I resently bought a couple 12mm cubes of chessex dice and while they are nice I'm looking for something with a little more wait to them. My friend has some nice 16mm and he pointed me to blue table painting battle reports after a descusion on how much I enjoyed mini wargamings bat reps. I happened to notice the dice they seemed to be using were quit large and made a satisfying thud when they hit the table. I've been trying to find out what size they are using. The only answer I've been able to find seems to be 20mm. I'm not sure if this is acurate or not since I can't seem to locate 20mm d6 even when I google it. Now I could be doing it wrong or they could have just stopes producing that size. If anyone knows it would be most helpful.

What size of dice do you like to use? Do you like something heavy or light when rolling or dice?

In the dark recesses of your mind...

I have dice of all kinds of different sizes in my dice bag. Generally I use the 12mm chessex style dice, but really you should roll whatever feels comfortable or lucky to you at the moment.

Dice that large sound like casino dice. You can get "drilled and filled" ones for fairly cheap, or mint pairs for entirely too much money. I use 12mm or 16mm dice generally, which I get off Dicepool or eBay sellers.

I cringe whenever an opponent uses huge dice or brass/metal dice. A "satisfying thunk" to one is another's "oops there's a dent in the terrain".

I prefer 16mm dice for my 40k gaming (easier to read from across the table).
My other dice are the standard size for polyhedrals.

I use only Chessex 12mm dice. They may roll badly but at least they are consistently bad.

Iv got a heap of chessex 12mm dice. They do the job, I generally have a colour for each army.

The blue ones I use for my Tzeentch daemons seem to roll quite a few 4's, my magic number lol.

Would love to get some 12mm metal dice but they are stupidly expensive/hard to aquire.

I remember seeing a thread on here a while ago about that dice master fellow and how many dice produced are polished too much, thus making them uneven. Checked my chessex after that and they are all kinds of funky shapes lol.

Lots of those small dice but I have two sets of large white dice, as my eyes see those much more easily.

If someone is looking for a 'satisfying thud' when the dice hit the table, they're welcome to bring their own, because they're not going to get to roll on mine.

I have a big collection of 6mm dice with printed numbers on them that work very well for when I need to pick up and roll big handfulls, although with the standard accumulation of 12mm that comes from playing GW for a number of years, and a few 16mm that have just appeared from who knows where.

May i suggest "How to roll citadel dice" for everyone?
Its a great book, lots of statistics.
But in all seriousness i use a simple thing of dice from the game store. They roll well enough when i sacrifice my winning opponents and bathe my dice in their souls.
But yeah, this game is random accurances. Dice dont matter.

I dont have a problem with the way my dice roll. I'm just looking for a little bit larger really. I can't tell what size the blue table painting guys use.

Plus casino dice aren't really what I'm looking for. I'm not going spend a ton of money on dice like those. I've talked with people who use them and I'm told the corners and edges were down petty fast so you have to keep replacing them.

as far as the casino dice go you can find them priced any where from about $6 on up. but if you know where to look you can get about 100 casino dice for around $12-$15. however i use both 12mm and 16mm chessex dice and am very comfortable with them but being a dice collector im always on the look out for something with a more novelty feel to them. would like a decent amount of metal dice from a game called IRONDIE but would be afraid the game would turn into a miniatures demolition derby.

They are actually something like 18% more likely to roll ones than square-edged dice.

On the 12mm GW dice,of which I have 48 (two cubes, not counting the fantasy artillery die and the scatter die) I roll consistently low. For example recently I had to roll for 7 hits, I rolled 5 ones, a two, and a four. After that I bought 12 18mm Chessex dice, and seem to be rolling average. Who knows...

Pretty certain it's 16mm dice. I own a couple of sets that look quite like the teal "glass" dice with white pegs that Shawn use, and mine are 16mm.

Heavy dice and models don't always mix and require caution.

If you break my models with your uber dice I shall not be amused.

ANd I see it all the time (or used to when I still played in game stores) Not always intentionally, but never the less, especially at game stores and events in which space can be at a premium during peak times.

I have seen models tipped and even broken by spastic rollers...

I once met a guy with metal dice... Seriously?!?
