I'll finally introduce myself.

My name is Joe. I was born in NYC, and lived there until 2002, at which pointed I moved in with my eventual wife, in Iowa (more or less in the middle of the US). I was always kind of an inside kid: I enjoyed making Whitewings, and plastic models, and model rocketry. I really liked model rocketry. That was, of course, until the advent of the affordable personal computer, which then quickly became my main interest. The first PC I ever used significantly was a Commodore 64 (which I wrote some basic programs for, like making a yellow ball bounce around and such) and the first PC I ever owned all-my-own was IBM 486DX. Incidentally, that was also the last computer I ever bought that was already built, not counting my laptop. I then made a career out of it, and currently work a senior support technician at a IT company, while I finish my degree. I'm a little over halfway done with a bachelor's in Computer Information Systems. I've always been into PC gaming, and I loved RTS games in general, starting with Total Annihilation.I really enjoyed carefully building bases, and marching all my little dudes off to conquer.

I first discovered Dawn of War shortly before Dark Crusade was released. I got into it in a big way, and really got into reading the background lore behind the factions on the various wikis and such. When Dark Crusade was released, I was utterly hooked on Necrons. I couldn't imagine a more fascinating faction. I also liked the Orks a great deal.

When Assault on Black Reach was released, I actually pre-ordered it (and lucky me, cause it was $60 when I preordered). This was my first experience with the tabletop game. I really enjoyed actually building the models, and converting and posing them. I didn't like the painting that much, and that hasn't really changed either. I started out with Ultramarines, which I suppose many do, and I rather regret it now, as they simply get pushed so hard. If I could do it over again, I think I would have started with Necrons. Anyway, as I started trying to actually play it, I realized I had a lot of questions - Can a marine carry a two handed sword, and a bolter, and a pistol, really? If Terminators are too slow to make a sweeping advance, can they run?... which is when I discovered Dakka.

I found Dakka to be a delightful community, where no one made me feel stupid even when I asked questions that make me cringe in retrospect ("It can't be Space Hulk, they said it wouldn't be!"). It's helped me grow in skill; from being a horrible painter, to being merely a very poor one. It's also given me tons of ideas that have led a giant mountain of unpainted grey plastic. I really enjoy playing it, though unfortunately there is absolutely no where to play where I live. I largely play with a few of my co-workers whom I have drafted into this, and post the issues that come up every game on Dakka for judgement.

And, here I am.
