Out of the Space marine, Orks, Dark eldar battleforces which do you think is the best investment for the price.
Which offers the best models and value over buying seperatly? I ask because im planing on buying one of the battleforces to help me start my new army.

Tau/Guard are the only ones that give you a legal army I believe.

My Armies:
5,500pts
2,700pts
2,000pts

I dont need the battleforce to fill out as a legal army its more for filling out a force i suppose. I'll be getting a leader, codex and afew extra troops and such at the same time.
Im more looking to which battleforce adds the most to an army.

I go with the Army you want to play most. But Orks are the least useful of the ones you listed.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.

I think ork is the worst as it doesn't give you much points, the marine one gives you a good 450 plus and i dont like dark eldar

Space Marines is the best if you buy two, dark eldar is lack luster unless you get a lot, and orks is just bad

I'd have to say the Tau, for all the units you get its a steal...just a shame the Tau are kinda dated, so it might not be the best choice.

I believe the BA one is supposed to be bad. Space Wolves are pretty good, I believe (if you want non-codex standard SM). I've heard the Ork one is weak, but SM are GWs poster children, so they're probably your best bet.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I've been told that the DE battleforce is actually really good, and that the other 2 (iirc) kinda suck.

I filled out my SW with a box set and I use every unit in it to this day. Scouts are elite choices so they can help fill everything out quite nicely. I was looking at the DE box the other day though, it comes with quite a few units but I'm not sure of DE point value

Out of the ones you mentioned, Dark eldar. Or Space Marines if your talking points value. But the last thing I want to do is encourage the starting of another Marine army. Chaos Daemons gives you 45 models and Tyranids about the same. Tau is about 35 and a stealth-fish transport or whatever they're called. I reckon Chaos Daemons is the best value. + They're super cool.

I think out of those 3, the space marine force gives the best deal, but i could be wrong though i havent looked at the Dark Eldar one to much. But Space Marines are a really good starter army and you don't have to spend as much money to get a playable force.

But you might have trouble finding a game against people because so many people play Space Marines. Of course that varies by location

For dark eldar you need additional transport(s)

Go for the army you want to play not what is the cheapest

The Dark Eldar battleforce is really helpful if you buy 2 Venoms as well. That plus a Haemonculus gives you a fairly decent 6-700 point list.

The Ork battleforce is a mess, but I don't really know about the SM one.

The tau battleforce is the best deal of the lot, last I did the math it contained $160 USD worth of models.

I think that's a very short sighted approach.

IMHO, you should ask "What army would I have the most fun painting, modeling, and/or playing?"

Sure, you might find which one gets you the most points for your money asking it this way. But if you get bored or frustrated with the army in 6 months because it doesn't match your playstyle, what then?

You save about $3 over buying the models seperatly. its a horrible value, all the other boxes save you at least $30

However, it doesn't have any useless models

The SW one is nice because you can either assemble Blood Claws OR Grey Hunters as you desire.

the BA one is ok, but not ideal. The Tac squad is kinda out of place(although you should have enough extra CCWs and pistols from the DC and actual assault marines to make them Assault Marines without their packs)

Its ok if you are making a hybrid/mech BA list, not great for DoA though. A proper BA battleforce would be 2 squads of Assault Marines, of course in a perfect world all Battleforces would be a complete legal army.

You do with the orks as well, unless I'm missing something:

GW list prices

Battleforce: $100

Orc Boyz x10 $29
Orc Boyx x10 $29
Warbikes x3 $41.25
Orc Trukk x1 $33

Total: $132.25
Savings: $32.25

The SM one is a pretty good buy, the best one up there I think.
The (craftworld) Eldar one is kind of suckish.

In terms of pure value for cost, Space Marines is the outright best;
Tac squad = 44.75
Combat squad = 30.00
Scouts = 30.00
Rhino = 39.50
Assault squad = 39.50
Total cost buying seperately = 183.75

Battleforce = 130.00, for a total savings of 53.75!

If you're looking for the outright, "what battleforce offers the most savings out of all of 'em?" Then the answer there is simple; Chaos Daemons - it's 2 armies for the cost of 1 as you can easily use the round bases and then rank them up on the modular trays and play fantasy as well!
