So I have two sons, 13 & 12, that constantly use my D&D minis, lego men, army men and a myriad of other plasti-warriors to wage wars with inconsistent and irregular rules, which quickly devolved into very real & quick battles of words & fights amongst themselves.

That's when I was in my local gamestore and noted the Black Reach and Island of Blood boxed sets, and remembered, "Oh yeah, wargames, duh, this is something I can do with them too that I might like after all, and if not, hell, those Orks look just like D&D Orcs, so could use them in our table top games if/when we ever do that again!"

You see, I am in the Army and up til the past year, was frequently away from home, so we really have no established Family games, or Boys & Dad time type stuff as yet...

So anyways, here I am, at the very least $500 poorer and joining this site to continue learning and perhaps paint a bit better some of these little Ork doods I got!

To this point we've acquired:
2 Black Reach Sets
1 Ork Battleforce Set
1 Space Marine box set
1 Space Marine Command Squad
2 Stormboyz packs
1 Loota/Burnas pack
Trukk
2 Battlewagons (so much fun putting together)
3 packs of Ork Boyz
1 pack Ork Nobz
Ghazghkull Thraka

And yeah, , wow...this doens't bring up the paints & brushes, although the wife had many supplies already for painting the pewter minis.

Anyways, we've played a game in the Rookie League, 750 point Newb League at the local store now, and it was a lot of fun, and while my 1st Ork Boyz Brigade/1st Battalion, 2nd Motorized Regiment and 3rd Ork Boyz Brigade/1st Battalion won a mighty victory against my son's Combined Ork Extermination Task Force, .

There was much hilarity when I repeatedly rolled 6s to hit with my Rokkit Boyz, yet rolled 1s immediately after 2 turns in a row, whereupon, the targeted Rhino turned & fired upon my fearless foray by the Trukk boyz of the 2nd Motorized Regiment and rolled a 6 three times in a row, which caused me to have to roll on a chart in the Ork Codex which it seems a 1 results in an exploded Trukk, , of course I maxed out the next roll creating a crater where most of my 12 Orks had just recently disembarked.

My Orks counted that as a victory nonetheless b/c we took out the command squadron at the same time, !

Long enough rambling, hope to learn from you mighty Generals & Artists of this board. I'll eventually get my Orkz painted past just being primed black and show my results so much hilarity may ensue @ my expense,

Lol those kids are really lucky to have a dad cool enough to get all that stuff for them. As for painting tips i can say this green spray paint. as fair as orks would say GrEeNest aN MEENEST, which in our tongue means go get a can of goblin green spray pain. With me and my orks tring to prime black and then paint green to then pain some brown was a huge pain. I simply began to use a green spray paint as a primer and was able to avoid a lot of repainting, This can be picked up at the places were you got the kids paints. Also with orks i can say TRUCKS TRUCKS TRUCKS. buy them get the LOVE THEM. getting thos orks into the fight is the best possible thing to do.

Ok now for some marine action...... I play Chaos so i have NO idea about reg SM. Sorry man.

Actually, I do have some Green Primer Spray Paint, bought for the Warhammer Orcs, , I think I shall do that, couldn't hurt to prime again, b/c I spent the past couple hours and only have 4 Orks skin done, !

Edit to add: Thankz!!!
