Ah, yes, the most hotly debated topic of all time: Does a high post count give you more status?

Does a DCM status make you better than the rest?

Nope on both accounts. DCMs I personally hold with a bit of respect because they ARE paying for this site. But as far as opinions and such, doesnt make a difference

I agree completely with KingCracker. It's not the number of posts it's the content.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

This question is actually VERY complicated.

I find that post count does indeed suggest one's credibility. However, it's not necessarily "the more the better" but more what the actual post NUMBER is.

I find that the most genius nuggets of wisdom come from people who's post count is between 3528 and 3587. If someone's post count falls in between those two numbers, you better listen up...these folks are sagelike gods of 40k and wargaming knowledge.

Totally true.

There are people with relatively low post counts that should be listened to; there are people with very high post counts that post nothing but nonsense.

That said, all Mods and DCMs should be obeyed without question.

I don't know, that sounds kinda...*looks at post count*...Forgive me, you're absolutely right, good sir.

Number of posts may give an indication as to how long a poster has been active, how often they post, etc. Status comes mainly from post content in my experience though.

What a higher post count does not do, as many forum newbies seem to think, is make you an instant coolguy. The secret to becoming a coolguy, of course, is that you will never, ever be a coolguy.

No and No, quite simply.

There are just as many users with high post counts who have a high noise to signal ratio. Conversely, there are just as many with low post counts but who only post quality.

And being a DCM is no immunity to idiocy; I am living proof!

It's not post count.

It's not DCM or not.

For Credibility, simply look at the name. If the name has BEERFART in it, the post is worth listening to.

...everything else is just chaff.

Gallery votes show that you use dakka for p & m, which is good, as we have a diverse crowd. I don't believe that they affect your ranking track.
Post count doesn't matter, because when you've recently joined, you could still have good ideas. People with high counts could be venerable old members, or simply people who say plenty of worthless things. Some people only hang around the off-topic forum, giving advice based off their promiscuity. So it all depends on the poster

Personally I really don't care about post counts. Never celebrated a "milestone" and never will. Its just a number. I just enjoy talking about the various hobbies on this site I take part in.

As to whether DCM qualifies as you being better? Not in my eyes except for the fact that you have my respect for contributing towards DakkaDakka's upkeep.

I find myself liking someone more if they have a decent or higher gallery vote count. I see ALOT of people on DAKKA that dont have one, it annoys me a bit because your missing a huge part of DAKKA. But we cant turn that into a race, because Kid Kyoto would crush all of us put together

Post count doesn't matter, however date joined and date of birth do influence my opinions on said posters.

DCM status clearly is most important though

I've respect for the DCMs,as they "put their money where their mouth is." so to speak.
Post counts?..meh,they don't really mean alot,I've got over 5000 post and I know more than half of them are basically pointless.

Can we get this one locked as well?

I thought Samus had a monopoly on pointless threads, i mean, what can we even debate here?!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

If the number of post one has lends them any real credibility I suppose.
My vote..no it doesn't...not one little bit.

Not sure why, I find my post counts are kind of addictive, but a higher number doesn't earn my respect. That has more to do with what people write.

And with those carefully chosen words of wisdom, I reach a post count of 3603. Bow down before me

I've seen plenty of idiots with very high post counts (on this forum and others). And, I've seen plenty of geniuses with very few post counts.

But, I'll admit, I do notice it and it does sometimes affect my opinion of posts.

Although, it usually leads me to the opposite of "credibility". I have high standards for long-time posters and expect them to live up to that standard. For low post counts, I'm much nicer in my responses to help "guide" the newbie
