I just found a Kickstarter campaign (I'm not affiliated with the company at all, just stumbled upon it) for a promising looking terrain company doing 40k-inspired laser cut terrain and accessories. Here's the kickstarter, already reached its funding minimum.

Here's the company website.

And here are some pretty pictures of products!

Gothic Dystopian Terrain

Medieval Fantasy Terrain

Accessories/Objective Markers

And a really nice display board:

Those gothic ruins are hot! I would love to see how those paint up. If they are cheap I would consider buying a bunch of those for personal use as they basically laser cut stuff that you could do yourself but is tedious and hard to do.

The brick layer behind the wall layer is simple and really smart and has what most of the other lasercut stuff is missing.

Yeah... they have a little bit more "3D" to them than the usual MDF wares.

I saw these the other day on TGN.. they look great.. I like how they're using 2 layers of wood to give it more depth.

Ever since I started doing all this wild west stuff I've been getting into the laser cut wood terrain thing and I really like it a lot. Lots of really great kits out there for all different genres. These have lots of great detail though, better than most.

They look good however I would really like to see some alternatives to gothic. We already have kits from GW and the Pegasus.

Hey guys, just to be clear, I'm not affiliated with the company in any way, I just found the Kickstarter and thought I'd share, as there's definitely some pretty neat stuff being offered. I emailed the owner letting him know about the thread here, so maybe he'll show up, but maybe not.

Hey guys,

I have about a dozen of his movement trays for my Bretonnian army. One of the movement trays has a laser etched Fleur-de-Lis in the center of it. I can take a snapshot of it later if anyone is interested.

these look awesome

my only concern are the "burned" details are to be painted over so its not clear what will remain afterwards.

I've seen quite a bit of laser cut terrain recently and it looks pretty sweet, but I notice that all the pictures never ever seem to show painted versions.

Is this because the terrain is designed to be displayed unpainted? Because it looks kind of cool that way, but not really quite 'right'.

And I wonder if a lot of the detail just cut straight into a flat wall, like patterns for example, still shows up when it does get painted? Or is that the reason they don't show it painted, because you can no longer really see all the meticulous patterns burned in?

Does anyone know of any laser-cut terrain pictures of painted stuff? For example, I'd love to see those rulns in this thread painted to see what that looks like.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/101466427/tectonic-craft-studios-new-line-of-war-games-terra/posts

Typical reason you don't see it painted up is A) because it looks cool and sells seeing it unpainted and B) Most of the companies doing these are small upstarts so they don't want to pay for a professional painter or show of the product in their possibly subpar skills.

This x1000

I really love the designs on most of the laser cut terrain and bits, but I just feel like if I were to paint it I would fill in all of the details. Also the material of these seems to be particle board. Some wet particle board is a nightmare. It can swell if it gets damp or even fall apart. I personaly will stick to 3d resin or plastic kits or making my own 3d terrian out of foam and junk unless someone can show me that laser cut terrain can be worth the money. :p My biggest fear of laser cut terrain, however, is the lack of 3d texture. It feels like those Wooden kits that you made a crappy wooden dinosaur skeleton out of.
haha, I hope someone remembers what I'm talking about with the wooden models.

I find that they paint well unprimed, with washes. That way you don't obscure any of the black lining detail, but still get some colors on it. And takes little effort and zero skill.

Yeah once Warmills business slows down I'm going to test out airbrushing semi-transparent washes overtop of the board to shade it and keep the detail.

However on my current "cardboard" ish terrain, 2 coats of non-model varnish protects from from everything short of whipping a 2lb tape measure at them.
