Subject: Warhammer 40k Space Marine--Exclusive Behind the Scenes Trailer
Coming August 2011! Can't wait! I thought this game looked awesome from the other trailers I've seen, but this one makes it look even better. The chainsword/hand to hand combat seems much improved. I also really like kicking an Ork's entire top half off. That's a mighty boot worthy of Duke himself.

Some of the later shots seem like they toned down the bolter's rate of fire too, which is nice. It was a bit machine-gun-y in those early shots. Even if they didn't, I'm still looking forward to this game.

Holy crap am I excited about this. I've stayed out of FPS games for years to avoid getting sucked in and losing big chunks of my life (that's the tabletop game's job!). But I'm totally getting abck into it for this.
Just Dave, do you play a lot of FPS? I can see how this one is a bit behind the curve on graphics comapred to other stuff our there, and maybe play too- but the background should hopefully help make up for that.
Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Yeah man, plenty, when I want to be I can be quite a 'hardcore' gamer (just finished Mass Effect 2 for the second time. On insanity). Technically though, this isn't an FPS.
I just don't like the look of the action; one of the opening shots with the bolter spraying everywhere I didn't like. It can be accurate as the others showed, but that just suggested to me that there's no real... 'ability' behind this. When he was in close combat and he chainsawed a grot and it just disappeared in a little cloud of blood I was underwhelmed. It literally disappeared! Then later on he stabs an Ork in the chest and its arms fall off?!
I know this is coming across as bad reasoning and I know it's partially me being picky, but I don't know, I'm really not liking the feel of this. Gameplay-wise this is coming across very similar to 'Metal Arms Glitch in the System' if any of you ever played that, but that game didn't take itself seriously.
Tbh, I'm not really one for graphics, I never seem to be able to appreciate good graphics as much as others, so that wouldn't be a problem for me.
I think for me it's probably the gameplay that's spoiling it and that's a pretty huge factor IMHO. It's not your conventional FPS where you can really feel things, like Half-life, Dues Ex or Halo, it's not as refined as Gears of War which seems to be it's closest similarity to me.
Game-play wise I can't see it comparing to Gears of War in terms of refinement, it seems a bit more like... 'Dynasty Knights' (?) i think it's called, where it simply looks cool, but has no real depth or technique IMHO.
Apologies if this comes across as really party-poopy...

Wow you really took the words out of my mouth. I would add though that I do have a problem with the graphics in addition to the things you've mentioned. I don't think that even my 40k fanaticism will save this one for me.

Any idea if there will be a co-op multiplayer option?
Please?
Other things that Relic wouldn't talk about yet include specifics on the two menu items "Multiplayer" and "Co-op" (the latter seems natural, since a few missions in the campaign have A.I. squadmates giving you some backup).
Which is why earlier I stated I would be buying a console to play this. I like the idea of my son and I playing through a campaign---he can carry the load so to speak why I do funny/stupid things.
I'll tell him each time his marine dies and we fail the mission, Daddy loves him a little less---that should keep him motivated.

The rumors have been 4 player co-op, ever since the original E3 announcement trailer shown to the media showed a Drop Pod landing with 4 unique Marines charging out of it.
Especially the textures seem very bad (see 0:38). Hopefully this will change although out zoomed cc doesn't support this. Effects like smoke doesn't seem to be 2d insted of 3d (not 3D I mean 3D).
Hugely immersive world means flat levels with nice skyboxes but don't worry Gears of Smurf is your traditional fantasy: all have guns. Lukily developer luvs the ip and is not selling out the world aka blood and violence (0:50).
It seems Smurf will be another consoleport I wont buy.
Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

He is mistaken. Gamestop automatically puts a release date of 12/31/XX in their system for a game that is announced as "Coming 20XX." When I was still working there around a year ago we had Space Marine in the system as 12/31/11 because the announced release window was sometime during 2011. Gamestop doesn't update this release date until an official one is set so the manager that you talked to is either oblivious to this practice by Gamestop or he genuinely believed that the game was releasing on the 31st.

It's been that way in our systems for the past few months, yet every ad we're seeing for the game says either "Summer 2011" or "August 2011," so it's probably an issue of the release date not being updated by corporate.

I really wont have enough money this year. You have this, Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, Necrons, wow, not enough money for a guy still in his last year at school.
TBH I like how relic seems to know their 40k stuff, they're the only company I would trust to make a decent current gen40k game. In some parts the graphics seem brilliant, and then in others, not so much, like the Grots just exploding into a cloud of blood, that was weird. At least its an over the shoulder TPS rather than an FPS, so you can actually see your pimped out Smurf Chainswording some Orks.
