They have blood rituals, succumb to blood lust, and the only survivor of the black rage is essentially a Von Carstein.

Honestly, 40k needs a chapters like the Ultramarines from a literary point of view because the contrast they provide helps make Space Wolves, Blood Angels, and other chapters more distinct.

I was obviously exagerating but you cant doubt that you need some sort of stereotypical marines so that the rest can diferentiate from the lot

I don't doubt that. I doubt that they are so widely used as the poster boys as some people like to think. Yes, they are a lot more prominent, but they aren't the only thing GW uses to advertise, that job falls to generic Space Marines of varying color, not always The Ultramarines.

True but without the Ultramarines, Space Wolves wouldnt look so frenzy, Blood Angels wouldnt look so vampiric etc etc
They are the 'good' marines, the ones that others compare to not because they are the best but because the are the typical marines like the good guys you see in a war movie

The answer then is, of course, most definitely!

And why have a lot of the GW stuff gotten more expensive lately?

If Blood angels were, they still werent the perfect wonder boys, and thus far the same.

And why do people keep calling BA Space Vampires? its not that they drink blood, thats their succesor chapter the Blood Drinkers.. (whats in a name..)

Because Edward was their primarch . All kidding aside its the rituals and the general motiff I think.

Plus the fangs... I think they drink blood in their rage though.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

Astorath is pretty much based on a vampire lookswise too. Also given that their successor chapters have names like Flesh Tearers and Blood Drinkers, there's more going on with them than nice hairdos.
The Black Rage is the vampire part coming out in an uncontrolled fashion. The rest of their image though seems to be very clean cut with lots of blond so quite a range.

As for Ultras, why can't GW use random codex chapters to decorate the front of their boxes. That way it shows the new player that they don't have to paint them blue.

Mephiston survived.

Flesh Tearers dont drink blood, only Blood Drinkers. And the Red Thirst is no lust for drinking blood, its a lust for close combat.

No, The Red Thirst is literally a drive to drink the enemies blood. True, there's certain degrees, but fully succumbing to it will make you thirst for blood.

Blood Angels are not emo, and Sanguinius sacrificed himself to save the Imperium

The Red thirst is the one that makes them drink blood, the Black Rage is caused by seeing/hearing/psychically feeling Sanguinius' death scream

Actually, it IS the lust for blood. That is why it is called the Red Thirst. They drink their enemies blood.

The reason people hate Ultramarines is because, no matter how much they want to, no matter how awesome their Ultramarine army could be, they realise they can never actually be Ultramarines.

It's jealousy, fo rell.

I have no idea why someone would hate them. I mean, really. It's just a chapter in the 40K universe, same as all the others. I really don't see the logic in hating them.

True, though in regards the Black Rage I was thinking about the uncontrollable vampires that exist in movie like Daybreaker that then need to be killed because they can't control themselves anymore.

Lematres managed to control the Black Rage, he's fully under it's effects. Mephiston managed to suppress the Red Thirst. The two conditions are different.

If you read the codex it is actually the Black Rage that Mephiston suppressed.

As for why Ultramarines are bad it's because they are featured on every generic SM box therefore the plainest chapter is usually the only one newbies collect.

Ultramarines are a really plain army in a story with lots of complex stories and armies.

As an ingame TT army, they are equally plain in an equally complex setting.

Being plain is kind of their thing though, because they are meant to be a standard others measure themselves against in the Astartes. Just a really plain jane army.

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

The Ultramarines are like the French.

They were awesome once under Napoleon but since then they have had our a$$ handed to us multiple times except when allies pulled us out of the fire. Yet they excude the aura of snobbishness and superiority to the point that people are polite in front of them but they are despised and ridiculed behind their backs.
