I am just wondering If using chaos cultist models for a traitor guard (imperial guard codex) army is acceptable in, casual play?, tournament play?

Note the following things

-All models would be wysiwyg with all special/ heavy weapons
-No allies, so you could not confuse the cultists with any other unit
-clearly indicated in the list the models I am using are cultist models
-Before all games tell my opponents da' whole shabang

Casual play would likely be no problem; tournament play, eh, certain ones might be trouble. You'd have to clear it on a case by case basis with the Tournament Organizers.

No problem at all. Will be 100% legal. Both in causal and tournament play.

I doubt it would be a problem as long as they are all wysiwyg.

Cultists and guardsmen literally have the same stats down the board, except for armor save (a whopping difference of +6 vs +5)

In an army where you literally have no Chaos space marines on the table whatsoever, and there are lots of tanks, and there are cultists packing heavy weapons and special weapons, i think most people wouldn't have a hard time figuring out what they're supposed to be.

Unless you come up against some prick I don't see why there would be a problem.

Even for tournies you should be fine, there roughly the same height and width, and like they all said above if they are wysiwyg then you should be golden.

autoguns = lasguns

Champion = sarge

cultists= regular guardsmen

They're very VERY similar, which makes sense, because Guardsmen are regular humans loyal to the emperor. Cultists are regular humans loyal to chaos. Doesn't change how they shoot or the fact that they all have crappy small arms

As people have said, perfectly acceptable, but what models are you going to use?
The cultists from DV are all snap fit and yet get a whole 9 different sculpts (including the 4 which are armed with melee weapons).

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Nice, Sounds like a fun time. Always used to bump into a guy with an Orky IG Army. Everything was WYSIWYG with Orks instead of Guardsment. Lasguns, flamers, vendettas, manticores, everything.

I agree. Fine for casual, fine for tournament. The only tiny thing you may want for tournaments is either to get some lasguns chopped in there, or to fabricate some lasgun-looking ends for the autoguns.

People have been running kitbashed traitor guard for years, and I know someone who took his chaos guard army to adepticon and wasnt' kicked out for lack of wysiwyg. So long as they look like human models and have the right (or approximately the right, in the case of lasguns) weapons, you should be fine.

Not even "similar size" is necessary, pretty much anything would be similar size. Check out the Grot Guard.

I'd like it if some of the Cultists where modified to have Las-Guns, Heavy Weapon teams where mounted on specific bases but otherwise it's fine.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

Earlier versions of the Guard Codex made mention of autoguns that did the exact same thing as lasguns, which the autoguns in the Chaos book are anyway. I don't see much confusion arising over this.

In so much as you're using a cultist model as a special character. That I would not be very cool with unless you let me know.

I am doing mine as an allied detachment for chaos. All the special and heavy weapons will be legit and about half of the autoguns will be swapped out for lasguns.

Where I am in trouble is I will also be fielding a unit of cultists with CCW and Pistol. The unit will have a chaos HQ in it most of the time and it definitly has different wargear from the IG. I am thinking of also painting the base a slightly different color/ including unique rubble to let my opponent know that they are cultists not IG. All that means though is that the champion has to challenge, cant make use of orders, and has a 6+ instead of a 5+.

now that could be a problem.

I would paint them as differently as possible from the IG models, and would do everything possible to distinguish them. That's the kind of thing that CAN confuse people.
