A bit, though I’ve mostly been using them as Tallarn rather than anything else. The Renegades list is a bit weird and counterintuitive at the moment.

Fifty wrote:How many points is it?

Just under 8000. Although this has inspired me to build up/rescue a load of the tanks I had lying around in bits so it’ll go up again soon.

On the workbench are:
- 3 x Thunderer Siege Tanks
- 6 x Leman Russ (making a full company)
- 2 x Medusas (making a full squadron)
- 2 x Hydras/Wyverns
- 1 x Manticore/Deathstrike
- 1 x Atlas Recovery Tank

15 tanks to spray up in one big batch!

Has to be Game of Cider for me.

I was in the UK last year, June, and I ended up in Nottingham, randomly, on the release day for Shadow War: Armageddon.

Ok, the workbench is getting full! Just some milliput filling and one more conversion to do and I can get the spray cans out!

Thunderers!

Vindicator guns on the front of standard Leman Russes - the top pieces are actually the base ring from a Quad-Gun that surprisingly fits perfectly in the old Russ turret ring. Had to cast some more once I realised that!

Hydras / Wyverns!

I bought these turret kits ages ago from Ramshackle to use as terrain but I never had. Plus, though I bought them for quad-guns, it turns out they also came with little short barrels too. So, some old Chimera bits, some magnets and a bit of plasticard later and I have some crappy Renegade Hydras/Wyverns.

Leman Russes!

Six more Leman Russ chassis! I've built three more standard turrets but I already have so many turrets I don't need any more. Three of these have been retrofitted with internal magnets to take sponsons and three are just sponsonless. This gives me enough for a 10-tank company.

Medusas!

Two more chassis to give me a full squadron of Medusas. The gun is actually in casting rubber, as it's impossible to buy standard Medusas any more, so I had to remake the parts for the third one. This will give me three Basilisks and three Medusas.

Atlas Recovery Tank

What to do with a spare Leman Russ chassis? Stick a load of gubbins on it and call it a recovery tank!

Great looking army! The colour scheme is quite unique.

This makes me realise that FW really need to show size comparisons on their site. I had no idea the Gorgon was that big, and I saw a Mastodon the other day - it's way bigger than it looks on the site! I'd buy more models if I could see how much resin I'm getting for my money!

Yeah, it’s based on the Marcharius tracks with the whole ‘boat’ section built out from there so it’s pretty huge! This was also the kit from before the re-make, and was one of the worst FW kits I’ve ever assembled - massive gaps that needed filling. I haven’t seen one of the new ones yet - not sure if they’re exactly the same or a whole newer, better set of parts....

With that many tanks available, surely you need to add some kind of design that you can only see when they are deployed next to each other. A chaos star or some joke about someone's mother

After about a month on the workbench, I finally did the tank batch! I've just got a few loaders to build, so no medusas yet. Here's everything else!

First, six additional Leman Russ tanks. I did six hulls and three more standard LRBT turrets, so I now have a full company of ten.

Then, I converted up three Thunderer Siege Tanks from Leman Russ hulls and Vindicator cannon mounts. They've got dozer blades for getting in nice and close.

To help all these guys out, here's an Atlas Recovery Tank, made from various tech gubbins from the bits box.

Moving onto the Chimera-based vehicles, I've been meaning to do this conversion for ages. Two Wyverns/Hydras made using Ramshakle Games' turrets. I just build a basic flatbed out of the chimera kit and some plasticard.

And the final thing for this batch is a Manticore, which can also be a Deathstrike. The Manticore rack is made from various weird flyer sections and Ork Bomms, and because of the downward curve of the missile section the support needs to be quite high, which makes the Deathstrike missile seem REALLY high up, but I doubt I'll be using the Deathsrike that much anyway. I have plant to convert up a little 'crane' option for the magnet mount so I can use it as a Trojan Support Vehicle too.

It's actually the base plate from the quad-guns that come with the Bastion kits. I had two spare because I'd cut off the gun mount for another project ages ago. Turns out they fit exactly in the hole, so I press-folded them and made enough for all the tanks!

KernelTerror wrote:Gorgeous tanks ! That pink paint scheme of yours always looked good, but this are probably some of the models on which it worked the most nicely.

Thanks! It's probably because the tanks offer much more space to do extra weathering. For the tanks, the process is:

1. Spraycan white primer
2. Spraycan pink (Montana 'Pale Lavender' for these)
3. AIRBRUSHING! Airbrush pink/white mix to highlight panels
4. Masking tape off for grey bits & airbrush grey bits dark grey then light grey.
5. Masking tape off for big silver sections and tracks & airbrush all silver.
6. Final bits of airbrushing - masking tape off white areas on missiles, a bit of rusty orange on the dozer blades, a bit of bronze and black on big gun barrels.
7. ACTUALLY PAINT STUFF WITH A BRUSH. Gold bits, silver guns, green lights, brown cloth. That's it.
8. DYES! Modelmates weathering dyes - explode on rust red on tracks an oily colours on pistons and decking.
9. TRANSFERS! All the transfers.
10. PENS! Write on some heretical text and chaos scrawls with brown/orange Sigma Micron Pens.
11. SPONGES! Rip up some sponges (read: KR foam inserts) and sponge weather with brown, then dark grey, concentrating on edges. Then final pass with shiny silver, which allows you to pull back anywhere that accidentally got too-big splodges on.
12. Spraycan gloss varnish. Leave overnight.
13. OIL WASH! Entire tank gets a burnt umber oil wash. Leave around half an hour.
14. Remove Oil Wash! For small minis I use cosmetic tips, but feth that for tanks. Rip up more sponge, very lightly dip in white spirit, and then violently wipe across the model, pulling away the oil wash from any exposed areas. If you go really hard, you get free extra weathering. Oil wash should be left vaguely near the cracks.
15. Spraycan matte varnish.

Only two steps actually involve using a brush, so each step takes about 5 mins per tank, and there's loads of variation in how they look because of all the steps.

On Marines, I kinda have to skip steps 4,5 and 6 and do it by hand, and then completely skip 8, 9 and 10. For Militia, I skip all the above plus 11. So less chance for random variation.

OKAY. So, I broke out the old Noise Marines recently and they’re looking a little dated - could do with a bit more variation and some better basing.

So, I’ve sprayed up a load of old Emperors Children pauldrons to white and swapped them onto the majority of the chaos marines. These should beak up the mucky pink a bit.

I’ve also started building some scenic 32mm bases for them. I had a load of old Scibor 25mm ones which I’ve sawed off and combined with some ballast, rubber crumb and cork to make some ruined rocky bases. I’ll cast these tomorrow.

I cast all those bases and have applied them. Chaos Marines have had a bit of a touch-up including some additional transfers, the odd off-white shoulder pad, a lot of EC symbols and, of course, new bases!
