About time I made a new log. So it`s back into my bitz box as with my last plog, the Damned Stirlanders (VC) trying to save a few coins and reduce the amount of bitz as much as I can. That means a lot of old minis and a few new ones, kit-bashing, and converting.

With that said, here`s the obligatory work station pic:

I know...it`s a right old mess but when inspiration gets me I start going through boxes and picking out sprues and bitz I want to use. Took me two days just to get off the floor as it was the only place I had space after the first few evenings.

As for obligatory pet-pic, don`t have any at the moment, but I do have kids, three of them, between the age of 2-6 so don`t have the time for pets yet! It`s amazing I have any spare time, lol!

Okey, with that out of the way, let`s get to the matter at hand. I`m going for a Night Lords themed army, mostly because of (in my eyes) the epic Knightmare plog, Re-Inventing Fear, The Knightmare Project. One of the very first plogs that really caught my eye, but I hadn`t thought about for many years until I stumbled on this plog, Night Lords 18th Battle Company. So a new colour (blue) that I`ve never painted before as base colour on an army, and a ton of inspiration from those two plogs (and of course a lot of others plogs but you get the point..).

I won`t be doing any "count-as", at least as far as codexes go, I`ll be using the CSM codex.

First up you have a quite standard, out of the box CSM unit:

I really dig the missile launcher-, icon bearer- and aspiring champ minis. I just did som minor conversions but I wanted them to stay as close to original as possible. Will be some more stuff added, severed heads, skulls, etc.

Here`s my fav conversion so far in the army:

A Chaos Lord, not count-as Abaddon. Scaled up and refined. Still some work to do on the lower legs, but getting there.

Per now I`m in build-mode so I`m struggling along with painting another CSM unit than the one I`ve shown so far. I hate showing my PiPs so don`t expect any of those but plenty of WiPs and hopefully completed ones as well.
Not the most frequent one to update, but I hope that some of you find the time to comment, ask or come with ideas for further conversions and builds. I plan on doing some really cool conversions so we`ll see how that goes.

Until next time!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As I mentioned in the intro post, I`m in build mode. Here`s a few more pics:

I got a ton of the old termies, both SM and CSM. With the scale-up they`re more in line with the new plastic ones as far as size goes, but I do need to fix the waists and legs. I plan on having chains and severed body parts central for that purpose.

Probably heresy to cut into one of these but it`s better to do it and get it back to use than to continue to let i collect dust! Some more detailing and it should be ready for some paint.

As always, comments, ideas and what-not are welcome

I really like how these guys look already. Good call on not using actual termie heads, standard sm or csm termie heads are the lamest heads in 40k by far. You might wanna cut more off of the termie arm where the Talon of Horus connects. Its a bit awkward looking at the moment. or you could always GS it to bulk it up so it transists much better. Other than that, I think everything looks great.

Thanks

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of those heads, and I've got some chaos knights sprues and they've got loads of cool parts. The weapons especially. As for the talon of horus. I do agree, but I'm not done with the detailing and I think I need that length then to fit the parts

Talking of nice sprues. The manticore sprues have some awesome bitz for HQ or the like! That's where I've taken most of the bitz for the lord.

This is going to be so great. I'm waiting to come up with something good to use that claw arm for myself.

Oh yes, the new warriors of chaos are just amazing models in so many ways. I keep buying more and more fantasy kits just for bits. haha I have so many armless, headless zombies from my undead Nurgle CSM.

Looking great so far, excellent conversions! Surfed here from Tortured-Robot's thread, glad I did. Subbed and will be following with interest!

Nice start looks great so far!

I think the powerclaw arm/hand on your "A Chaos Lord, not count-as Abaddon" looks a bit odd- the power claw looks like it should start closer to his elbow.

@Skalk:
Thanks mate, and glad you`re following this plog onwards

@Tortured-Robot:
Thanks mate Ah, the great discussion about the length of his arm I think that the majority now has it at 60% (this plog runs on 3 forums) on shortening the arm so that it fits closer to the elbow.
I yield to popular demand

Been away a few days from work, I planned on finishing the paintjob on the first CSM squad but it`s so cold outside that I can`t varnish them so I didn`t bother..instead I started building some more, this is the result so far:

Yupp, a raptor Now the 40mm base is a must as the rule of cool* says so! So this is just a regular trooper. This squad will open up plenty of fun conversions and really be a focal point as far as the Night Lords part goes.

As always, comments are more than welcome!

*Rule of cool is simply that instead of taking what is gaming-wise you take what you like simply because it looks good

love the base haha nice use of the stormboy rocketpack. I feel like the raptors in the future should have more of a dynamic pose. oh you should buy some night lord upgrade packs. They'd just make these raptors so much more awesome.

Cheers I have some good ideas that needs chopping up of legs to get more predatory poses. I also think that I want one or two in "take-off" mode with lots of smoke and fire.

I play VC as well so I think some graveguard sprues or something like that would come in handy

I think the one Raptor in that pose works, it's as if he's been sitting there for a while, no hurry to take off, just observing what's out there and planning his next move. That could be a diorama piece.

Heh, that was a more keen observation than I did myself

I`m glad you see it as a diorama as I want my raptor unit to be a focal point in my force.

On another note, albeit not with pics yet I`m well into painting the CSM unit shown in the first post. More or less halfway. It picked up speed when I finally nailed how I wanted to paint them. I`m away this week due to work but the coming weekend I hope to finish the unit and their rhino.

Ah...finally! This just took forever and ever but now I can present the first half of Claw Noctis:

Not the best pic but it`s pitch dark here this time of year.

Nothing fancy but I`m well pleased. As far as my army goes I see this squad/claw as "truebloods". So no mutations or anything here! I also feel that the Aspiring Champ, the vintage Ragnar Blackmane fig came into his own as a Night Lord
The bases I compromised on. I like the more grey and industrial look for 40K but seeing as most boards are green grass I went for a trench/wet mud look with some clusters of bushes. I think it looks quite nice and it also allows me to not be that neat around the feet of the minis when I paint it

C&C is more than welcome!

Looking good really liking the Raptor. The squads nice grim and brooding like Night Lord should be.

Got some more pics this evening. First off is the first model I made when I started with the new army, but then it was Chaos Daemons:

He`s suppposed to be on a chariot of Tzeentch, and that little critter holding the book is the familiar. Now for CSM I can`t have a chariot, so the best I can do is daemonic steed of Tzeentch. Cool mini though. I like the arcane tech feel of the rocket-board!

Now for more arcane tech, here`s my take on some obliterators:

In my opening post I mentioned Dan the Daemons plog. He made some Night Lords obliterators as stealthy weapon teams instead of the hulking monstrosities. Night Lords still according to fluff has stabile genes with little to no mutations. Mine aren`t as high tech as his, mine are arcane tech. You`ll see the details better when I paint them up!

This next mini I made before I landed on Night Lords:

It`s a heavy duty salvage job. I`ve had the dread for ages but not with all of the bits so I made a daemonic possesed version. Now this goes against what I mentioned on the oblits, but I got a cunning plan for integrating mutated stuff in this army without stepping on established fluff. I`ve armed it with to ccw`s.

Finally for now, the last 5 CSMs for Claw Noctis:

Better pics of the entire claw will be taken as soon as the rhino is dry and can be photographed.

As always, c&c is welcome.

Finally got the rhino ready so I could take a proper pic of claw Noctis:

I`m very pleased with the end result. I`ve found a way of painting this army that won`t kill motivation and which looks good enough for me as far as table top goes. I know that the missile launcher and the flamer probably isn`t the hottest kit I could use but hey, rule of cool right

Up next will be the finished obliterator teams and hopefully some WiPs of the berzerker claw.
