I am currently toying around with a new Word Bearers list and I am looking for suggestions on a good HQ, currently I own a Demon Prince, Huron Blackheart, Chaos Lord, which one of these would be a good choice to lead my army and what should I give them?

First off, this should be either in list discussion or tactics.

Second, there are new rules coming out in less than a week.

Third, Chaos is the next book to be redone.

Any more questions?

We dont know that chaos is really next, at least i dont, but if you want to break away fromt the norm mess around with you lords wargear they can be really fun because from my experiance my dp's uness they're from the daemons book get killed too easily.

A Daemon Prince with wings and any mark but Khorne is pretty solid. Lords are kind of meh, but can still throw down in close combat. I like to run my Lord in Terminator armor with a combi melta and a daemon weapon. Undivided Lords get to swing at S5 with them!

I like to run a lord with wings, MoK, daemon weapon and combi-melta. It's lots of fun, even if not terribly effective all the time.

For a Word Bearers army though, it stands to reason that such a fanatical legion would likely be led by a Daemon Prince, and possibly a Greater Daemon. Unfortunately under the current codex, your word bearers list is going to be lacking in both fluff and effectiveness due to our lack of named daemons.

For Word Bearers a strength 5 demon weapon is pretty cool along side a combi melta, a good pair for a lord.

Yea, they are next.

And as of next week, you'll be able to take a Prince from Codex: Daemons to go alongside your Word Bearers.

Woah, I've been gone a million years. Omegus, explain this wizardry. If there's a new codex, you wouldn't say "a Prince from Codex: Daemons," so what has changed?

6th edition is out next week and one of the new rules allows you to take allies from another codex in your army so chaos marines will be able to field a detachment of daemons from codex: daemons

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Chaos HQ pretty much starts and ends with demon princes. The other choices have much less impact on the battlefield. The only other HQ even worth considering is a lash sorcerer.

Nurgle Daemon Prince with Winds Of Chaos and Wings, and pretty beast.Jumps up with a wounds on a 4+ at AP 2 flamer and then charges with 5 S 6 power weapon attacks at WS 7 so hitting generally on a 3+ and getting hit on generally 4+ . And at T 6 those few hits will not often wound. He has a 3+ armour and 5+ invulnerable save making hit a great HQ and only for 180 points so a maybe a tad expensive for low point games.

Or lash prince, they are extremely useful.

Chaos Lord is very versatile so you may want to experiment with different wargear load outs. I particularly like:

Power armour lord: Mark Of Khorne, Juggernaut of Khorne, pair of lightning claws and if you want a combi-melta so he can pop a transport and and charge the guys that jump out.
WS 6 so hitting most things on a 3+, a base of 3 attacks +1 for his bolt pistol OR pair of lightning claws and +1 for Mark of Khorne, +1 for the Juggernaut and +1 for charging leaves you with 7 attacks on the charge and one shot from his bolt pistol or a melta shot at a tank. He is base strength 5 from the juggernaut and has re-rolls to wound. He has a 3+ armour and 5+ invulnerable save making hit a great HQ and only for 160 or 170 with combi-melta. I like to run this guy with plague marines so they provide extra survivability because of their T 5 and FNP.

Terminator armour lord: Mark Of Khorne, pair of lightning claws.
WS 6 so hitting most things on a 3+, a base of 3 attacks +1 for pair of lightning claws and +1 for Mark of Khorne and +1 for charging leaves you with 6 attacks on the charge and two shots from his twin-linked bolter. He may not be S 5 but with re-rolls to wound he will still have a high wound rate.He has a 2+ armour and 5+ invulnerable save making hit a great HQ and only for 140.

With the changes to Daemon Princes, I am thinking trying out a generic Terminator lord with Daemon weapon. Thing is depending on what the model is armed with(mine has an axe for it's Daemon), I will be going last with +1 Stength, so the undevided Daemon weapon is useless unless you want a sword or Maul. Terminators can be more survivable than a Daemon prince because of the 2+ since it shares the invul of a non Tzeentch DP, and has better armor. Plus the rules for MC and challenges are a bit sketchy and since My Lord would excel in challenges against most Inf characters and unit Champions, that seems a better choice for me. I may swap the Axe for a sword though.

Well besides all the Kids not getting there way… it seems like a good codex… as a matter of fact it’s the best codex for 6th edition so far. (we’ll see who… you know?)

Or lash prince, they are extremely useful.

In fact, the lash can reposition the affected unit such that the models in front are rearranged. This can make a huge difference in the shooting phase.
