Agreed, I don't think they could look more lifeless even if lifelessness was the intent.

It's an unusual direction to take Necromunda. I would have thought they would jump at a chance to do new Gangs like Scavvies or Ash Wastes and not Everyone Else: The Gang!

That's still more than the Redemptionists got.

Yeah, I’m curious to see how they work, because that can’t be it. I’m guessing that they’ll effectively be retinue goons for the various mercenaries they’ve released?

That market is gorgeous, exactly the kind of cool, thematic, terrain that can make a game pop. I am going to be raiding my bits box for every loose weapon I have to build some gun racks to go in there.

Ooo, converting up some empire flagellants to be crazy, Life of Brian-esque preachers! So many ideas for this!

Mind you, bland helps if you want to use them to bulk out a cultist unit, or find a new juve model, but they really don't work on their own.

I imagine one goal was to have guys who could, with the right bits and paint could fit into any gang. And no female bodies which is different from what GW has been doing lately. I wonder if there's a generic female gang coming too?

Not much different from every Necromunda release since the Ogryn.

Can you imagine if GW had come out with the Outcast Gang a few years back and said "Here are the new Orlocks!".

The full quote is:

"And after some truly epic reveals over the past few days, we have one final tease for you. Join us later to see if you can figure out what’s creeping around the Eightpoints."

It's the pointless teaser to a teaser they released for Warcry. Nothing Necromunda related.

Impressive. Those new outcasts are such a throwback to the ancient confrontation models. I can see tech hangers, brats, the old bounty hunters. These’ll make great randoms for various scenarios.

I'm honestly surprised the reaction is lukewarm. As a sort of 'generic bunch of generic nobodies to fill in as fodder' I think they're alright by modern GW standards.

More than outcasts...I think these new models are actually underhivers.

This extension seems to push Necromunda more towards a narrative game - which is exactly the point of it, IMHO.

The market terrain is a real good idea for that. That's exactly what was missing for Necromunda : an actual living place to fight for.

We're not too far from having all materials for a Necromunda RPG now.

After a bit of thought I'm getting more disappointed with the Outcasts. I like the sculpts for what they are but they really needed to be 4 out of 10 different ones. Like, where's the women, where's the fat guy, the hunchback and all the other grotesque riff raff we see in the art? Yeah you can split this box and take a couple for your Juves and mercs, but as a whole gang, or even as a civilian backdrop for your tables, they're too bland, too repetitive, and too healthy, 21st century male looking.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The market is excellent of course. Anyone dare wager on the price? From the cover pic I'm guessing it's two copies per box and it's significantly less material than the box-o-mortalis-walls for example, so it'll probably cost a bit more than that.

Some of the heads are female (at least one of them is), but they insist on making the women in this game either have super-spiky punk hair cuts, or be bald. Where's a good set of bangs or a nice ponytail when you want one?

I think people are expecting GW to move forward with Necromunda, when all it has really done since it came out is go over the same group over and over again (seriously, we're at the 4th iteration of Goliath and Escher rules!). This latest release isn't a step forward, it's a step to the side*.

Remember when Newcromunda first came out and they talked up all sorts of things beyond Hive Primus? There was Hive Secondus, the Ash Wastes, The Skull, Hive Mortis, and especially The Eye of Selene. These are all places that they could go, but I think the closest we've come to an expansion outside of Hive Primus is the brief sojourn to Hive Arcos for the Dark Uprising box. So once again we have another expansion for Necromunda and we're... still in Hive Primus, not just with the less characterful, more generic "everybody else" gang.

Now I really like 'em. I'm sure I'll end up with 2-3 boxes and go a'kitbashing (and they'll be wonderous with my leftover Empire Flagellants). And I like the market terrain, even with my Goblin Town redux fears, but even I would like to see them branch outwards to something new.

I like them overall, but as a kit it looks awfully thin, for a line which was already thin in that regard.

But they're nice.

The stalls seem to be something that will cost too much for what it is.

I'm pretty sure the ones with the trenchcoats are female bodies and there are clearly female faces

Not that mixed body sizes are good for bits swapping

So unless they're actively hiding something, there's not even a perceptible increase in the number of weapons on the sprue despite having 1 less body. Is there any way this sprue could be even smaller than the already half-sized Gang sprues?

The GSC Neophyte sprues exist, and are also some of the best minis GW has done lately, they kind of fill the niche that these minis are aimed at and I'd buy those over these any day.

IIRC each gang sprue has 5 bodies and 10 unique weapon loadouts, here we see 4 bodies and 7 unique loadouts...

There's what, seven or eight different heads on there? And it doesn't look like they're tied to specific bodies.

After some recent kits, that's a minor miracle.

An odd release, but will probably turn out to be quite popular, both with actual Necromunda players for use as generic Hive dudes and also the "miniatures agnostic" games market (I can see Stargrave players picking them up).

But yeah... you want something shiny for your Gen Con previews and I was sooooooo expecting Ratskins or Ash Waste Nomads.

The Market stuff is not bad and will make for a nice little corner of the table

Yeah but it seems as if the design brief was for heads with mostly expressionless faces or ridiculous hair.

I'm more interested in the rulebook than the boring-but-workmanlike kit. Lotta space to fill, with both rules and background, for a generic gang. Looks like they might be reprinting some of the WD content in there, since the plague doc rogue doc is on the cover (iirc he was a WD hanger on?)

I'm actually glad that they haven't touched Ratskins yet. I'm increasingly worried what they're going to do to them.

I am really enjoying the books to be honest and hopefully more great art and stories here.

As a gang, whatever. As parts for conversions and making your own hive scum, great. And maybe they should have been label Hive Scum rather than outcasts.

Anyways, welcome future cultists to the 40K universe.

Also, doesn’t this book walk on the toes of Book of Peril?

I can see myself getting a few of those sets. They’d make pretty handy posse members should a gang need running out of town.

I like the outcasts. I don't see them as a gang but random civilians instead and they are perfect for that. More poses would be nice but I can live with them and they look fun to paint.

Market was unexpected but much appreciated.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.
