Now I know what you're think, they got a 5th ed codex. They normally get updated every edition. They had Genestealer Cults I believe in 2nd, and codexes in 3rd, 4th and 5th. So hopefullt the trend will continue and they'll put Phil Kelly on us next round. He and Andy Chambers did the 4th ed codex and it wasn't too bad.

I really don't see much of a problem with the current Nid Codex. I feel very much that it is a problem with the current rules that kicks this codex out of contention.

If they manage to fix how strong vehicles are compared to foot troops Nids will be viable. Especially now that we don't have to convert models to make tervigon's and the such.

Agreed. Imagine the hull point rumor is true - suddenly small infantry with furious charge can kill tanks with glancing hits in one good round of cc.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

This would nerf the transport spam and make infantry armies more viable. Given the current trend is Mechanised armies I can really see this happening. For one reason and one reason only, People will need new kits to replace all the transports and make there army list competitive again.

Again going by rumors (since that's all we have 2 weeks prior to ?release/preorder?) casualty removal rules would drop front ranks as the enemy closes in, giving you more time to fire burst cannons and pulse rifles at the hordes of infantry before they reach your lines. Only seeing the full rules and implementations will tell if it's a balanced system or not.

For all my griping over 5th ed, It has been my only experience in 40K (i started in 2009) but i've had great fun with the game. There are things that make me scratch my head (wound allocation because of different wargear. peh). Overall I'm pumped for the change, these last 2-4 weeks before i get a BRB in my hands are going to seem like the longest ever.

Yea, you’re right. Shooty armies are going to get a few benefits out of this edition that they haven't had in a very long time. The relatively small units and spread load out of tau mean they don't really suffer from the wound from the front thing either. I suppose there is hope.

6th edition sounds pretty shooty friendly to me so far. Snapfire, front ranks die, Mech spam seeing a small nerf, random charge lengths (that you get punished for failing since snapfire will most likely be reactionary).

I got into this game in 3rd, and let me tell you it has evolved so much in 4th and 5th that it's practically a new game. Target priority checks, guess weapons, wide changes to assault and movement. I went from super gun lines in 3rd to Fish of Furry spam in 4th. Now I'm sitting here in 5th edition with no special trick and the same army composition I have been running for almost 10 years (Thanks GW for doing almost nothing with Tau in 4th ed codex). And if 6th is going to be another hefty rule change, I welcome it. Even if shooty gets hurt, its something new.

Only things I don't look forward to is learning new rules (and making sure everyone else is playing correctly while at it). All game times are going to be about 30min longer than they should be since we will always be consulting that book.

Dutch GW store managers have presumedly been (or still are) on a trip to the UK (London?) yesterday which (also presumedly) was/is 6th edition related.

Not sure if this is a global thing, for GW store managers everywhere, but I know my local manager went.

If true they should have information about 6th upon return, and things will undoubtedly start to slip out here and there.

This make me think back to how different 3rd was from 2nd and RT..... 3rd was really the first *modern* style rule set.

I really really don't miss hving to use templates to calculate how much movement was used up by my tank pivoting or shuffling through piles of cards to see what psychic abilities I felt like choosing to run...

No matter how much I would love to see CSM in the starter box I would freaking hate to see an all power armour starter... *vomits*

Didn't the limited edition 25th anniversary release of WFB come with a copy of the 1st edition rulebook? Last week there seemed to be couple of copies of Rogue Trader in the Warhamer World display cabinets that didn't look quite the same (print/paper wise) as the copy I used to own... any correlation I wonder?

Some people say that 5th edition, is WAY different from 3rd edition. That is so wrong. If anything 5th edition is really 3.75. I just don't undersand how people can say it's Way different. 4th was just a few tweaks to 3rd and 5th was just a few tweeks from 4th. Game still plays the same.

Little tweaks can have a huge impact. Like being able to assault out of a moving vehicle, or how rapid fire works. Just a few lines diferent in the main rules and your entire army plays differently.

Umm, If I remember correctly you could assault out of a Land Raider in 3rd edition lol

I brought this up a few posts ago. I consider everything from 3rd to present the *modern* rule sets. 2nd and RT are their own animals lol.

I don't miss. ok, roll to hit. ok, now roll 2d6 dmg and add your armor pen modifier. ok now I roll my 3d6 for my terminator armor and compare.... or however that went

Of course you could.

You could assault out of every vehicle in 3rd. It's why the Rhino Rush was so popular.

Yeah, not really the same game. The mechanics of the game haven't change much (same BS/WS/SvT tables, rules for AP, etc.), but the changes in the rules are non-trivial.

lol, my mind gets a little fuzzy that far back All I really remember is that the codexes were in the back of the rule book and out of the box tyranids were unbeatable because of targeting rules

I dont want to shatter hopes and dreams but 6ed is likely not going to be released on the 23rd. Likely it will be an event at GW stores showcasing some of the new changes, probably a few minor giveaways, White Dwarf 390 (confirmed) and the opprotunity to Pre-Order 6ed book, special edition, etc.

No I dont have proof. Given GW's releases they usually shout out "HERE's NEW STUFF...PREORDER NOW!" then the following week we give away our hard earned money for our plasticrack.

Example: New 145 Paints. Announce 2 weeks before release, preorder was 1 week before release...that was a big deal btw.

Example: Any new release showned in White Dwarf and/or GW website at 6pm (ish) the last Friday (ish) of the month.

I remember seeing pics of AOBR for a while before it was released. And im going to need to know whether to buy this when it comes out or grab a stormraven

I don't thik that anyone has discussed when we will see pictures of it yet but the general concensus for the box will be 3 months after 6th drops.

so following current GW advertising tactics I assume we will see pictures of it 11 weeks after launch of 6th

Woohoo, my local GW is opening till midnight on the 22nd, tempted to go down even if it would most probably just be for the white dwarf but seems like it would be packed with 6th edition previews?

Edit: Hmm there is a little event but they also mention: "you will also have the oppurtunity to be the first to order your copy of the new edition and something else very, very, very special......."

I wonder what the special something could be.

Maybe a special FC model? Then maybe spend the next 3 months sending it back till you get a decently cast one? Yeah or possibly it's that your wallet will be light as feather by the morning of the 23rd? Or maybe they will tell you there is a Price Hike on the 1st of July so you are getting a special rate on the box set.

So what's up with this: In the CSM heavy section on the GW site they have a havocs box. I don't remember ever seeing it before. They used a plastic heavy bolter and plastic champion for the picture, but I thought the other weapons were metal only. Those metal models sell for $14 each, yet this squad box of 5 guys is only $33. It also says "will despatch in 2 or 3 weeks".

Is this a new plastic box coming out and they just don't have the picture yet?

Still seems weird with the cost. Also weird to see metal models mixed with plastic.

Don't know if this is a bad sign: they are still selling the CSM codex. It hasn't been removed like the 5th ed BRB.
