Aw Vit its a massive shame you didn't win, i voted for you, i think your right though, a first glance at the picture really doesn't do it justice at all, i loved all the little details like the book, for me it stood out as being by far the most grimdark and atmospheric of the entries.

(plus its mechanicus, not that i'm biased at all. =p )

edit: Is that watch cogs i see on the dark mech's legs as well? such versatile things those cogs are, love them =]

HF Izanagi wrote:Ah crap!! That was the one you were talking about?! Out of all of them, that one stood out to me. The rust-texturing is fantastic on the diorama base... so nasty that I don't even want to touch it to turn it! Good good stuff.

That first photo, however, doesn't do it justice. I realize you wanted to highlight the details- the book, the individuals, the guy with the NMM-like laser halberd... I think your spoiler'd pic would have been the best for that- It must have been difficult (read- nigh-on impossible) to capture all the elements working with a single angle...

Kudos, man! Not cuz I know you, but that one impressed me on scale and attempt. The grot-entry was particularly clean, as was the "high ground" (I have my money this one probably took the win home?) but yea, scale wise and quality, this one all the way.

Cheers buddy, yeah taking pics was one thing that did not cross my mind when i built it. Such a pita to photo.

Im very surprised i started priming 3 days before the deadline and the whole thing on the day of the deadline As i said before i now cannot use slow painting as an excuse for non painted armies

Although it did take 25 out of the 72 hours, in between going to uni, suffice to say i didnt sleep much that week......

PDH wrote:Wow that was out of the blue....did I miss the wip shots some place? I'd have commented much sooner had I see it. Wicked.

I love the tech heretech! His face and legs are so good. Is it based off the carin wraith?

The tech priest is cool, like how I had to look twice to work out the base model. Very nice indeed.

You're good at this mechanicus stuff

Yeah paint comp rules say no pics anywhere until after the voting has finished, hence the secrecy...

It is a cairn wraith aye, so technically an example of "pimp my plastic single box whfb character" Im guessing you figured out it was solomon lok, blended with the fw tech priest, if not there you are.

Ive certainly got my practice on the AdMech, and more importantly the inspiration/ motivation...

I know, photo lessons on the cards Next paint comp eh...

Im sure it had nothing to do with your being a fellow brother of the hallowed mechanicus at all.....

And yeah i had a lot of fun sorting through the little bag for the right cogs!

Stay tuned for elysian goodness, and a batrep of my nids vs. SONS of ORAR's sons of orar (whoda thunk it!?)

Next is elysians for a bit, until Hits_the_Spot releases his true scale marines. Then it'll be either RG or sons of medusa, leaning towards the sons cos it lets me keep the admech vibe goin.

At some point over my month long easter break in april i need to finish strippin the warhound and repaint it.

Thats all in between revising for my final first year exams :/

Ooooh snaap! Yea, definitely go SoMs. GreyDeath's are simply amazing... not that that's the benchmark I'm comparing yours to, but that's the benchmark I'm comparing yours to.

Ah... month-long Easter Break... sorry, bro. I feel no pity for you and your exam review... been on the same road for nearly 2 years now... it sucks arse, and I remember you saying something elsewhere about you "getting drunk every single day" at uni... lol... sounds really rough...

- Remi

P.S. - just saw your 'nids... and your VCs... and TKs... any chance you still have any components? Hit me up via PM.

The legs are scratch built:

- plasticard frame, capped on the end with hormagaunt claws.
- plasticard tubing for the pistons
- watch cogs on the knee joints
- a load of gs tentacle things to "fuse" it all together.

The only thing from a "kit" is the wraith body, the claws, the chaos backpack ends and the mechadendrites.

Well that would be conducive to increasing my output! It really entirely depends on whether my laptop and xbox are stuck in here with me

I cant wait to get back to my parents' next week, can finally finish stripping the warhound, and im actually motivated to blaze it in a couple of days!

From a while back, half is now stripping the other half has been stripped and is in bits.

Its the clubs but ive been sitting on it for about a year, really need to rebuild and paint it.

Wow, after a very good few hours of scrubbing, the warhound is finally stripped.

On that note, dont leave resin in dettol for 6 months. It goes soft.... :s

Hey Dakka,

Heres where the warhound sits atm

Unfortunately the 6 months in dettol made the torso and weapons kinda soft. the majority of the detail will not be affected but some of it will need to be GS'ed/ replaced. Ah well, you live and learn. Also, im gonna need to do some clever basing, this thing is very very wonky and oddly posed as is

In other news, we have a varsity 40k tournament on the 2nd of may (ie our uni against the metropolitan version, ours is the better ). I will be taken along my elysians hopefully, so need to get on them as well.

YEEK... So... the details... (especially if I plan some sort of suicidal strategy like leaving it in for half a year...) you mean... they've melted? And how about the larger components - legs/arm joints, have they been effected?

And good luck at your tourney! Any chance of a shot of the Elysian army you're taking over? Or are you bringing the whole kit and caboodle to swap units in/out?

-Remi

Its just the thin bits of resin, theyve gone really soft like rubber. You can push them and they go back as they were. Thankfully everything else is still rock solid, though the outer skin feels like velvet.

It should be solveable, if not i'll just paint anyway!

The legs, which soaked for a couple of days, suffered no mishaps whatsoever. I suspect even after a month it would be fine, 6 no.

Not sure what im taking yet, the tourney pack gets emailed soon. I have to paint it before i can show you a shot Remi

WAIT a moment, I'd strongly advise you to leave the parts out in the sun or another warm, but not hot place. I had the same thing with resin kits and certain stripping liquids. The resin regained structural integrity as the solvents evaporated.
It's at least worth giving it a try. Wait a week or something.

I voted for you dude! Your contest entry was just cooler than the other ones. With some better photos it would have kicked ass, the one that won was seriously boring. You should look into making a cheap-ass DIY light tent. And no, this has nothing to do with me being biased towards Admech...

Thats a good idea Baiyuan, will do so with the worst affected bits.

Cheers meade, i know the photos sucked. I will def look into light tents. It was more the bloody awkward shape of the entry that made photography bad. That and awful photo selection and montage creation! Thanks for voting regardless

Yeah, in hindsight you may have done better by modelling the figures closer together to fit in one shot, and nothing in front of them to obstruct the shot. Got to keep the whole final product in mind. It's all good though, cheers

Righty ho guys, i managed to get the Warhound rebuilt!

Big ups to Baiyuan, his advice to leave the parts in the sun hardened them nicely, making everything much easier to work with! So Baiyuan!

It was pretty fun to rebuild, and will be based on that battlescape. There was some fiddly replacement of some warped hydraulics, but otherwise its cool.

Heres where she stands ready to be prime, everything left off will be painted separately. See, i do learn from my mistakes!!

Its funny how slowed a warhound looks without armour or weapons!!

Cheers for looking,

Vitruvian
