before, I take more pride in my converting abilities than my painting, but I think the paint turned out rather well on these. Especially the weapons.

The blade is from one of the Assassin Twins from Inquisitor, bent slightly to give it a more wicked curve. The guard is just a plastic Crux Terminatus bit. It's amazing how well it ended up fitting. Every other katana conversion I've tried ended up looking way too flimsy for a Marine.

Round 3: Vanguard Veterans

Sergeant Tal'din:

And the rest:

The next guy's weapon was my least favorite among the conversions. It just looked like ass. Then I painted it, and it became my favorite weapon in the squad. The power field effect just came out perfect.

Let me know what you think.

Round Four: Sternguard Veterans

These guys were my favorite unit to convert, and are easily my favorite unit to field. In game, apart from the two heavy flamer guys, everyone has a combi-flamer. Some are modeled with combi-flamers, others have a bolter and a hand flamer, others have a bolter and a "holstered hand flamer". If I can ever get my hands on more hand flamers, I will tweak them a bit more so nobody has a "holstered hand-flamer" anymore. I modeled the specialty ammunition by just attaching a side-loading spare clip to each bolter. Not the most sophisticated, but it gets the job done.

There's no greater feeling as a Salamander player than landing a drop pod and then plonking ten flame templates down onto a mob of Orks or Nids.

Anyway, here they are:

And then the individuals:

Sternguard Ancient K'nel:

The rest of the Sternguard Veterans:

And the two Heavy Flamers, these guys are pretty much placeholders that are waiting on me to paint my two slightly-converted Legion of the Damned heavy flamer guys, at which point I will tweak the barrels on their weapons and they will become devastators.

Fun fact: In cutting all the spare clips for the bolters on this unit, I actually ran myself out of bolters for a while. That's never happened before.

As always, let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

So you guys inspired me to paint up those two Heavy Flamer guys today:

And I figured I'd just post the rest of the pics I have. Screw installments.

Tactical Squad one:

Tactical Sergeant One. This is one of the few models I refuse to convert. He once dropped a Bloodthirster from two wounds to dead with his chainsword after it ate his squad:

Tactical Squad two:

Tactical Sergeant Two:

Scout Squad:

Scout Sergeant:

Assault Squad:

Assault Sergeant: Famous for his habit of jumping and uppercutting skimmers out of the air. Latest was a Valkyrie.

Ancient Gravius: When I heard that the new marine codex had a "Seismic Hammer" option for a Dreadnought, I decided any proper Salamander Dread would have a REAL hammer.

Techmarine Hephaestus and his Thunderfire cannon:

And Lastly, the models without squads:

This guy was sitting on my table for YEARS, converted but not painted. Once I started the repaint, he got properly done up, and he doubles as an Assault Sergeant when I want to field two five-man Assault Squads, or just a more survivable Sarge.

Next, Brother Sergeant Praetor, modeled after his description in the Tome of Fire novels by Nick Kyme. I love that he has a "What the hell are you thinking?" expression. His squadmates are still being painted.

And lastly: Apothecary Emek. I know he doesn't follow the codex scheme, but the codex Salamander Apothecary scheme looked terrible, so he got his own thing. The command squad are still being painted.

Let me know what you think, and thanks for the feedback. Let me know if you want detail shots of any specific models if I missed them.

Very nice. The scouts' camo cloak looks fantastic. And I like the the half colours of the apothecary. Beautiful. My only gripe is the lens colours of the helmets. It seems to lack contrast with the armour, hence not as attention grabbing.

The codex scheme uses yellow lenses, which blend with the highlights on the helms to the point of being almost invisible, so I prefer the blue, but I do agree. Short of red, there really isn't much to be done as far as making the eyes pop.
Maurin wrote:Awesome job! I was scratching my head over the honour guard with the Ultramarines symbol on his knee, but loved everything else. Keep it up

Meh. Some Ultramarine gave him that as a token of appreciation from his "spiritual liege", so he makes a point to put it in the dirt whenever he says his prayers to Vulkan and the Emperor. That's what I like to think, anyway.

Yeah. I would have suggested red lens too. I can't really tell from the pictures, but did you blackline the lens? That may help if you've not tried it yet.

It's just a straight coat of Shining Gold and then a Badab Black wash. If you hit it with another highlight of Shining Gold after it dries, you get the effect from He'stan's breastplate flames:

I didn't really do the last step on most of them, the coat and wash look sexy enough for the tabletop. He'stan seemed... special.

Hope that helps.
