Just wondered if anyone on Dakka had got hold of this rather excellent looking board game yet? And if so, their comments on it?
I absolutely love the style of the miniatures (the super-deformed look of old generation Japanese RPGs), and if the game is even marginally playable then I will put an order in as soon as it goes on sale.
A couple of pics of this rather unique looking game, for those who are interested (miniatures come unpainted)
I absolutely love the druid model, who can transform into a bear

Haven't got a copy but am fairly tempted to buy one on the basis of what has been shown thus far.
Actually, and rather perversely, the biggest barrier for me has been the sheer number of minis included. My to-do list is already mind boggling so the thought of adding more to it does cause me a moment's thought!

If you're old enough to remember plunking hundreds of quarters into the old "Gauntlet" machines you'll love this game!
One quick note, if you decide to start making your own maps, keep things open or it becomes way to easy to route the bad guys. We played using Warhammer Quest boards and it was no challenge at all. Sparkle Burst FTW!

You don't have to pre-order it from Soda Pop to get Candy and Cola. Soda Pop will be putting her on sale for a limited time after the release.

Thats good, of course in that case. Depending on when they do I might end up Candy and Cola chibi before I get the box.

Me too actually. I'm thinking some Citadel foundation paints for really bright and bold colours, and quite extreme highlighting to try and make a more 'cartoony' look. Should be interesting in any case however!

My copy arrived today. This game is so adorable. The map boards are great quality, the cards are plentiful (if a little on the thin side), and it looks like a lot of fun. The only real criticism I have so far is that the miniatures have a lot of small and fiddly pieces and I can't seem to see any sort of instructions anywhere on how to put them together. If you bought this game expecting a board game and found all these parts you'd be a little shocked (something the BoLS review also said about it).

Not a very complimentary initial unboxing of the game on this blog, although apparently a full review of the actual game itself is on the way

What I'm guessing is the most relevant part from Panic's link: But lets be honest here, I brought this game on the back of those super cute chibi miniatures. So do they disappoint?
Sadly yes they do. Not in terms of their design aesthetic, on that score they're veritably full of epic win, they really are nice miniatures once assembled. No it's the assembly that causes the ball ache here. Yep the miniatures do not come pre-assembled. Not a huge problem normally, even though most board games you'll find come ready to rock 'n' roll right out of the box. Their miniatures get plus points for being made out of a sturdy plastic substance suitable for painting on, but that's where the praise stops. Some of the miniatures come cut into as many as 5 or 6 fiddly pieces, each of which has a possibility of warping during the moulding process, and then refusing to fit properly. Putting the miniatures together was an utter bitch for the 3 of us, all of us experienced modellers, poly cement doesn't work on whatever plastic these are made out of so super glue is required. But superglue doesn't appear to like the substance these are made out of and takes an age to dry and form a good bond.
Fitting the Kobolds together might have been a bloody nightmare of epic proportions, what with trying to wedge badly moulded pieces together with brute force and super glue, while not gluing yourself to the miniature was awful, the pieces are too damn small and fiddly. I don't know how there metal miniatures were cut, but these are painful. They don't 'dry clip' together either. The heroes too proved a veritable pain in the arse to fit together and some just refuse to fit together at all, so badly shrunk and warped are some of the pieces, my witches staff refuses to fit and the less said about the dragon the better. But hey, they've mostly been glued together now and they are pretty nifty miniatures that I personally feel are probably just about worth the hassle, but only just. The final grumble though is that because some of the pieces are so warped and bent that there are some big gaps on the miniatures themselves, and I have to say that hand on heart I wasn't ever expecting to have to get my sculpting tools and green stuff out to rectify problems with a board game.
[...]
With Gears though we were playing the game, admittedly badly, 30 minutes after opening the box. With Super Dugeon Explore 2 hours and 30 minutes later we were still waiting for the bloody glue to dry and work out which tail went where.
Suddenly, I am not so excited to receive this product in the mail. It looks like the great experiment of 1/3 RPG, 1/3 wargame, 1/3 boardgame has not been the biggest success.

The minis weren't that bad. I did probably take me around 2 hours to assemble them all, but I think that is fair for the quality they are. They will require some minor gap filling, though. The plastic is very similar to the PP style of plastic - does require super glue.
The cards ARE terrible...nevermind the fact the my cards were in French...some have rounded corners, some have square corners. All are about the thickness of a magazine cover.
With that said though, the game looks to be A BLAST. I'll sleeve the cards, make them a little more durable, and the minis will require some work, but it looks to be worthwhile.

I think it's a bit of a shame though that a game that could have acted as a major draw to new players (and with its unique style it could well do), the game isn't as straightforward as possible to assemble.
I suppose there is nothing to stop seasoned players (as Piperider361 has pointed out) getting the modelling bits out of the way, but still I wonder if newbies will pick up the box from the shelf based on the game's style, their first foray into wargames/board games, and then have their fingers burnt.
