edinburgh castle is bestest castle, sits on a cliff which means you can rappel down(I know how to do this) and zombies can't climb it, plus the tattoo ground is an open killing feild once we relocate the 1 o'clock gun

burn the little wooden bit and replace it with a removable bridge, it's the only way in, exept scaling the cliff

For "Fragmentation propulsion" purposes,how many fps could a device made using Thermite propel a batch of nails?

Frag booby traps set at head level could act as "giant shotguns" in halting zombie advances,if the fragmentation is traveling at enough fps to penetrate zombie skulls and destroy the brains one properly set trap could take down a few dozen zombies (hypothetically) in one go.

One would have to insure the projectiles are traveling fast enough to penetrate the skulls...but I definitely see frag weapons as a useful toll in zombie neutralization.

Yeah I did ponder that, thermite burns at 2500 to 2700 degree's c if memory serves me rightly but It would be possible to make a barrel that can resist that.

IIRC Dragons breath shells did damage the weapon ...so...not sure how well the idea would work,your likely to discover exactly what a Plasma gunner rolling a 1 feels like.

There is a rather interesting titanium-aluminium composite that mimics the composition of mother of pearl that may be able to take that heat if made correctly, though designing the barrel for both heat transfer and structural strength will involve a trade off somewhere... Thermite grenades for now lads.

As a general rule putting a potentially thermobaric superheated explosive in your hands is probably a bad idea, but who knows what needs to be done in a pinch
