Subject: Something strange at the bottom of GW's What's new today?
Not sure if this has already been mentioned, if so lock.
I noticed at the very bottom of the 'What's new today' page (below the products) there's this:
1. Spam is considered to be a delicacy in parts of England. For local approximations, consider fine foods such as Beluga Caviar, truffles, or foie gras.
You know you're really doing something when you can make strangers hate you over the Internet. - Mauleed
Just remember folks. Panic. Panic all the time. It's the only way to survive, other than just being mindful, of course-but geez, that's so friggin' boring. - Aegis Grimm

There is something to this. After reading the article I felt like I needed to purchase a lot of these metal blisters and spam my opponents with them. GW is using subliminal messages encoding into the words to make me spend lots of money on these.

Note that the GW emails are solicited so it's not really "spam".
Also, spam sometimes has useful content.
No - its a footnote explaining what spam is for those without the benefit of a 50's childhood. A footnote is inserted when the author wishes to elaborate a point or cite a reference without breaking the flow of text.
GW love foot notes ! i cant remember the name of the guy that used to have a monthly collum in WD and just used to ramble about his weekly games nights with his strange mates and his comedy/evil cat that used to have a half dozen footnotes per paragraph ! ..loved that

But if WD returned to having an element of comedy and articles written by people who are to all extents normal (as in not Matt Ward or any other Robot in the Games Department...). I love the older style for WD.
But yeah Spam is pure processed pig. Only real use is on a bait hook for Chubb.

One might imagine that the author felt that his reference to spam had to be qualified in a humourous way just in case people thought he wasn't referring to the practice of fielding redundant units.
Ah, these humans and their 'humour'...

You know, if they'd printed: "Spam is a mechanically recovered meat product", they might be explaining what spam is, but if they say is considered to be a delicacy in parts of England. For local approximations, consider fine foods such as Beluga Caviar, truffles, or foie gras, then they are making a joke.
You see, some sorts of sentences are funny, because they say something that is not true and hence absurd.
