Why wouldn't you try to make your charector as powerful as possible? That seems odd.

Well, for instance, when I make a character, I tend to have a few things in mind. While I try to keep his "main" attribute high, I then look at the "skill checks" he may be called upon, and look at what role he has in the party in relation to those, and base my attributes with that. I typically avoid having any one attribute at the racial minimum for that character (for instance, if I make a half-Orc, whose base INT is 8, I make sure that it is at least a 10, so that I don't get the penalty in INT)

IMO, Min-Maxing is where I would make a character and deliberately leave an attribute at that bare minimum in order to have a better "top" attribute

It'd also give you more skill points, iirc. Though difference between 8 and 10 I can't remember.
Still it'd probably be better off in STR or CON.

Yeah if you want to make a more powerful character it's better in STR or CON but if you're trying to make a balanced or roleplay focused character then his technique is fine.

Trying to make the most powerful character possible by minimising some stats and maximising others is pretty much how min/maxing is defined.

So it's a pejorative for specialization?

If you're creating a character who has low Int and high Strength because they're a Barbarian, and you want to roleplay them as someone who thinks with their muscles and bulls through obstacles even when they shouldn't, that's fine. If you're creating a character with those stats because Strength is the primary fighting stat and the party already has a Wizard with high Intelligence, so you don't need that, it's MinMaxing. It's somewhat tame minmaxing, that pretty much all players do to some extent, but it's there. It's all a matter of reason, and how you end up playing the character that you've created, as well as the interactions between the given stats and the class. If someone made a character that was really high Con and Str, with low Int, Wiz and Cha, but that character was a wizard, well, that wouldn't be min-maxing. If a person used a Flaw system to get better stats or more feats, but the 'Flaws' they took were Double Amputee and Hydrophobia, it's not min-maxxing. If, however, they took No Tongue (being mute and having no sense of taste) and Unable to Sing, that could be min-maxing, because unless they're playing a Bard or other magic using class, those aren't big issues in a normal RPG campaign. And even as a Bard or Wizard or Sorc, there's ways around those 'penalties' that aren't that difficult, such as a Bard specializing in an instrument or dance, or Mages using Silent Spell metamagics.

I decided to make a character that I STRICTLY roll play with. And I modeled him after Robin Hood. So furs, and arrows and thats pretty much it. I decided that I will make my money not from stealing though (mainly since everyone is pretty much poor in this game) instead Ill hunt game and sell pelts and make armors and sell those. Its been a real fun time tracking down Elk/Deer and the like and hunting them. Ive also beeing stopping into the Inns for drink on occasion and even been konwn to chop wood from time to time. So far Im making pretty good money doing this, Ive currently just over 6k and Im a lvl12 from hunting and stalking and killing the random bandit.

Have to say, Im really enjoying this character

I used to explore Skyrim, but then I realized that there are too many dragons in Skyrim and that whenever I run away from them I run into a bear, or a bandit camp, or a giant camp, or sometimes if I'm extra lucky another dragon. One time I fought an elder dragon and a blood dragon at once.

The only way to balance the Skyrim universe is to destroy all bows and arrows and then remove all knowledge of archery from the galaxy. Either that or remove everyone's knees.

Yes that's the thing to do, if you don't start doing the main quest line then no dragons show up. It's kind of possible to live life as just a normal citizen in Skyrim without ever realising you are the Dragonborn.

So far, no clue Im half dragon, and I wont lie, its been great. Im thinking about starting a story in the RPG section of this character. Thinking kindda like hes writing in his journal of his adventures. I went towards whiterun, and then just went west for days hunting and tracking. Ive almost talked myself into doing the journal thing on here.

Also, anyone know if I find a shack in the middle of no where, and put my own items in the barrels and so on, would they stay there? Because I dont own a house, and Im wanting to find a shack out in the wilds to call my own, but I dont want to start dropping my stuff there and on the shelves and find out later that oh darn that thing I was saving, is now gone.

Safe Containers
  • Containers in purchased or rewarded homes are almost always "safe".

  • The wardrobe in Riverside Shack.

  • The end table located in the Alchemist's Shack.

  • The Apothecary's Satchel located in the cellar of Anise's Cabin.

  • Containers in Delphine's secret room in the Sleeping Giant Inn, Riverwood.

  • The chest outside in front of High Hrothgar where you put Klimmek's Supplies

  • The contents of traditional containers will reset within a specific period of time; making them useful only for short term storage. Some containers never reset however, and are therefore considered safe for long term storage.

Nobody lives in the Alchemist's Shack AFAIK, but there's a bear lair nearby, and a scripted mob further up the road towards Ivarstead you might want to be careful of.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Twink is often used as a term to describe a 'powergamer' or Min-Maxer, I believe. I've heard it used that way before, anyhow.

Aye in WoW twink is the term of a player who keeps a character at a PvP lower brackets, and pretty much overloads it with the best gear, items and enchants, that before certain updates, where insanely above their level. Such as, until the change of making leg enchancements from Leatherworking level based, you'd have lvl 19's with lvl 70 stat bonues.

They then go in and dominate the hell out of the pvp scene, and made it a nightmare for folks pvping as they level through the game.

Brackets changed about a year and ahlf ago though, so there was no more ten level gaps in the brackets. This means you don't tend to get twinks one shotting folks anymore, hence a fair few stopped doing it.
