There has always been some mild tension between the Americans and Brits. The Brits are the only army in the world that carry a ration for tea time, including the tea, water, and means to heat it up, (<sarcasm>how butch is that?</sarcasm&gt and everyone knows they have bad teeth and awful jokes. The Americans, on the other hand, are cocky, oversexed, and always showing up late for wars.

It occurred to me that in DoW II that the IG have British accents and the Space Marines have American accents. Is this the game's way of saying that if a british person becomes AWESOME enough to be a SPACE MARINE he also becomes more American and that by being more American this is a HUGE improvement of being British? Or does being cocky, oversexed, and always showing up late for wars make you lose your British accent?

Aren't the Space Marines in DOW mainly played by Americans attempting (badly) to do British accents?

I thought that was what the whole SPESS MEHRINES thing was about? THQ's terrible Californian voiceover artists attempting to sound like an 8 foot tall ancient British supersoldier.

Please cross reference Ultramarines: The Movie.

See? Simple. In the 41st Millenium, both Imperial Guard AND Space Marines are British. I believe American accents might be more appropriate for the Ecclesiarchy. Nobody else does crazy religous nuts quite as well....

Runnin up on ya.

That's something that's always got me. I couldn't fake a decent British accent to save my life but it seems that most Brits (that I've met or seen in movies/tv) can do a passable American accent.

It's just not fair.

So hold on ?

America = lots of men, lots of Tanks = SM

Britain = Small number of elite well trained well lead troops = IG

I think you might have got that one wrong sunshine....

I might have upped the ante on this one, but being that we are allies and I have fought alongside them in many places. On a personal note I can forgive the good old US of A anything on the Military Banter stakes for 2 reasons.

1. The Browning .50Cal....nuff said.
2. The term"REMF"

For those two things alone I will put with crap Yank banter.

How does one reach the conclusion that the UK's soliders are more "elite" and "well trained" than america's?

By your logic, the countries with less soldiers and less vehicles are automatically better on a individual basis, which means that Iceland probably fields actual space marines in war.

Well, there is some space marine aspects to the US Military too.

1. Most of the most advanced military technology across the board.
2. Quick Strike capabilities to most places on the planet.
3. Completely ignoring the rest of the "Imperium of Man" and doing whatever the feth they want (for better or, typically, for worse).

I find this to be completely the opposite. The USA gives away medical and food supplies to the very countries who harbor terrorists who kill our citizens. I think America goes far too far out of it's way to be "politically correct".

Because they ARE. The average Brit grunt is better trained than the average US Army Grunt. If you actually looked it up instead of just following national lines, you'd see that not only do Brits go through better training, but the US has had to lower its requirements over time to keep up their numbers for the Army.

If I had to pick any country to have as an ally in war, it would be the UK without a doubt. I'm not trying to detract from your military, I'm just curious what "metric" it is that you are using to determine the UK's soldiers are better than USA's.

Spaces marines have a lower population but are just as effective as IG as a whole so surely the UK are space marines whereas you yanks are IG

I'm not, I never declared that they weren't. I simply asked how they were coming to that conclusion.

No Griever, having operated with your Troops they are relatively good, but a little simple and guillable. Our troops are funny little sods and run rings around yours, plus we don't a Pizza Hut, Starbucks and McD's in a warzone to do the job. We get by on minimal logisitc tail, you bring America with you. Our troops have superior training, take our Royal Marines vs your Marines as a good example.

Anyway this is supposed to be a light hearted romp so I will regail a very funny incident in the US 5th Fleet Headquarters Bahrain (I was there and it was a brilliant example of Brit vs yank banter and it descended into a massive fist fight).

US Marine Chatting to a Royal Marine.
Royal Marine says "I had a mate who was a Yank, came from a state in the US began with a P?"
US Marine Says "What Pennysilvania?"
Royal Marine says "No, wasn't there mate"
US Marine says "I don't know any others beginning with P friend".
Royal stares at the ground for a minute then says "Oh yes, it was Pearl Harbour!"
US Marine laughs "Huh, thats Hawaii D*ck head, pearl Harbour isn't a state!"
Royal Marine said "It was when the Jap's left!"

Fists were flying....Awesome times.

Reported.

Seeing as how you've brought as much "evidence" into this post as I have, perhaps you need to consider who you call lazy.

I went ahead and did some, and the average British soldier undergoes six months of training, compared to the USA's nine weeks.
