He is scratchbuilt from greenstuff, plasticard and many bits. Please critique if possible! I really listen to suggestions and appreciate feedback. This is the first in a long project, I'm documenting it more in my P&M blog but this makes it easy for people to see.

Wow, I'm really impressed...

I think this is the first Obliterator model that doesn't look silly to me...

It's a good combination of organic & metallic parts, really grimdark.

The two things I might have some criticism about are the "exhaust" on the back, which looks just "plain & dull" compared to all the details on every other part of the model, and the legs which look a bit too thin... A bit stockier, maybe, could have made it look more massive & brutal.

Still, most amazing & convincing Obliterator ever. Love it !

Really nice job, I'm planning on making some Oblits using the mighty Ramshackle Gorillagon as a base, and this has definately given me some inspiration.

I agree with Yggdrasil about the exhaust. I also the post is a little bit static, if it were more dynamic I think it would be great.

@Yggdrasil: Thanks! I agree with you the other obliterator models look silly. They are supposed to be a combination of bionic/mechanical, biological and daemon. A "daemon cyborg". What could be better than a daemon cyborg?

Thanks guys! You are right that the exhaust needs work. I think I will try some black pigment mixed with oil paint for a sooty crud, and maybe some white streaks like on the front, that really helped it look detailed. It's already rusty enough.

About the pose I think you are also correct, but hey, I'm going to make 9 of these guys all told and some of them already have more dynamic poses, some are in 'firing mode' which is after all what Obliterators mostly do. The good news is they are all on wire frames (the 6 that are built) and greenstuff is flexible so I can change the pose a bit if I want to. The only thing is I can't really imagine these guys kneeling or jumping so there are not a lot of options. They are 'slow and purposeful' after all. But I could try modelling one that is running or crashing through some debris.

I'm making one really badass flying obliterator daemon prince and his pose is kind of half off the ground with only his toes touching... it really makes a difference. That's why this guy is a test subject so I can get feedback like this. Thanks!

Great job there. Personally not how i envision Oblits, but a great job of it none the less.

Thanks! Yeah it's true, I don't like the stocky, hulking models but if you put them next to each other mine is not that much taller. But the head being on top of the body and not in a crouching position makes it seem so.

I like the look of this model, it looks grimy, dirty, and the red OSL brings a bit of character to the model that you would lose otherwise (with the body being pretty much the same color)

keep it up!

It's got the same kind of menace that the borg had when they were the big baddy in Star Trek. Very well done.

Thank you, that is what I was going for, something like the Borg but more retro-Industrial and more Demonic. I still can't get the face right I think. I wanted it to be a sickly, white necrotic flesh like the Borg has, but menacing as well. The other guys should have better faces once I get it right. I was experimenting with doing a white primer just on the face but next time I'm just going to try primering the whole thing gray. I was trying the whole 'dusting' thing with white primer on the top but I find it really doesn't matter and the whole thing gets painted over anyhow.

You might consider lightening up the shadows on the face if you're going to the pasty look... I think the one's you have in the cracks in his face are so dark that while they look good, they work against the overall effect you're trying to achieve.

I figured the shadows would make the eye darker and more menacing, but I'm definitely going to try that. I also tried to paint the chaos star crudely on his forehead which didn't come out that great in the picture.

I'm just not happy with it. Of course while he supposed to look pastier, he is still part demon and he's angry. So I want to keep that and keep him pasty.

Way cooler than the official model. Very nice indeed. Could perhaps do with a little more colour though - is a little bland.

@CKO: I'd say I invested more time on the scratchbuild than on the painting. I want to say something like 2 hrs total, but without the drying/curing times factored in. I am doing a lot of models and I want an effective system, but I can't be OCD about the details. At the end of doing this army i will probably improve my skillz, and I will probably try to move towards doing less models but being more fiddly with them.

@Nimbosa: Yeah what can I say, I'm like a little kid who makes crafts out of macaroni. I wouldn't recommend eating that though.

@Silver: Well, I am trying to put colour into it. I think the OSL was successful for the red... I might even give it another quick spray with the airbrush. Besides that I oil washed in every color of the rainbow, he's got purples and greens and red and blue. It is subtle but I have difficulty imagining why any part of an obliterator would be bright yellow painted... besides an energy source- and I want to keep that red. Then again I think I may have some ideas for the next round of painting. It may be the pictures I took could use some improving as well. I want colour as long as it doesn't overpower the light/shadow effect, and the grimdark industrial feel.

Thanks for the feedback guys it is really helping!

Part of getting good feedback Meade... is that you've...

a) given us a really good photo of a really cool mini to look at
b) are responsive so we've all been able to carry out a conversation about your mini throughout the day, and
c) are willing to actually accept the critiques and suggestions and at least consider them.

You have no I idea how many times I've seen people ask for C&C and then argue with everyone who tries to make a suggestion. You don't need to agree with everyone or abandon your own ideas for your work... but if you're going to ask for help... you'd better be willing to accept it.

And you are, and you're work is very promising... so it's a win/win all-round!

Off my soap box... now I'll just hang out and wait for the other oblits!

I really like it - it looks almost unrecognisable as something that was originally human (or marine) - it looks chaotic, which is what you want

I think the paint job looks fine, I know models tend to look better in the 'flesh' anyway, even professionally photgraphed ones, and I can tell there's a lot of colour varieties with the washes/glazes etc. It's certainly one of the more/most original concepts I've seen. A job well done - thanks for sharing

Trust me man, I've been there... in art school where giving critique is part of the class, and yes sometimes it can be like pulling teeth, especially when you're the guy that ends up saying something not completely bland and flattering. But I've really taken some things from the feedback here and it will affect what comes out later.

-cheers
