I have seen a lot of movies in my day. I actually enjoy watching crappy movies, especially Peplum and bad Sword-and-Sorcery flicks. Therefore, I have a pretty high tolerance for crap, and indeed can even really enjoy crap. Typically, a movie cna never put me to sleep, no matter how tired I am; because I want to see what happens next.

However, there are a few rare exceptions of cinematic ineptitude that have even caused me to journey off into the realm of the sandman. I can actually count the number of times this has happened to me on a single hand. They are:

Titanic I fell asleep when the ship was sinking. In fairness, it was the second time I had been dragged to this flick by female friends. Not even looking forward to the guy bouncing off the propeller could keep me awake for a second viewing. Therefore, I'm not sure this should really count, since it was a repeated viewing that I really wasn't thrilled to see again anyway.

Nacho Libre- Jack Black stars in this Theatre of the Absurd movie about a priest who becomes a luchadore to save a small mexican town. This movie should have been epic. Instead, I fell asleep about half-way in. I guess I wasn;t the target audience for Jack Black's mugging sort of humor.

The Specialist- Sly Stallone and Sharon Stone are in this flick. Sly is a bomb maker who is being set-up by a bad guy, and must use all his wits and skills to survive. Typically, this is right up my alley. I even went and saw this in the theatre when it first came out. I fell asleep in the theatre. All I remembe ris an explosive tea-cup. I sort of want to track this movie down and watch it again....but I can't shake the feeling that I have better things to do with my time.

Starcrash- A Star Wars rip-off made in Italy. Stars Caroline Munro and Marjoe Gartner, which is usually enough to keep me interested. However, this flick is like Ny-quil without the cold reflief benefits. It has put me to sleep not once.... but twice! I have a feeling if I watched it again; it would put me to sleep everytime I sat down to watch it. I'm not sure if it is the loving long shots of bad special effects, cliched and boring dialogue, non-acting acting, or the lack of any intersting story or characters; but something about this flick just causes me to lose consciousness. Perhaps it is the bodies natural defense mechanism to this crap?

So, how about you, what are some movies that have put you to sleep over the years?

I don't even KNOW anymore.

Oddly enough, I got sleepy about halfway through The Bourne Legacy. Just wasn't doing it for me.

Wow, I just had to make my first ever off topic post here and tell you this was the most entertaining movie I saw all year. And I watched a lot of movies this year.

For example, the dungeon siege movie with jason statham. That one really sucked.

Dances With Wolves
I can't believe I saw the whole thing, it was like an endless native american sympathizing vomitfest. I used to think costner was cool, man.

Most black and white films, I need my movie experience in glorious extra-color.

This is not to say that I dislike black and white films, they're just so soothing to watch.

That being said, I have only fallen asleep in a theatre twice, and it was for the second and third Matrix films. The second film I just found boring, (I woke up for the high way action scene, and that was it). And the third Matrix film caught me falling asleep throughout the film, and I missed pieces of the final fight scene. To be fair to that film though I had been up for 24 hours (and this was when I was still not really able to do much to stay awake).

Though on the other hand, I was under similar conditions for the third LoTR film and I didn't fall asleep at all during that.

This one got me too. Somewhere in the twenty minute sequence of taking a shuttle over to the Enterprise.

2001 is also boring as hell.

I don't care how many awards it won.

LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring. I don't fall asleep during a movie very often, but this one actually put me to sleep in theaters.

I like it now though, but at the time I didn't know anything about the story. I'd say it's a pretty damn boring movie if you aren't familiar with the LOTR beforehand.

I fell asleep during "The Grey", but that was more from sheer exhaustion due to family...complications that left me taking care of a family member's house, making multiple hour long trips to the hospital the family member was at, while working and maintaining my own life. I did wake up before the first dude became dog-chow though.

Other than that, I'm able to fall asleep during any movie I've seen already.

The remake of Total Recall. I fell asleep during about the middle 50% of it, and so had no idea what the significance of the end was, if any. And this is from someone who stayed awake through Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I also cannot sit through David Lynche's Dune. That damned whispered voice over does it to me every time.

I assume you mean the remake? The remake sucked harder than anything I've ever seen.

I'm pretty sure anything by Adam Sandler, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer would be worse.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Horton Hears a Who - Took my daughter to see this after having been awake for around 36hours - I had a great sleep, but she said I snored loudly at times... I gotta admit I struggle with the film now, I reckon my brain has made an association between this film and sleep now as it is quite enjoyable, the little I've seen of it anyways...

Little Nicky? Waterboy? Happy Gilmore? Billy Madison? These were awesome. Now "Don't mess with the Zohan" was one of the biggest turds in Hollywood. I don't even know who the other two guys are, and as such, they probably don't matter at all.

Actually that's a bit of an unfair comparison as a gakky comedy is a very different experience to a gakky action movie.

My friend roped me into going to see the first LOTR movie. I fell asleep about a third in.

I know a lot of people really love that franchise, but good lord is it plodding. Also, did they really need to be, like, 19 hours each?
